Modified rear mud guards

I was not happy with the performance of the rear mud guards on my newly accuired 2008 RTV 1100. They hung straight down allowing the tire to sling mud under rear of bed and lights also on back of tailgate. Got to thinking (look out!) if the mud guard stood out a little further that it would be better.
So after all that this is what I did. Had some scrap pieces of lexan laying around so I made a mud flap lift. It works great so far was at hunting club last week end all kinds of mud after last rain, got back no mud on back of or under back of bed. Just thought some might find it interesting.

Sweet! I was thinking of making something myself to hold the guards out farther but haven't gotten around to it.

At that angle, how much space is there between the guard and the tire when the bed is fully lifted?

If anyone comes up with a good mud guard for the back of the rtv 900 let me know.I ripped one of mine in half last season and dont want to spend the million and a half for a kubota replacement.Has to work but nor break the bank.Im moving a lot slower the past week.Spent a few days in the hospital with pain issues. They ruled out canger with the high white ceel count but gained a few more brain lessions from my MS so I am moving a bit slower till i heal up some.If anyone knows of a good design with a decent easy to work with material please let me know.
All the best to the greatest people here on the forum.

Regards

Mark. PS im heading into town to pick up a volt meter for the 900.Can anyone else think of any other meter that may be useful on the 900 as I like my lights and meters lol.Im a Northern Michigan Hillbilly and like my gadgets.

Sorry to hear about your health Mark. :(

I would "think" an old truck mud flap cut to shape/size would work. It's a bit heavier material compared to the OEM so it may stand on its own.

When I get around to it this summer, I am going to put a mud flap hanging down on each side . This would be superior in my humble opinion tothe oem on there that is mounted to the fender.. My tail lights get caked with mud with the these oems. The ones I have in mind will be of rubber ( a truck mud flap I found on the side of the road) and it will mount on a piece of angle hanging from the bed frame just behind the tires.... This should keep the tail lights clean too. I once had a pair of Yosemite Sam flaps saying "back off"pictured holding his pistols. Those were on my Ford Courier back in the goood old days..................... maybe I'll get another pair.............
Hang in there Mark .. bordercollie

Mark:

I hope that with God's grace and todays medical procedures your health issues continue to improve.
In regard to the mud flaps, I was thinking of using some discarded mine conveyor belting. But, that stuff is so heavy and hard to work with. As Bordercollie was suggesting, truck mud flaps might be the best way to go. Pretty easy to cut to size and a couple of small bolts and fender washers would do the trick. They would last forever I'm thinking.

Thanks for all of the well wishes.Yes Ill have to see if maybe i can find a truck mud flap and make it work.I did get toe volt meter on today and a brand new light switch panel with built in fuses.Damn it looks nice lol.I did notice on the volt meter with noting running im at about 15.5 to 16 volts which is normal with head lights on drops 1 volt with flashers on and strobes and side marker lights on i run about 14 volts which is good butt when i turn on the bif roof mounted hogs i go to 12 volts lol.I knew they drew a little but didnt expect to see a 3 to 4 volt drop.At least now I can moniter the voltage with everything on.

Thanks Jamie Very much appreciated my friend.I can honestly say I belong to at least 10 forums dealing with everything and anything but the people here are the most freindliest and best people of them all.You are all the best and make my days go by a lot better knowing I have friends here who actually care about one another.I dont know what I would do without you all.And that aint no BS!

Hang in there Mark. I know what you are going through. I just had my 3rd bone marrow draw and now am on a new pill to kill a bunch of my platelets. After a month the doc dropped me back to once a month blood tests. Every week gets old when you live 52 miles from the cancer center or 100 miles from the big one.

Mark, hate to hear about those issues. Good thoughts and prayers coming your way my friend. :flowers:

With bed lifted bed almost touches the flap not even close to tire. will try to raise and get picture later.
Nice work. The are the pics of two different types of flaps. The top one being what you make and the bottom two appear more tapered and black plastic. I like the idea. I have not drivien my RTV enough yet to see the problem but sure is good to know a solution ahead of time. :thumb: :D

No the flap is original one from factory, I just cut a piece of lexan and put under the flap which holds it out futher. It looks like on newer RTV's it stays out futher not sure but with a little age gravity makes them hang straight down. It took me about 30 mins to make. Faster now cause got the pattern now.

Ahhh, I got it. And I looked at mine tonight and sure nuff they are hanging straight down and I have mud on the underside of my rear lights and bed. Good thinking boo. I'm going to have to rig up something very similar. :thumb:

more pictures

Took some more pics today hopes this makes it a little clearer. Raised bed again today. the bed does touch the mud guard but only slightly don't think it will be a problem. The lexan is very flexable and won't break rounded edges of lexan to prevent cutting mud guard. I guess you could use the lexan without the flap also. Added a couple unrelated pictures one is what we call the bunk house at our hunting club, way back off the road no current just generator. the other is the Bota at work at hunting club this year. the ugly guy on the right is me.

Good pictures boost. On my RTV 900, the fenders are attached to the bed and raise up with it. I like those clean tail lights on yours. Nice job! bordercollie
