Here's a "Talk About Anything" - II

Talstar - friggin great.
Scythe herbicide - great but no residual so stuff comes back... It's awesome for what it kills, in minutes. Best for nostic commune.
Spectracide is my go-to for easy weeds. I'll know better tomorrow but I've used this in the past with great results.
I have 23 ton of stone being delivered. I wanted to hit the weeds and such before the truck comes in. May be a waste since the new stone will cover the weeds.

Weeds find a way through so I doubt it's a waste.
I sprayed the gravel portion of my driveway again today. First time I didn't have the potion strong enough.

2 bitches today.
I had 23 ton of 2B stone delivered yesterday. May be great for a garden but totally sucks as driveway material.
WTF - 90+ degrees today. I'm sweating by just standing outside.

Boy, did I screw up.
My one stone driveway needed a new "top coat". I ordered 23 ton of 2B stone. What a shitshow. This stuff is damn near impossible to spread evenly.
After several hours of trying to grade it (using multiple methods), I moved it off to the side. I'll find another use for it.
Now I'm going to order some 2A or smaller.

After driving your truck or tractor on it a while it would level out wouldn't it?
How in the heck would you remover it all? Might be better to top it with the smaller size stone.
2a and 2b are not sizes I'm familiar with. I just got a load of 57. Small less than one inch stone.

One side of my building (where I just park trailers) is about 16'x80'. I'm just going to move it all over there for now. It's getting near impossible to get millings anymore so I may take this stone into the woods trail at some point.
I did use about 4-5 ton in my new pole building.
I'll order 2A or smaller to do what I originally planned.

So far it doesn't. I've been driving the tractor over it and it just sits there and you can just kick it around with your shoes.
When it's only a couple inches thick on top of my hard base, it's like walking on marbles. Almost took a header yesterday just walking on it.
This is what it looks like.

I feel your pain, they put 2B in the approach area when I built my pole barn. I fooled with it for a year, never packed down. Moved and rutted with every tire turn, even a 4-wheeler. Friend recommended the 2A, so we spread it on top of existing stone. Leveled it then soaked it with a sprinkler. Wow! What a difference, the smaller pieces and fines firmed up, almost like cement! That was 8 years ago and still somewhat decent, but will probably topcoat it.
By what I understand, the 2B is basically all the same size and somewhat washed, main use is drainage French drains. Not having smaller pieces or fines (powder) keeps it from locking together.
I think you'll be happy with the change, best of luck!

Here is a big find for anyone wanting a new perfect hood air strut for Kubota 1100 series including 1140, 1120 etc. Works perfect. Look on Amazon for 15 inch 67 lbs/300 newton. arana I believe is one I ordered and you get two All hardware is compatable but included brackets are not used.

Just spent 20 minutes on the phone with my dump truck driver (who's well versed in stone options as well as my situation).
I'm going to get another 23 tons. This time 2A. Smaller product was going to be problematic as it was going to be rock, not stone and thus wont pack.

I top coated my drive close to the house and parking area with crusher run. It's a mixture of crushing fines and small stone. Easy to spread, level and back pull, packs in like cement when water is sprayed on it while compacting. Don't try to compact while dry.

Asphalt millings are a great topcoat, also. The rest of my farm lane has a 2b gravel base, with 7" deep asphalt millings applied and rolled in. Just like pavement.....until the 80,000 pound cement truck rolls down it during the rainy season.

Crusher run is another name for 2a stone which is what I'm getting. ;)

Millings have gotten really hard to get around here. I was getting it for $11/ton last year (delivered). I've had a standing order for about 8 months now for another 100 tons but just can't get it. Instead of scrapping it, they're grinding it up good and using it in new pavement (at the rate of 15%).

We can get millings down here in Tn. They are doing so much interstate construction and resurfacing, the plant has a massive pile in one of the side lots. I don't want to put any down until after I build my equipment barn. I'll need a couple of trucks of concrete for the slab and I don't want a repeat of what the concrete truck did to my milling a few years back when I had my carport slab poured. The drive millings never recovered from that. They are putting some of the millings back into the mix for new black top here, too. I can't recall if it was 15% or 30%. Back 10 years ago, I did a complete 7" thick coat for a 1/3 mile long drive for around $3k. It will probably cost me double that, now. I am going to roll mine in this time around. Last time, I used my F250 and drove and backed up and down the drive about 20 times. It work pretty good, but I am after a smoother finish this time around.

Any idea how big of a roller you're going to use?
Those little ones you tow behind your ATV or tractor will probably get pretty damaged via denting of the rolling surface.
6-10 ton vibratory. Son-in-law works for a CAT dealership. He can bring home a demo unit on a weekend.....

Perfect. Wish I had one available. The tri-axle truck that dropped off the stone did a great job of packing some places that recently eroded. I was jokingly going to ask him to drive his truck back and make laps of the areas I'm covering right now to get all packed in.

The past year, he has brought home a bunch of big boy toys to use on the weekends around the farm. I think I will keep him around for a while.....he is turning out to be quite handy.....
