Hello my name is Nick I have been looking at this forum for a while now and it has rele been a big help. We have been looking for a used utv of some sort that was in our price range for a while now, we were mainly going to be using it to asist in cutting grass as a way for us to get around and trim. Now here is some background in as to why we were looking for one, my brother works for a non for profit restoration group that owns alot of property but they recently couldnt afford to pay a company to cut about the 15-20 acres worth of grass they have so we took over the job since we have 2 walkbehinds and use the garage at there office as our shop/ storage for them and our 4 wheelers. So i volunteer my time to cut grass and my bro just does it during his normal work day. we are also currently rehabbing a house in the area too which is conveniently right across the street from the garage. We wanted a utv so we could use it around the neighborhood since we now take care of all the grounds, we also wanted it to be able to give tours of the neighborhood, but also something we could take to the country with us and get work done. We looked at all the brands and had rele narrowed it down to Kawasaki, kubota, or john deere. So we had been looking like I said for about a year and couldn't rele find any cheep enough that weren't extremely old or beat up. So one day I was out at our deere dealer picking up some stuff and asked if they had any used gators and they said no but they do have a kubota rtv that they just got on triad in. So I went and had a look at it it was in as in condition and they were asking $2500 for it so we talked it over and decided to have them diagnose whats wrong and if it want anything magor we would buy it as is. Well they called back and said it needed a new battery, tires, and part of the rear axle was stripped out so it would only go in 4 wheele drive so we decided to get it since we could do all the work on it because my dad owns a repair shop that we could do it all at. so we brought it home and ordered 2 new tires and 2 inter tubes and put them on we then discovered that the u joints in the front driveshaft were worn out so we orderd a whole new driveshaft and then a new rear flange to fix the striped out rear one. Now the rear u joint is going bad too but we didnt order that yet but put all the new parts on and its like brand new. It is a 2007 with around 2400hrs so we are at about $3000 total spend on it and new parts with only one u joint left to replace so i dont think we did to bad on the deal. here are some pics.

This machine truly is a work horse, it may not be fast but the power is amazing and we are very happy with out decision to go with the kubota

Erb?

Hi Nick,
Good call on the RTV!
Was that photo taken at Erb Equipment in St. Louis? I recognize the equipment yard from somewhere in my past...
You're going to appreciate the RTV as a workhorse. It's no speedster as I'm sure you found out but it will pull like a Willys and sip the fuel while doing so.
There's an encyclopedia of knowledge on this site regarding RTVs (& lots more). Use the search function to look up the rear U-joint problem. Lots of pragmatic advice on that issue.
Have fun!

Welcome bobcatnsti,

Looks like you came across a good deal.

Have you changed the fluids & filters yet ?

What about the spark arrestor, what shape is it in ?

I see you have a nice windshield, that is a big plus !!!!

Let us know if there is anything we can help with >>>>

Yes it is from Erb equipment in stl, i have a very good relation ship with them, tey may be a john deere dealer but I have a way better relationship with them than our local kubota dealer. I am on a first name basis with them at erb because im out there atleast once a month looking/buying things. The kubota dealer around here likes to mark up their things very high. No we have not changed the filters and fluid yet but that is next on the list the last change was just about a year ago so its time.

Congratulations!!!! You are going to love it. From the lever, it looks like you have the WS model. :) bordercollie

No we have not changed the filters and fluid yet but that is next on the list the last change was just about a year ago so its time.

My suggestion, with others would be, go back with the Kubota Super UDT
fluid, and use OEM Kubota filters on the oil and transmission.

You need to go ahead and change fuel filter also.

The way the fuel is getting now, you need to start at the beginning on
adding a fuel additive for lubricate for injectors and such. The diesel fuel
we ALL get does not now have the lubricating properties these machines
need. There are several good quality additives, don't go cheap. I myself use the Stanadye additive, but may I stress, please use the additive before
you have to spend big $$$$$$$$ on your pump and injectors !!!!!

Thanks for the advice and i did look the fuel filter was brand new on it when we bought it. The original owners (a cemetary) were having trouble starting it so they replaced the fuel filter but it was actualy just a bad battery.

Nick - I know about the high priced JD/Kubota dealer you are referring to and I only go there in an emergency. I get all my Kubota stuff from Mordt Tractor in Warrenton. Their main store is in Troy but I deal with Fred Beck at Warrenton. They'll ship whatever you need. They have been way more than fair with me on tractors, the new RTV, and recently a 61" 725DT Grasshopper. (I bought a new 6X4 Gator at Erb 20 years ago and still use it in wet areas that the RTV would rut up.)
The other parts place that a lot of people on this site use is Messicks in PA. You can Google them or someone here will post the contact info. They used to sponsor this site.

Yes we ordered the new parts we needed from Messicks and were extremely pleased with the service/price and will definitely be doing more business with them in the future. I called that "JD/Kubota dealer" that we speak of and they wanted $513 for the new drive shaft and $160 for the rear flange, I was able to get them through Messicks for a total of $207.

Nick:

Welcome to the forum and lots aluck with your new machine. The folks on this forum are terrific in helping to provide a storehouse of knowledge about the RTV.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your rtv. Let me give you a perspective on your buy. We recently put a rtv (900) up for auction with a hole in the block and it went for 2500. So I would feel good to get a "running" one for 2500!

Clueless....is that the place you work at by the pic?......j/k
Or Cov62431 is that the place you work at....j/k....I know one of you work on these day in and day out.

We both work on them, but that's not where I work. Where I work we have a fleet that we maintain, and rent them out inside the company just like a 3rd party vendor. When the job is over they return them and we fix 'em.

Ok ,thanks yea I have a friend that has over 2200 on his and it's going strong Lol I hope I have that good of luck w/my Rtv

If he takes care of it, it will last him a long time. On this board, you can see what the most common issues are and how to fix them. Other than that, these machines are pretty solid. I know that ours do take a beating at times and usually hold up pretty well.

been using the heck out of it and honestly dont know how we got by without one for so long lol
here are some pics from out watering one of the parks we take care of.
