For our southern friends.

muleman RIP

Gone But Not Forgotten
Just so you know what winter looks like. We were actually warmer this morning (13) than most days got last week. Looks like a mess rolling in tonight with a few inches of snow capped off with freezing rain tomorrow. These critters were out in the front yard eating up before the storm.

These fellas were trying to impress the ladies....Didn't have much luck..Hate it when it rains in January, it'll just create a frozen mess when the arctic air returns...and it will.

We got about 2" of snow followed by freezing rain on everything. It blew from the south and coated all the big windows as well as my woodpile. I had to reach back in with the rake to get some dry stuff this morning. The turkeys made a run at the feeder early when I was putting wood in but this pic shows what we saw! Supposed to stay above freezing tonight and 48 tomorrow. 53 on Wednesday and then right back to cold and snow showers.

Y'all do us southerners a favor & keep that cold up there. It's been warm enough here the grass is growing and trees are blooming. A freeze now would really be bad on the citrus trees, the rest of this years and next years citrus crop. Not to mention keeping me from cutting hay again in about another 4-6 weeks if the weather stays like it's been the last several weeks.

Well Muleman I feel bad you, Mark, Kanook, CP , Doc, Zoom and whoever I left out up there are still under the gun with that freezing weather. Urednecku is right, keep that stuff up there please... I had on short sleeves today. Raised the cab on the old Cat and finished cleaning it up. It was in the upper 70's today -suppose to turn cold later though. Storm coming through tonight with colder temps. The RTV is a joy to drive in weather like today and I did a bit of that too... Ya'll hang in there,Spring is coming.... bordercollie

We had a cold front blow in today and with the wind chill it was -45 (That's damn cold if you speak c or f). I'm moving to Mississippi so make some room for my RTV and Skid Steer Bordercollie!

Looks like that Cat is eating a mouse thats wearing boots and jeans!

Well CP, I can sure understand that. That is COLD! A year or so ago, we had a bus of Canadian farmer/wives come by for a tour of the farm. I have to say they were the nicest people I ever met. We were hugging each other by when it was time to go.. A culture much like ours. Awesome folks.. After touring the farm operation, we sat on the back porch and ate treats. :) :)

BC - why did the Canadian's stop by your farm? That's a heck of a drive to admire your cattle, dogs and RTV.

Rain now, snow tonight. Temps are expected to drop 35 degrees in the next 10-12 hours.

yea buddy all that white stuff looks way to cold for me.i went do a job for a few days at the shop and i brought my old citrus heater those guys was wondering what the heck that thing was. they said they never seen nuthing like it as soon as i filled it up with deisel and fired that baby up they soon fell in love with it .they wanted to know where they could buy one but i told them they can't because the epa shut them down from selling anymore of them.i have atleast 5 guys who want to buy one if i make them mine is getting old an i need to make me another one before this one falls apart it's only 40 years old. you got a very nice house BC i would love to live on a farm.you know it's never to late to adopt.lol

Thanks Peanut, but it's not mine. I just live and work here with my sis and her family. It was built in 1842 so that is why it is off the ground- to avoid the floods of long ago... That back porch is part of the addition .

Zoom,The Canadians were on a tour of southern farms and we were one of many . Eh.. :) It is turning cold again today and had to bring out the coat and gloves... bordercollie

Must be cool just to be around a place that old.you ever find old stuff out in the fields?its kinda gettin col down here too the wind is blowin crazy right now an the temos are steady droppin gonna have to fire up my heaters in the shop tomorrow for sure.

We have had 2 days of 50 degree temps and tonight it is dropping into the 20's and will stay there for daytime highs till the middle of next week. Overnight lows back to single digits with snow showers every day off the lakes. Windy with gusts to 55 mph and raining like mad. We have a wind warning and a flood warning till late tomorrow. The top 3 inches in the yard is a mushy mess that leaves puddles in your footprints. The only snow left is from plowing or where it drifted bad. Hope it freezes before we get more snow. I already peeled up some sod plowing a path to the greenhouses a few weeks back. But you folks down south get them tornadoes too often for me. Tommy gets the hurricanes so I will take the cold and snow. The critters up here are friendlier as well.

Bordercollie, it looks like you are fishing for a wrench in the bottom of that thing. Wish I was small enough to crawl in there like that. I must say my Gehl is not too bad to work on with the cab up and the bottom pans off. I do that and then hit it with the pressure washer and wait a day till it dries off. Looks like you have the power attach on that machine as well. Handy if you switch buckets and attachments a lot.

You are very close to right Muleman. It was 2 nuts that fell in. I shop vacuumed the cow feed out- amazing how much got in there- and then I did pressure wash. Then I got the long reach air nozzle and gave it a blow dry especially the electrical plugs and connections. It has the a/c compressor under there too... This Cat has one only bottom pan though. I do love the power attach!! The new one has it too- It makes me a lazy one though. :) I get the cab up by myself using leverage and then let the struts work after it is up a bit., to get it down I put a piece of something behind the safety catch to hold it out and yank a bit on it or else hook my boot on the step and pull. Where there is a will there is a way...usually. ;)
Peanut, To answer your question, This place has been gone over by traspassers looking for stuff before the house was fixed up to livable condition but there are mostly old nails and farm implements around. I did find a mini ball last summer just laying on the surface of an eroded ditch and then I was putting a cow in a pen and looked down on the ground and there was a coin in perfect condition - It was a half dime with all the stars with no damage from the 1850's can't remember exactly- It looked like it had just been dropped and surely wasn't pocket worn..everything found goes to the bil . He preserves it for future generations. No more metal detecting at least . Bil grew up in this old house ,then, it had no running water or lights - just a cestern.. I don't want to hijack Mulemans post so will just say that the bil's daddy had to move the house 50 ft off the section line, with logs, a turnstile and MULES (there you go Muleman) or the army was going to tear it down .They temporarily seized all land around to build a munitions dump during WWII and it was their way or the highway. After the short move, the chimneys functioned but, plaster /walls all cracked or fell down. They lived in it till his Dad died in '66 - water would freeze on the mantels if the winter fires went out and the wind blew in from one end to out the other until they moved.. A long, long story but true. They restored the house in 1994 and I came over from Louisiana to do the stained glass and stayed...Thank you for the liberty muleman. I appreciate it.:thankyou2: . ....bordercollie
