Standing on Mississippi ground. Camera Shooting toward Louisiana ....

You can see the Mississippi River bridge in one shot.
Also, you can see the little Louisiana town across the river. If you look close, you can spot the levee on the bottom of the picture, then again midway left of the church steaple. The levee surrounds that little town to help keep high water away.

Good pictures Jamie. I'm right on the Ohio river and will see fog like that pretty regularly. Love the river and river pics. Please share pics of the big muddy any time you can. And I'll try to get some pics of the fog and river in general here.
One of these days I'd love to cruise the river all the way from here to New Orleans. Probably have to hit the lottery just to afford the gas, but I would love to do it.

Great pics! Thanks.
I have a creek in my back yard but you wouldn't be impressed, even if there was fog.

Viking Queen and Her 10,500 Horses

I was watching this thing come up the river one day recently and noticed it was moving up river about as fast as I can jog-not too fast. I could easily keep up with it on foot. I wondered how much engine it takes to push all those barges up river. You can see in the pic there are 7 barges in front of the tug, but you can't see the other four barges on the far side of each one of the seven. 35 barges in all, going up stream in a pretty doggone swift current. I noticed on the side of the tug the name of the boat, the "Viking Queen". I Googled "Viking Queen" and here's what came up:

Impressive that its been in service for 37 years.

As I understand it the Mississippi current is normally 8mph according to a guy who was head of accommodations (rooms and dinning areas) on the Mississippi Queen. They would run up the Ohio also. Awesome boat; but I think it's retired now.

I've rarely see a barge pushing 7 barges longwise. Normally they are 3 barges wide for a total of 21. Once i saw one 7 long and 4 barges wide. Interesting to watch them lock through the damns. THANKS for the pic!!!!!!!

Crazy how the barges push up the fog. Looks something like you would see in
a air tunnel , but in slow motion.

Thank God for Radar.

Seeing them roll threw bridges and make bends in the mighty river, and remarkable is when they meet, each giving the other, with respect " just enough room to pass"
