I have a 2004 RTV (one of the first 6500 made) that's in great shape and has low hours and "many" accessories.

Was offered $9K for it yesterday but didn't take it. Wondering today if I should have...

What I did was sell my old 04/05 machine at over 4000 hrs for cash(40 % of new price) and bought the 2011 RTV S package (chrome wheels and spray in bed liner ) added a plastic top and paid 12,700 before taxes. I paid some down and the rest at 0 % for 5 years. You are probably attached to it like I was my '05..... it will pass once you start climbing hills and ditches in H. Your extras are an asset for sure. Good Luck Zoom!!!!! bordercollie

why did you not take it?
Because it took me 5+ years to get this one to the way I like it. :)

He drove a demo Bobcat (3400 model?) over that a dealer dropped off for him to try out. He was thinking he could get that for $9K or my 8-year-old RTV for the same $9K and he knew my RTV would have been the better deal. The Bobcat is a re-badged Polaris Ranger.

I just bought a Honda Rancher ATV a couple weeks ago. Can't keep the kids off it so maybe I'll just keep my existing RTV and go get a couple more Ranchers or Rubicons (after I clear out some of the older, smaller ATVs) and a new RTV 500 or their new 400 so I have something to putt around on.

My RTV900 is likewise an 04 with less than 200 hours, heated hard cab and front mount hydraulic plow...If someone came along with $9k it would be in the back of his truck.

We would have paid 9k for a one with a cab and low hours in a heartbeat. An 08' Silver with 54 hours sold at auction near here for 10k + but once you added the 10% buyers premium and 8.5 sales tax, we figured new was better. And with the nice financing from Kubota it was hard to beat. RTV's are hard to find here in Cali, it looks like there are alot in PA and MI.

Before you buy the 500, make sure it will do what you really want it to do, hey maybe you could buy mine, I have 45 hours on it, haha. JH

My Dad has a 500. His works great so there's something not right with yours.

Oh, and that Bobcat, it's $10,500. I took it for a drive last night. There's something wrong with that particular machine. It was a dog (and no offense to the dogs). It had no get up and couldn't climb any hills. His wife was driving a gasser golf cart and she blew away the Bobcat from the start.

I agree. There is something out of adjustment if your 500 is having trouble climbing. My 500 will climb hills that are down right scary as long as I have traction. Of course that is in low 4wd and diff. locked. I have the stock atv tires and if it wont go it is because of mud and 3 tires are spinning, just don't have the traction.... These are hills that are muddy and steep enough that when I lift off the gas and put on the brake you slide down the hill 4-5 feet.

when i went to trade in my hpx i had all kinds of stuff extra battery extra lights extrxa fues panel 589 tires rops rack bed rails winch front and rear mount and radio and not to mention countless others yet they told me that they would give me less than 3k for it but if i took off all the stuff and put it back stok they would give me 3,500?? man what dummies. i drove it for another rear and sold it to the guy next doors friend for 4k without the winch. them dealers will rip you off blind if you let them it's better off to sell it outright and if you get the offer you want let-um-havit

9k zoom i would have took it and got a new one and started tricking it out to the way you wanted it again.i know you treat your machines right and i'm sure it was in great shape and anyone who would have bought it would have gotten a great deal on it.

does the rtv have a locking front diferential or does it still have limited slip. i rarrly use the fully locked dif on my rhino i normally keep it in limited slip. i do miss my old hpx with the limited slip and locking and unlocking rear dif my rhino stays locked up in the rear end and it just eats up the ground .

Looked at the newer RTVs and feel the quality has slipped considerably. Kubota has started to cut corners on materials and design and seems to want to ride along on past reputation. I will drive my 2004 until the wheels fall off and then put new ones on and repeat the process. IMHO all gasoline engines are now a gamble with the ethanol based fuels available today. The neighbor atvs have to be run run on mid to premium and are still having problems. Same for cars wheres the $$ advantage if you have to run premium (over diesel) and then have a forshortened lifespan.

Yeah Peanut, the RTV's still have the limited slip with a locking/unlocking rear diff. I wish the had made the front locking as well for going straight up hills. You would only use it if max traction was needed and for me that is straight UP the hill.

yea the only thing that locking front dif is good for is going straight . you need power steering to turn that thing when its locked thats why i don't use it.
