Vacation is over... Back to the grind.

What's going on? I see y'all have been busy posting.

PS. It's too damn hot in the south... Glad to be back to the nice weather where we may reach the 60's during the day and still get a refreshing frost at night.

Amen on the temps! Glad the world is big enough to allow climates that suit us! :-) Welcome back. I am currently in Dubai at some meetings and it is way too hot for my blood, but at least is dry. Hot and humid is the worst! (And I know, having once lived for three years in Augusta, GA.) Can't wait to get back to Whitehorse where it's 47F as I write this...

As you know I am always good! I don't need these cold nights as I spent over an hour covering plants with every bucket I could find. Calling for 20's again tonight. Hope the kids enjoyed the trip. Did mrs. zoom get a good tan? Bet she went shopping crazy in new digs. I enjoy going south to visit but can't take the heat and humidity anymore.

Bczoom,,

Welcome back.........everyone is still here...........We haven't heard from Keifer for a few days..........Bordercollie, Two Guns, Tommy, Onfoot, Kubota kanook, Muleman, are all here waiting for your return.........Hope I didn't forget anyone...

i'm here i been a bad bad boy i dine went out and become an outlaw!!! i done got me a ticket and i had a clean record too.

Welcome back BCzoom

Can't go on vacation when retired...I should have stayed employed, I wouldn't have to work so hard. i been busy cleaning up that snow blade I bought a while back. got the blade sand blasted and repainted Kubota orange. Thats good paint.Got it at the Kubota dealer and it dries to the touch in about 15 minutes. Now I'm working on getting the hard cab that I just acquire (used)back into new condition. Getting the doors and other bits and pieces sand blasted and will get it painted and installed before summer end. Cab came with work lites, dual wipers, mirrors HD front springs and heater and strobe. Don,t plan on freezing the digits come next winter.

Also been busy with my little business. Blow snow in the winter... and cut trees, chip the branches, move top soil deliveries back hoe worketc in the other 3 seasons. Amazing how busy one can be kept once word gets around that theres an old guy with all these Kubota machines and is available (at a cost) to perform all these tasks.

Was thinking of OnFoot the other day while cutting down two maples that a customer wanted to get removed. Two beautiful hard sugar maples that the homeowner wanted to get rid of. Got about2 face cords and two loads of wood chips and my fee for doing the work.Had to haul it away, but the RTV handled that.

Lots of btu in these northern maples and I bet OnFoot would have liked theblocks added to his wood pile. That RTV and B1700 are earning their keep while the F3060 takes a rest.

I'm thinking of getting a stump grinder as money can be made in suburbia eliminating the stumps. Anybody out there got any experience with or advice on stump grinders?????...............I hate to think of whatthe Louisiana twins will do with that........

.

Happy that ya'll had a safe trip >>>>

Mrs. Two Guns said something theother day about a vacation. She stated that she would like to go somewhere where she'snever been, or somewhere where she hasn't been in avery long time .....

>>>>>>>>> Itold he to go stand in front of the stove >>>

.......... she's pissed at me again !!! There went my happy meal >>>>>

>>>>> two guns <<<<<<<<

Two guns just read your post to my wife. Wrong thing to do she started on me about I did not know how lucky I am that she cooks for me. But we both got a good chuckle out of your post. I am heading to Montana on the 27th for the summer. I hope the Kubotas fire up when I get there since I am looking forward to putting some time on them.

Appreciate your thinking of me--but would like the two face cords of sugar maple even more! Lots of btus indeed! I did manage last week to pick up what I would estimate to be a full cord of Lodge Pole Pine and White Spruce. They are widening a bit of the road on the way to our place and the city crews very kindly leave the lengths (anywhere from 4' to 8') on the side of the road for guys like me to 'recycle'.

Sounds like you are staying profitably employed!

