HISTORY WITH THE RTV

The Pennsylvania Game Commission just released some Fisher here in the Mountains. Just like they did with the Coyotes. Now we have Coyotes all over the place killing deer, rabbits, squirrel, turkey and anything else they can catch and eat. The Fisher will be the next threat to our wildlife. They traded Turkey for Coyotes so the Deer population would be extinct and the insurance companys would not have any deer damaged vehicles.......Now isn't that great thinking???? What they should have done was cut the top chain of command by 1/5th and used the money for a useful purpose. They also imported some puma's....

Last spring I watched a coyote follow a doe in an open field and he kept sniffing the ground, so my first thought was that she was about to drop a fawn and the coyote was about to get a meal..............I always thought that game commissions were to protect our wildlife not destroy and kill them..............

I agree Farley Mowat is a great writer about the outdoors. Years ago I worked in Labrador and was introduced to his writingssince he lived in Newfoundland for a number of years. He also got the Crown to come to grips with acknowledging the Inuit and that has to be one of his best achievements. Not many of us Yanks know his writings which is a shame and if I hadn't worked up north I probably wouldn't either.

The bayou has its own law...>>> learn from that , do what you have to do !!! Don't let the Coyotes and otherthings detroy your wildlife, for they will !!!

Years ago, we had a certain section of property down here that was full of rabbits. We didn't hunt the coyotes there like we should have, maybe leftthe coyotesalone for about two years, went back to shooting them there on that property, and it took us five years to get the rabbits close to what they were >>>> so don't think it will not happen, for it will >>>> don't slack off , take 'em out !!!! Take care of your wildlife !!!!

rumour locally is the fisher was reintroduced locally in the ottawa river valley by the authorities to control the porcupine population that has no real predator other that the fisher. i'm not sure if the re introduction is true but the porcupine levels has definitely diminished since the fishers have become mo prevalent.

Glad you enjoy him. "The Boat Who Wouldn't Float" by Farley is also one of my favourites, speaking of Newfoundland. Labrador is a beautiful and rugged part of the world, too. I have only been to Goose Bay/Happy Valley, but did spend a fantastic few weeks exploring the west coast of Nfld, all the way up to St. Anthony. Fine people, too. Used to backpack regularly between Western Brook Pond and Gros Morne Mountain--before there was a marked trail, bushwhacking and map and compass work.

That's right, We can hear the packs of coyotes in the fall chasing some unfortunate animal. When the rabbits are in short supply, they go after whatever they can. The neighbor 3 miles down the road lost their small dog to em. I even found a stuffed animal torn up in the pasture. Wonder what is their natural predator ? Bordercollie

Two Guns,

We should have a coyote drop zone along with the RTV rendezvous. I know Kiefer and Muleman and Zoom will join us unless they already started their own coyote drop zone.............

Yep, kick a little dirt on 'em, and throwto gators !!!!

A coyote must be a horrible, tuff ,creature, he is the ONLYanimalI know, that will eat a skunk, even if it has sprayed. A damn buzzard will not even touch a skunk ~~~~ That's bad !!!

Don't fool yourself, that coyote is smart !!! Sneeky too !!!
