Looking for feedback on snow plows

I need to get a snow plow and Kubota currently has up to 2 years no intrest and no money down. The straight blade was quoted as $2300 installed, and the V plow $5300. I live in the snow belt up near Syracuse NY and it will definatly get its use. I don't know if there is a big difference between the two, I have never used a plow before. I saw a you-tube video on the V plow and it look very heavy-duty and was impressive. It's that the price is so much more, I don't know if it is worth it. Anyone with any advice would be apperciated.
 
I have the straight OEM Curtis plow on my '05 900 & it works great. The hydraulics to turn the blade are VERY nice.

I've used full size V-plows before, they work good for the first pass thru deep snow, then they get configured as a straight blade. I wouldn't spend the extra $3,000 if I had to replace it.

There are several other people on this forum that have used other makes of plows that will probably offer their help.

I bought the Kubota Staight blade and had it taken off, it was very light duty! My dealer made a deal for a Boss plow, really nice unit. very easy to get on and off and it works great! I live west of Syracuse and with the snow we had last year, it was amazing. A couple sugestions, have the heavy duty front struts installed and get the joystick control instead of the handheld (I have an open cab 1140 and the handheld control is kinda tough with gloves on).
 
Plow

JP1100- I have the BLIZZARD plow on my rig. I shattered the frame on a Kubota (made by Curtis) snow plow. I really like the Blizzard because it is very heavy duty. It's made for a small truck or Jeep. I have a long 1/3 mile driveway and it has done a really good job. My only problem is I have a rough shale driveway and the frame when the plow is connected is quite low to the ground. The plow and frame is very durable.

My neighbor has the Kubota V blade on his RTV 900 and loves it.

Hey everyone thanks for the info. I think I am going to try and get the V-plow, it just seems more heavy duty for my application and plowing shale driveways.

Is there anyway one can be left on ?

Yes, you can keep it on. When I got the rig back from the plow dealer, the brush guard was on. I am always concerned with all the weight of the plow and frame on the front. I know there are heavy duty shocks on the front of the 1100 to support the weight of the cab. I don't really see the need for a brush guard when I leave the plow on all winter. I will put the brush guard back on in the spring.

Here is what I did after having a stock Curtis Plow 72" model and getting stuck due to low clearance issues.

Recent shots. Blade is about 20" off the ground when in straight ahead angle and I think I have 12" from the ground to the bottom of my bumper bracket. I know it's higher than the belly pan that's for sure. It's 9 degrees out today and colder with the windchill, I'm not going outside to measure.

Spud, do you have a write-up anywhere on this? I'm mostly following what you did there. Just a little confused on the controls and the actuation.
 
When I had my 900 with the curtis plow that electric system that kubota used was so slow it took more time going up and down then plowing the snow.
So I bought a 2500 atv warn winch with the push button and the long corded remote.
Came with a monting plate so i just welded it up on the top of the bracket were the stock one was and used the warn winch all the time.....and keep the stock one there as a back up.
Way faster and also had the stock angles hyd. on it.
Was ok......but i have the 1100 with the blizzard blade on that one which is twice as good as the curtis was.....but the curtis got the job done just could not stand the cold so I traded my 900 in for the 1100 since am wheelchair bound i need to keep warm.
Installed my old hand controls....old ones which i had laying around a modified it to fit both the 900 and then remouted it to my new 1100.
Had to make brackets for each one....but one has to do what one has to do.

I thing I had like 250 dollars in the winch......which i thought was the cheapest way to go as i use to have a atv with a plow which used warn winch for raising and lowering the plow on that.
Which gave me the idea of using a atv warn winch for the 900rtv.

Was a easy do and cheap enough for me....i think kubota wanted 500 dollars for a replacement if their ....hate to say it....peace of junk for there curtis setup.
Told my dealer curtis...or kubota... should have used a warn winch from the start and he agreed.

Added notes to photo's to help explain the process of development.

Original selector valve was on the plow where the pressure relief block was mounted on the RTV900 setup. Moving it to under the hood makes a neater job on the RTV1100 and the pressure relief block is back in use, a good thing as I already bent one bolt when it wasn't installed.

Bumper turned out good but side plates for mount could have been smaller, 3" instead of 4", and uprights closer to grill.

Like to replace single control valve in cab with 3 spool setup so box and up/down and left/right could all be connected and used without having to disconnect and reconnect hoses.

I can explain more if needed.

