that should be just about prime by the time the season opens. They love the fresh green. Here are a couple that are hanging out behind my place and garden eating alfalfa.</p>
CKruse</p>and my momma allways told me money don't grow intreesbut it sure looks like you can get a truck to grow in a food plot. i guess the sooner you pick the truck that determins what you call it. for instance if you pick it when it's still small you'll probably end up with a toyota pickup and let it grow a bit more and you get the tundra. let it go to full term and you get a dodge with a cummins turbo.</p>

Great looking food plots. What are the best thing to plant? I know I am late this year, It has been on my to do list for the past 2 weeks. Been real dry here on the gulf coast. Was going to put the tiller on the tractor this morning and now ir raining. Go figure! We usally try and plant a small oat patch every year. Being so dry I will need to haul some water and soak the oats before spreading.</p>

Try to get your ph of 6.0 - 6.5 if possible >>>>if not, wait until next year to lime your ground, it's time to plant now !!!!</p>
My suggestion is to plant some lab-lab, brassicas ( Elbon rape, try to stay away fromdwarfessex rape if possible,but it's better than nothing )mustard , turnips, plant some clay & cow peas >>>> plantseveral variety of winter peas .... Dixie Crimson clover, a quick growing variety . Throw a little oaks in there for a snack as well ..</p>
No till: fair to good results can be obtained with no till. Burn down with Glyphosate or any other burn down herbicide (desirable but not critical), bush hog as low to the ground as possible
Fertilizer recommendations:</p>
Cover seeds with cultipacker or drag with RTV or four-wheeler .... Please don't cover up if you can help it, most people think that these seeds need to be covered. NOT SO >>> All you need is soil to seed contact and moisture, and the night time dew will even make seeds germinate !!!!

and 30-60 days later
Ammonia Nitrate ......................... 100 - 200 lbs.
NOTE: Do not mix seed and fertilizer in the hopper together. Broadcast seed, fertilize, and then cover.

Well most of that went right over my head. The rain quit about noon. We are due for more rain the next 2 days so I got busy,</p>
I tilled up about 5,000 sqft and put out 50lbs of race horse oats. That was at the back of my place. I still need to do the same out at the lease. I will have to ask around to find some of the other stuff. Will a country feed store carry most of those seeds.</p>

Ok, I out out a pre-packaged mix this moring that had 75% Elbon Rye (I guesss that was what you were calling rape) 19% Oats and the reat field peas. I put out what 13-13-13 I had left and will pick some more up later today. Looks like a few more showers this weeked so that will help.</p>

Nope, that rye is a grass, BUT , that'sgreat, you got it in there too.</p>
NOW, go pick you up some RAPE , and put out,you don't have to cover rape seedup. Soil to seed contact is enough.</p>
Even if you have to getthe essex rape, that will do,comes up like mustard and turnup greens . Deer goes crazy over it >>>>></p>

Up here they go for the white clover in the mix. Gotta get on them hogs or they will tear it up as fast as it gets going. If Two Guns and Tommy were doing their job down south we would not have them trying to take over in southern Pa. I don't worry about them making it up here on the NY border cause the Amish would have a field day with free pork.</p>

Our place backs up to the Trinity River Wildlife Refuge http://www.fws.gov/Refuges/profiles/index.cfm?id=21593 The section behind us is at least 5-6,000 acres of hardwood river bottoms, a hog and deer hideout. We cain't go in there to get them so we wait for them to come out. Most neighbors kill all the hogs they want. Its the deer I want to entice to our side of the fence. We have lived here over 20 years and at one time trapped hogs in the front yard. Lots more people out here now but still plenty of hogs also.</p>

juss get you a bottle of that new repellant it's called "TWOGUNS -IN-HEAT"man just a dab of that stuff on a tree trunk and them hogs go runnin. now the bad thing is the deer will group up so see who has a sweet smellin butt like that don't spill any on ya cause you likely to get raped by the wildlife before you get out the woods. and if you drop something by accident don't bend over to pick itup just leave it bee and get out of there as fast aspossible.dat stuff is potent</p>

LIke you, I believe our river bottoms are close to the same. Finding the seed. Look atALLyour co-ops, feed & seed suppliers, Farm suppliers, Any type of brassicas is what you need to get your hands onin your area. It's there, they might have to order you some. Try mustard greens>>deer likes that also, turnip greens is good in some areas ...</p>
Don't forget to try to find your rice bran. Don't buy the bran that comes in adern fancy back, you will pay three prices for it >>>></p>
