Hello everyone, I am new here

Greetings everyone, I am new here. I recently won a Kubota RTV 500 in a raffle. Yes I know! I can't believe it either. It still feels too good to be true. We brought it home the other day.

I just wanted to take a sec and introduce myself to everyone here. My name is Marcus.

I know that Kubota makes a great product, but I know little about these things. I know even less about how to care and maintain it mechanically. Most of what I know is what I have read over the past few days. That is how I found this forum. I am hoping to learn more from everyone here.

I noticed that there were very few online customer reviews about the RTV 500 since they are fairly new in the market. I found plenty of reviews for every other UTV.

I hope to provide everyone with as much information as I can about my experience with my new 500. I also hope to shoot some video and post it online. Our land has some decent hills that should test its ability.

Here are some pictures I took after I got a little mud on the tires.

Hello Marcus,

Happy you picked us to share your story .... Very happy you also shared the pictures also, we are picture lovers too ) ..... that machine is a nice unit. Myself, I have a RTV 900 >>> And life without it would be just boring. There are much to learn about these vehicles, everybody has to " train " themselves to different things on them like the engine braking. But trust me, you will get used to everything on them. Another thing, Please wear the safety belts, expecially if you carry little ones.

We, and I can say this, WE are like family on this site. Have anything to add or some advise to help others, feel free to put your 2 cents in, for we all do. And if you get picked on, just pick right back !!!! For they are a bunch of RTV lovin' jokers on this site.

We have people here from every walk of life with the Kubota RTV, you will fit right on in. So thanks again for sharing your thoughts, and kick back and have a good day !!!!!

always here >>>>
............. two guns ........... ( jamie )

P.S.

WE also like to help you spend your money on the accessories .>>> just thought I'd add that in >>>>

Welcome to the forum MR4, You are very fortunate to have the RTV but also to have such beautiful scenery. We are eager to hear about your experiences with the machine and how it works for you.Have fun with it but stay out of deep mud with those WS tires. They will do fine where it's not too wet. Bordercollie

Welcome to the forum! Don't take any of us too serious as nobody else does. You call that mud on the tires? LOL You aint seen Tommy or Twoguns pics yet. Tommy pays to get his tires muddy!

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new RTV!!!

SE Ohio makes us nearly neighbors. I'm in SW PA about 15 miles from the OH line.

As Bordercollie mentioned, watch yourself in mud with those tires. They cake up quickly.

What are your plans for your RTV? What kind of accessories might you add? In our climate, a roof and windshield may be a nice start to keep the wind, snow and rain off you.

welcome to the site and thanks for telling him about how i pay to get muddy muleman.lol.i wish i could win a rtv in araffle man that must be some kinda luck huh??looks like some nice riding land around you there that rtv is gonna be fun .

Welcome to the forum.....I guess that Bordercollie just stuck you with MR4 as a nickname.........Tommy will think it stands for (Mud Runner 4-ever).....Watch out for Two Guns, he will try and sell you some road kill gator meat..........Muleman will try to ship you a corn eating Black Bear..........For myself, I need a soft Black Squirrel tail fora new toupee.

Where you live looks more like Pa. and Wv. combined......You will have fun with your RTV on those hills........

Rusty Anvil.....

no neg you need some nutria fur for dat chrome dome . it even comes in natural auburn brown.

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone. I am happy to share pictures and hope to share more in the future. The web is my thing. I work as a web designer/programmer at the local college.

Two Guns: We do have little ones (boys, 13 and 10) and "Always wear your seat belt" is rule #1.

In regards to accessories, I hope to add as many goodies as I can. I say why not since I only spent $50 on the raffle ticket that got this. Right now I wouldn't mind a winch, some extra lights, a roof, gunrack, and a sprayed in bedliner. Any suggestions from anyone here?

As for what I plan to do with my RTV...First I plan to put it to work on the homestead. We had a lot of downed trees from an ice storm this winter. It should also expand our hunting and trapping capabilities. Mostly trapping since it involves carrying hundreds of pounds of traps around.

