Rtv 1100 turbo issues

I put a turbo on my 1100 and right from the start I had the issue that are showing in the pictures. The turbo kit manufacturer says it is common for them to do it. The gasket is good and the screws are tight. It actually seems to be getting worse. I've been farming all my life and have. Been around turbo just as long and have never seen it. Anybody else have a turbocharged Rtv with the same issues.

That's what it is. There should not be any oil there. Could it be coming from any other place than the turbo.

Nope, it looks like it is seeping it from there.

Don't look like it's "blown oil", it looks isolated ....

....... two guns

Is this an area where you have an air leak?

Looks suspicious. Would not take much to make a mess.

My turbo was by SWAG on a RTV1100 09 version. Quite different.

Installed it myself and had no problems. Sold the unit last year.:pat:

Looks like you're slinging oil from compressor side (the cooler aluminum side) of turbocharger into the intake manifold tube. Disconnect charge air pipe and look at compressor blades and see if there's any oil or residue on blades. If there is, your compressor spindle bearing may be going bad. The bearing normally keeps engine oil fed into turbocharger for spindle and bearing lubrication seperated from both the compressor and the turbine wheels. When turbo compressor spindle bearings start to wear, oil can leak from the lubricated center of the turbocharger into the turbine side of unit into the exhaust as well. Are you burning any oil? Smell the exhaust. Is it pure diesel exhaust? Or is it diesel exhaust mixed with burning oil? You may also see some bluish and sometimes whitish smoke mixed with the black diesel exhaust if you're burning oil.
If you suspect you're burning any oil, examine the tubine blade outlet by disconnecting the exhaust pipe (not the exhaust manifold pipe) from the turbine side (the hot rusty side) of the turbocharger. If oil is leaking, you may see oil slung around in a spiral pattern just behind the turbine blades.

Just some thoughts for potential diagnosis...

While you're checking, determine whether there is any up and down or side to side movement of the compressor/turbine common shaft. Shaft should rotate freely, but there should be no significant movement of the shaft (spindle) away from it's long axis. Also, pass a (clean) finger or soft probe between the compressor blades towards the gravitational bottom inside portion of the round compressor housing to check for any oil pooled there. Good luck and let us know what you find.

6mm,

Not sure what happened to you. I was waiting to see what you found on your turbo inspection, but wanted to finish this post to be complete...

There are a couple of other possibilities to consider if you have oil on compressor side. First, if common shaft journal bearings are in good condition, restricted charge air flow to compressor can create a vacuum situation and "suck" oil from the lubricated center. So, you'll want to ensure air filter is clean, there is no obstruction in charge air pipe, and charge air pipe is not pinched or otherwise narrowed.

Oil can also be "pushed" from center section by high pressure created by too much oil flow or restricted oil return. In this scenario, you could potentially have oil on both the compressor and turbine sides of the lubricated center section, and therefore both burn oil in exhaust and sling oil into intake pipe similar to a bad bearing scenario.

Sorry for the late reply. I'll post some pictures of how clean it all looked to me. Swabbing my finger in pipe it seemed clean. It could be the dirty air filter LATiger was talking about. I cleaned it all up and put new filters in.
