Huge Problem RTV 1100

Around the first of June 2012, I carried my 2011 model RTV 1100, which has 55 hours on it to my dealer. The problem was that the rear diff locking mechanism would not unlock.

It was under warranty. During the repair process, they cracked the transmission housing by over tightening a fitting. That required the entire rear drive and hydraulic units to be torn down and the whole housing replaced.

After almost eight weeks, I picked it up and it lacks the torque to climb some inclines it would handle with no problem before the teardown and replacement.
It now has a loud noise and vibration coming from the rear drive area.

The dealer still has it now. The issue for me is that this is basically a new $18,000.00 unit that has had a complete shop rebuild of the entire trans and drive unit. Since they have had it for over eight weeks with no success, I have no confidence that it will ever be put back to factory new specs.

They told me the Kubota rep was coming by Tuesday and they would see if he had any ideas.

Since the original problem (stuck rear diff) was a Kubota factory issue, and the trans and drive unit breakage was a dealer issue, it would suit me if the dealer and Kubota would buy it back. I would buy a new one if so. This one has a bad feel.

Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That is exactly what I would want. A replacement unit is the right thing for them to do. Good luck. You might want to check your states lemon law if they don't replace it.

I'm with 71 on this. They should give you a whole new unit. Fight for it as it's deserved at this point.

I third that. If they won't do that then insist on a brand new transmission etc..8 weeks is not reasonable . Good Luck and keep us posted. bordercollie

I agree with the others ...but will add if the dealer has to give you a new 2012 model for your 2011 it probably would be worth your while to pay a little for the model year difference and a new unit if they want that. I would not want the other one back after what they had done to it. Both Kubota and the dealer were at fault in this. I hope they will come together and get you back in a brand new unit. Good luck.

I agree with the others. Sounds as if one of their mechanics was overcoming a learnig curve while he was fixing your rtv. Bordercollie raises a good point about them replacing the trans. That should be the least they can do for you. Whatever way you go, replacement wise, "stick to your guns" they made the situation worse so they should make it right!

i would demand a new unit and if they give you some lip about it tell them your looseing money everyday your unit has been in the shop and start charging them a daily charge everyday it has been in the shop and everyday it sits in the shop. if they still give you the run around get a lawyer.

Went by the dealer today and met with the owner. We have bought several tractors and many implements from him in the past 35 years. he has always been straight to deal with in the past. Hopefully, this issue will be no exception.

We discussed a new 2012 replacement for my unit. He got the Kubota rep on the phone while I was in the office and made a strong case for a replacement.
The rep has to go through the channels with the higher ups. Should know something in the next few days.

The dealer also stated they would change over all the add ons at no charge.
( blinkers, rear window guard, sun visors, stereo, gun rack, wheels)

Will post an update when I hear back from the dealer.

Thanks for the replies.

Good luck Ron. Sounds like there is hope for sure. :thumb:
A good dealer is worth his weight in GOLD. :D

Sure hope the dealer and Kubota do the right thing for you and replace the unit.

I doubt they give you a new unit.....more likely they just replace the tranny....unlesss you have a lemon law in your state on RTV'S.

GL in any case.

A new RTV would be the proper thing for the dealer to do.
Kubota should absorb some of the heat and just swap out.

And you can bring up the idea that you have a friend down in Louisiana
that is on the forum, that hunts and feeds gators.
Hint to him that if things don't go just right. Cajuns have their own way
of taking care of problems, and gators don't leave no evidence. NONE !!!
Just a friendly idea ....

Thanks for all the replies.

Talked to the Kubota sales rep again yesterday. He understands all the details of the situation. Apparently a decision will be made next week as to their participation, if any.

After talking to him, I feel somewhat optimistic about the outcome.

The dealer is also waiting for the decision from Kubota before they commit.

I will post the outcome as soon as I know.

Thanks,

Ron

I will follow their reaction to the situation closely. This is a matter of honor and reputation that will show their true character. Good Luck!! Bordercollie

Thanks for the update and good luck Ron. We have a lot of Kubota fans here pulling for you. I hope Kubota does the right thing.

Thanks for the update Ron.
Sure has taken them more time then they need to fix this problem IMO.

Keep us informed.....Ron as to the outcome.

Thinking about it since the dealer screwed this up maybe.....really would have been better I think the dealer said the case was broke when they tried to fix it.
And it may have been cracked and they never saw it and when they put it together then it broke.
Kubota would just replace the tranny......now since dealer said he broke the case....it would probably be whatever the dealer wants to do as they are gona pay for there mistake not bota.
Since you buy other stuff there....hopefully they just give you a new unit and fix your old one and resale it or part it out.
I have a mechanic friend that works for a chevy dealership.....and when a tranny comes in thats messed up he takes them out for a test drive and makes sure they replace it.
Cause even if he has to fix them by what they pay he can't do the job right and they never work as good as a new tranny.
I think he said to me the other night its been like 3 years since he had to rebuilt one under warranty.
He said there so much junk parts in these new trannys and the price of just a few parts and labor is more than a new tranny.... there not worth fixing them anyway.

Farmboy, have you been without the use of your machine all this time? Did the dealer give you a loaner? If you have been without a machine for a couple of months, that should factor into what Kubota & the dealer should do to rectify this situation.