Tommy: It IS some kinda crazy luck. I've never had luck in my life...ever. I thought someone was playing a cruel joke when they called. At times I fear that someone is gonna call me up and say "Oops, we made a huge mistake, we will have to take the RTV back."

Thanks again everyone!

MR4

MR4............ A welcome from me too.....Geeezz!...The only thing I ever won was a 15cent prize at the local fair that I had to spend $2.00 to win. Congrats on your good fortune and I'm sure you'll get lots of enjoyment out of your new working machine.

Kanook..............EH!

Welcome to the forum, MR4! You clearly are a very lucky guy, to win such a fine piece of kit. Well done! And thanks for the pics. We do enjoy photos on the site. As has been mentioned, you really will want at least a roof and a windscreen. Do you need to do any plowing or snow clearing? While Tommy and Two Guns deal with mud, some of us have more to do with snow. I have a relatively new (since late winter) RTV900 and I am VERY impressed by the quality of the machine.

You may also want to see about getting Tommy to make you some boot savers for your front axles. You don't want to be tearing your boots and the plastic stock protectors are one weak point of the design. Mind you, I am not sure if Tommy has a template yet for the 500.

Anyway, we are glad to have you aboard. It really is a fine group of supporters--most helpful and active forum I have yet encountered.

Onfoot in the North.

sorry no templete for the 500. didn't someone post that the a-arms are the same size?? maybe messicks can enlighten us on the size of them.

Welcome to the Forum. Good bunch of people here to discuss the RTV. Congrats on winning the raffle. You are way ahead of the game with just $20.00invested-- so far. LOL

By way of introduction, I'm known as Keifer, a RTV wannabe, andlive in sw PA.,about an hour east of Pittsburgh - in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains -- and still saving my pennies for an RTV. Hey, wait a minute, I just might have enough money saved up for one of thoseraffle tickets if I see one.

From what you read on the Forum, mostinformation has been gained fromthe HKUniversity. (HK=Hard Knocks). If you get a chance, you might want to wonder back through the archives and do some reading of past postings. You will find a warehouse of information that will answer many of your questions. You should findInvaluable info on all sorts of accessories that will make your machine much more practical, safer and enjoyable. Items like tire/wheel combos, winches, (not wenches), lights, gun racks, stick stoppers, radios, roofs, windshields. Being from Ohio, you might want to look into a snowblade setup as well. You don't want to be in a position where you are waiting for your Amish neighborsto come with their horses and pull you out of a snow drift.

The Messicks Company from over east in PA's Lancaster area is a super Kubota dealer and friend to this siteand offers all sorts of RTV fluids and filters(recommended) and other items as well as expert advice.

Thanks for sharing your photos and experiences and we hope you find the Forumfriendlyenough to come back often. It's not about competition but cheerfuly helping eachother. Ummm Well, as you can see from some of the threads, there has been mention of sending bail money several times and the political chatter usually stirs things up so you will findwe'renot all about nuts and bolts.Thats not saying that several might not be nuts. LOL

There is another one of those raffles coming up on the 4th of July. There were flyers in our local paper. You can even purchase tickets online for this one. I already bought my 2. You don't have to be present to win and only 6000 tickets are being sold. The raffle I won was similar, but only 5000 tickets were sold and some of the prizes were different.

Go here...

These types of raffles seem to be common around here. Do you guys have these elsewhere? I use the money I used to spend on the weekly lotto and just save it up to buy a couple of these raffle tickets per year...much better odds.

I will also post a write up here shortly about my first week as a Kubota owner. I was able to take my 500 out this weekend and stretch her legs on some of our ATV trails. All in all I was very impressed!

We have similar raffles around here.

Here's one of my favorites

http://www.btfaraffle.com/

A gun or cash prize every 5 minutes, for 7 straight hours. $25K at the end. All the food and beer you want. Normally, it's a quad every hour but they seemed to have mixed it up a bit this year.
