Thought you would find this some good reading --- came from the organization, the Navy League of the U.S. that I've been with for almost
20 years.

Hi all FYI--for what freedom is worth.
Tiffany and Jeff Porter are our friends who were in our ward when we lived in Provo. They now live in Virginia.
(Below is from Tiffany)
I don't know each of your personal political convictions, and apologize if anyone finds this offensive. I thought it was important enough to share. This is Jeff's first hand view of Senator Obama.

---------- Forwarded Message ---------- Hello everyone,

As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to "The War Zone". I wanted to share with you what happened. He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram.
As the Soldiers where lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn't say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service.
So really he was just here to make a showing for the American's back home that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are providing the freedom that they are providing for you.
I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the President of the United States. I just don't understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-and-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country.
If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake.
In service, CPT Jeffrey S. Porter Battle Captain TF Wasatch American Soldier

The author of that slander was an active duty Army Intelligence Officer who should be courtmartialed.

This Army Intelligence Officer signed another person's name name to his slander. But he was found out.

Jeffrey S. Porter: Conduct unbecoming an officer

These false e-mails are all too common--the Republican Party seems to be relying on these false stories and rumors to defeat Barack Obama. What is uncommon is that this time the perpetrator was caught and exposed

the story of Porter's slimy attempt to smear Obama should be spread far and wide so that people know the truth about what Republicans are up to.

Update: Factcheck.org has also weighed in and confirms that Jeffrey S. Porter has confessed that his e-mail was false. Click here to read Factcheck.org's report on this incident.

John McCain must immediately make it clear that he does not want his supporters engaging in these tactics.

As for Jeffrey S. Porter: he should immediately be court martialed for conduct unbecoming an officer and dismissed from the service in disgrace
.

CPT Jeffrey S. Porter should be tried for Violation of the UCMJ

Jeffrey S. Porter, of the Utah-based 142nd Military Intelligence Battalion, wrote an Obama-smearing "that guy hates the troops" screed the other day. Of course, his email got picked up by all the best right wing sites--it was ready-made for viral dissemination--and signed, "In service, CPT Jeffrey S. Porter, Battle Captain, TF Wasatch, American Soldier (married and father of 6 children)".

Now, after the Captain's note (and probably his service file?) was punched full of more holes than a post-SINKEX Spruance, the hapless Captain Porter is now saying something very different:

"I am writing this to ask that you delete my e-mail and not forward it, after checking my sources some of the information that was put out in my e-mail was wrong. This e-mail was meant only for my family. Please respect my wishes and delete the e-mail and if there are any blogs you have my e-mail portrayed on I would ask if you would take it down too.

I challenge Captain Jeffrey S. Porter to produce a single letter to his immediate family that ends with "In service"
.

according to the Salt Lake Tribune, the guy--who deals with matters where veracity is of critical importance--is probably not going to be disciplined. [by the Bush Administration.]

Folks, lets keep it real. Passing along lies is no way to choose a President.

Paul and California..........Thanks for the correction and the updates. There is a lot of slander and untruths being pumped thru the Internet.

Yeah, such is the internet. There are factually incorrect or blatantly false e-mails floating around the internet for almost every well-known politician or celebrity. It's been that way for years, and I would wager it will be that way long after the 2008 election. The interesting thing in this instance is that they knew who originated it.
I'm just waiting for the day that my inbox has a Snopes filter alongside the spam filter to automatically debunk e-mail forwards as they come through :)

What a kewl idea. I had never thought of that, and it doesn't seem that far fetched.

I seriously doubt that anyone ever changes their mind about any candidate because of these type of emails. Sure not defending those spouting false info into our email inboxes, But anyone who reads that and went "Oh no, I was going to vote for Obama but now that I've read this I've changed my mind" would be so shallow that their mind would change a dozen more times before the election.