Art, I'm in a wheelchair too, but my hand controls are two sticks with a screw in the end that fit in the holes of the pedals.

I like the Blizzard plow for it's width. 72" inch curtis is too narrow really. You almost scrap the side of the cab trying to get close to objects and the edge of ditches.

XTROOPER, how much clearance under your mounting system from Blizzard?
 
I have the Kubota OEM plow on mine and am in a major snow belt in Northern Michigan.The plow is heavy enough but the mount is made of thinner metal and I broke mine the 3rd year in but it broke by me hitting a frozen corner of ice in the drive way.
I just picked up some 1/4 inch angle iron and reinforced it.
My drive way is 1/2 mile long plus the area around the chicken coupe so I move major snow here.
The oem will do the job but remember it isnt a Dozer either.
Here was from last year on my drive way and around the Observatory area.
The Grim reapers also rock in the snow

Plow Frame

Spudhauler-A little over 4 1/2 inches. When I go down my driveway with the plow raised, I sometimes hit the frame on my rough shale driveway and have to drive fairly slowly. I get to the town road and it isn't a problem. The lack of clearance from the fround to the plow frame is about the only thing I would improve. I guess I would always like the plow to be raised higher because in New England I used to see the state highway guys and town crews push back the snow on the sides of the road and I really can't do that too awful much with this plow. I have the larger one and really like it.

Not very much....maybe 3 inches if your lucky.....I leave my on all year around so it will plow dirt with the blade all the way up if you are not carefull.
As long as you don't go fast i hardly ever hit the bottom....were the easy hook up is were it is low.....the claw part for quick attacment which is a joke imo.....why i keep mine on all year as i don't use it much in the summer.
Two sticks?????.......lol.....u need to put hand control on her and a wheel spinner.
I did a few mods to make hand control easyer to use.....like throttle return spring and took off that hyd. cly.black thing off the back under the dump box.
Also replaced that big spring with a lighter one also by that hyd. throttle thing.
There is one under the dash to for the gas i just took that one off.
Made had controls much easyer to use and did not affect the rtv at all.
Brake is really hard to press down to make it work.....but with that hyd.system you dont need to use the brake much anyhow....you going in high gear wide open and let off the gas you better have your seat belt on or threw the windshield you will go.
I forgot to buckle up once and kissed the windshield as a para no muscle to stop you.....lol
So with all that hyd. stopping power I hardly ever use the brake.
I would really have to go out in barn and see what i did again as it has been a few years since i did it and got all the things i took off marked in a box for the 1100.
My neighbor has the same thing i do but he can walk so his is stock.
He was at my house last year with his complaning about how hard the stock throttle was......I said get mine out and try her.....he came back and said wtf the gas peddle is like my car....he said something must be wrong with his and i just lol.
I fixed his throttle like mine he is a happy camper now.

btw....i think we have talk on CCC once about pouring water on your lap incase you get stoped for speeding to get out of it........lol

I removed the spring in behind the dash cover for both the throttle and brake pedal with no ill affects. Much easier on the hands pushing my sticks.
Get in on the passenger side so removed the bolt in rail for ease of access.
No we have not cross paths before. Working on other things so RTV is out in the yard these days, otherwise I'd show pictures.

Hardly ever use the brake is probabaly why I did not look into that....Thanks for the info.

I made a lift outa of lift cart....use electric winch on it so i get on that and just raise myself up and get in on the driver side.

Well I got me 1100 back from the Kubota dealer on Friday. I decided to go with the Kubota V-Plow V4291. This thing is heavy duty. We got about 3" of snow Saturday and I was able to test it out, works real well, The plow control is on the shifter where the old knob was. It took some time to get used to, but works great. I hope we get some serious snow now to really test it out.
 
The Kubota V4291 is what I have also JP1100. I really like it. It is made by Kanlan Attachments for Kubota.
I think it ends up being so pricey cause it is fully hydraulic (and has a Kubota decal on it).
I first saw one in action being used by the snow removal contractor where I used to work. That thing could sure take a beating and push alot of snow. It is also nice that just the cutting edge spring trips when you hit something.
The down side for me is that the brush guard had to be removed to install the plow (which means I will be putting it back on in the Spring)
I struggled to decide as you did cause there are just so many good choices to pick from.
I think all the plows mentioned in this post are good and honestly reviewed by some of the best people there is.
Thats why I think this forum is so great.