Yes Sir Mister, you are very lucky that your wife cooks ~~~

I've have told many, manyyoung children that has came around during times of them growing up, when you see my wife cook, that is when you know she is taken her stove medicine . She's Very Allergic to the Stove and Cooking Utensils >( children never forget anything ) >>>>> Now, some has grown up some and come over for some sweets and goodies like folks do during visits. Well, they will make statements like, " SEE SHE'S ON HER MEDICINE " OR , " GLAD MRS. TWO GUNS HAS TAKEN HER MEDICINE THIS MORNING, THE BROWNIES & COOKIES ARE GOOD " >>>>

That drives her crazy, he has told me time and time again to quit telling these youngin's the medicine story, it's not true at all >>>
Then I always come back and say >>>>> " Well, if it ain't true, why do them kids keep saying it " ?????

( Got side-tracked about my wifes medicine ) HEY Canyon Creek MT , Kubota's will be just fine ..... know ya'll can't wait to get over there. That is some beautiful country you have .... Might have to help the batteries a little, unless you have 'em on a trickle dillie things >>>>> MIght want to invest in one of them Jumper Boxes, they are a good item to keep in the tool box of the truck..... We use them all the time down helping machinery that needs a little boost and times when somebody leaves something on in big equipment over the weekend .... things happen all the time in the south. Life is full of surprises, YEA !!!!! One day, God willing.... When we get all this stuff figured out and how to keep things running while I'm gone, I'm going to take a trip and see some of these super folks on this site.....

You too? I also have to confess to being bad--purchased an '06 F250 4x4 superduty diesel, short-bed, supercab. Replacing my very beat up '94 F250 4x4 which was showing its age. Must be the season!

I traded in an o2,F250 super duty, 4x4, diesel, long bed. The problem with the diesels is that you can not hardly ever lay a wrench on them for less that 500 bucks. I loved the power and that low end torque of the diesel. The gas engine will take some getting use to. My last two trucks were diesels . Both Fords.
I spent big bucks and bought a Tundra, 09 4x4 5.7 double cab short bed.
The Tundra's are a very, nice , tough truck >>>> period !!!! I've had them on my " thinking " list for the last year or so ~~~

My oldest son, who is a diesel mechanic at Ford, know's much about working vehicles, trucks, engines of all makes .... And he made the statement several times ..."If it burns diesel, he wants aFord,( For he works on them and knows everynut, bolt, and diggy in them) , but if he get a gas burner, he wants a Tundra ..... he talks highly on them Tundra trucks..... He has also said that the Chevy Duramax with the Allison trannys, are very tough also, but being he works on the Fords, he might just stay with the Ford Diesels >>>>

Myself, I'll just keep my 'ole '75 3/4 farm truck, ( 454 red label engine ), has had that puppy for a many of year, and still runs just as good as it came of the showroom floor .... If that old truck could talk, would it have some storys to tell !!!!! Back when they were advertising that truck way back then, the ad's said it was introducing the " new, tuff, farm hand " for the working man. Made for heavy-duty work !!! They new what they were talking about, for it is a very tuff truck, carries the 4:10 gears in the rears, will pull just about anything you tie to it .... Gas milage, well, we will not go there.......

We have several other trucks to run & work in, but I always walk around town in my old truck, everybody know it !!!!

>>>>>>>>> two guns ..............

Muleman and other frost recipients - We've had frost the past 2 nights as well. Luckily, I havn't put in anything yet that would need covered. Peas, leeks, radish... don't care about the frost. Having lived in W. NY for about 20 years, I know better than to put anything fragile into the ground until after Memorial Day.

Tommy - I saw your posts on your escapades. Let us know how it comes out, with both the guy that has the land as well as the DA.

KK - sounds like you've been busy. I too had an interest in a stump grinder but just used a backhoe and ripped them out instead. It's also funny about the types of wood that are a premium in different areas. Around me, the maple is considered "just OK" and will be burned but given a choice, it would be near the bottom of the selection. It doesn't have a good "shelf life" compared to a nice oak or other harder wood.

Jamie - Glad to hear you're on a diet. How much weight does one loose when the cooking stops? A friend of mine tried a similar line on his wife. Although somber, his funeral services were very nice. What kind of Jumper box do you run? I picked up a somewhat cheap one a month or so ago. One of the combo units with the starter and air compressor. So far (knock on wood) it hasn't failed me and seems to work pretty good.

Bordercollie - The weather was pretty nice until the last few days. Then it did the switch where the temps and humidity went way up. It wasn't as much fun at that point... I saw the bedliner spammer post and how y'all kicked their butts. I did consider deleting the thread but opted to keep it in view for any future spammers to review and then consider whether they want to try spamming themselves.

CCMT - Like 2-guns said, except the battery, the RTV should be fine. Do a quick inspection of hoses and wires to assure no mice or other varmints did any chewing damage. I was up in MT last year. Beautiful place!!!

Deerlope and OnFoot - Congrats on your new trucks!!! We need pictures!!! I was at the dealers a few weeks ago looking at the newer ones. What I found is that Ford is still demanding a premium. GMC is practically giving away the 1-ton trucks. They were priced the same as their 1/2-ton. A 1-ton crew-cab, 6.0L, 4x4, long-bed, SLE package... was about $35K. That's the same price for their 1/2-ton version. If GM gets any more desperate, I may pick one up.

The vacation was nice. I got a tan, Mrs. Zoom got a nice burn and the kids came home as if they weren't in the sun much at all. That SPF 50 stuff works pretty good on them. The first week, we rented a house outside of Orlando. Big, beautiful place with its own pool (inground and inside a screened-in room). We spent most of the time at the pool doing a lot of swimming. We don't have a chance to get to water much so my kids got a late start on learning to swim. My son (who's 7) really beefed up his swimming skills and got past most of the fears (he doesn't need to hold his nose anymore; goes to the bottom of the deep end...). Too bad he's a "sinker".

After a week at the pool, we went over to Port Canavaral and caught a cruise to the Bahamas. The cruise itself was "just OK". The food wasn't as good as expected, the room was too small... but we made the best of it. Freeport isn't much of a place but we drove across the island and did a "swim with the dolphins" thingy. That was pretty neat. Nassau was the next stop and was much nicer. We spent most of our day at the Atlantis resort area (the one that does the commercials all the time). That place is incredible! Very nice hotels, aquariums and a bunch of very nice water rides. Some of the rides are by tube (which the kids liked) and others are where you lay down on a slide and just go. The bigger slides actually had you free-fall for a short period so I enjoyed those.

After the cruise, we returned to Orlando to check out the Nickelodeon hotel complex for a couple days. That was just OK. It may have been better if the kids were younger and more into the characters.

BC: Welcome back to the Forum. Sounds like you and the family had a nice vacation basking in the sun and spalshing in the water with the fish.

Also sounds likeeveryone else on the Forum is"fessing up" about what they have been up to lately. Congrats to all those new truck owners out there. My 2003 F-250 Super Duty 4x4 still runs great. (knocking on wood) although it loves to stop at gas stations along the way. However, I too have been busy. Well, sort of. I neededto buy a new toy, I mean tool. While a RTV 1100 is still at the top of the list, it was bumped by something else. It boileddown to one of those decisions of between "needs" and "wants". The RTV fell into the "wants" catagory. What cansay. What I really needed wasa backhoe. So now I have a new yellow (commercial grade) John Deere 110 compact tractor loader backhoe.Basically, itsa 43 hp Yanmar diesel with 72" loader bucket and an 18" backhoe bucket. So now the RTV 1100 sits allalone at the top of the "wants and needs" list. But.......... I gottarun now ---- I have holes to dig. LOL

Keifer, (still) a RTV wannabe

Congrats on your TLB!!!! Boy, nothing against the RTV but if I didn't have either, I'd get the 110 first myself. Luckily for me, all my friends and neighbors have either TLB's, skid-steers with backhoes or huge excavators. If my tractor with FEL can't do the project, I just borrow one of theirs to get it done.

Out of curiosity, did you look at the Kubota TLB offerings? I haven't followed the comparisons lately (in the past couple years) but the L48 (or it's little brother, the L39) were touted as being a runner against the 110.

Any commercial plans for it or are you just using for your own purposes?
