Had a major boo boo today.Got a hanger while cutting down some trees.Hooked the cable to the bottom of the 100 foot free and figured in pull slide it out of there.Hit the pedal heard it moving so i thought all was ok.Then the damn bottom of the tree hit a stump and flopped right over on me and the Kubota. All I heard was a loud boom and my heart fell into my stomach.Im OK Kubots took a 100 foot free 6 inches in diameter and survived a direct hit. Roof is scared but hit where it connects to the rops and took the brunt of the fall.Thank god i didnt get hurt and no real damage to the mighty Bota.

Hokey Smoke Mark, that's got to be scary when you can't stop what's coming.

Even a 6" tree has a lot of weight so It speaks well for the rigidity of the ROPS.

Glad everything is OK, Bob

Thanks Bob I expected the roof to be cracked and the rops to be bent myself.
and yes 6 inch has way to much weight on it.

Man, Mark. You must be living right ! I'm really glad you are still with us . I always remember that scene on the old movie "Spencer's Mountain", when trees get the best of folks. Anyways, glad I'm not sending any memorials that way..... collie

God is definitely watchin out for YOU Bud..........That is the first of MANY hits that the super strong little machine can and will take for you.........God bless.......Dennis

Dang. Lucky lucky lucky. Yep, the big guy upstairs was sure watching out for you. :thumb: I'm only disappointed no pics. (I'm the worst at getting pics so not complaining ...).

Dang Mark. Glad you came out unscathed and for the most part, the RTV as well.

I cut down a couple 12" maples myself yesterday. They were between 2 buildings so I had to make sure they fell in the right direction. I used straps and pulled them the way I wanted with the winch.

Although I had the wireless remote with me and planned on using that, I had Mrs. Zoom in the RTV to used the wired controls if needed. I did tell her before we started that if the tree doesn't go where I planned and hits the RTV that under no circumstances is she to leave the cab. Your experience attests to that point.

Thanks all.You cant get rid of my old ass that easy lol.
Don't want to get rid of your old ass but we would appreciate a good wipe. Something tells me that there's at least a skid mark from when that tree hit the RTV.

Zoom trees are like kids they dont do as their told lol.
Doc no pics is called Plausible deniability this way you have NO proof on me being stupid. lol

good grief............. glad you are okay............. and the rtv too. some of us folks are getting way too old to be spending alot of quality time recouping from self inflicted injuries. soooooo all of y'all be careful out there.

Mark.,
First, best thank God for your life !!!
He is the only one that kept you here !!!
Two, Again, Thank God for not destroying your RTV !!!!

Glad your OK.
Scares me just thinking about it. Lost folks & friends in the logging woods. I know what they can do.
Trees / Logs don't have any mercy !!! Be careful !!!!

Mark: I'm glad your story has a happy ending. Coulda' been a lot worse.

Lemme ask you: what did you learn from this? I don't intend that question to be a smartass reply. I'm serious. If you had that job to do over, what would you do differently to avoid the events you experienced? Lotsa people get in lotsa trouble real fast when felling trees, and sometimes we compound the problems by trying to control their fall with our RTVs and winches. This could be a "teaching moment" for all of us.

Always have a 2nd set of eyes and if you hook onto a hanger hook as low as possible.Dont give a high hook a chance to walk up on you.

Words of Wisdom !!!!

There is many that has not had the chance to have learned from a mistake !!!
And I am saying this in Respect !!!

The whole situation is spooky !!!

Crazy how things happens. Don't hear of things like this, and when you do,
it just keeps a coming.
Best friend, who is a logger. Contacted me just this morning. Right after getting in the woods. He was on a dozer, clearing a path, pushed a tree, tree twisted acorss blade somehow
and when totally the wrong way. He is a professional logger. Didn't really get into details. Crushed his truck flat. One of his workers just
got out and was walking away from it when it happened.
God was there also !!!

Ya'll some lucky people !!!!

Logging is definatly a totally different Job.So many things can go wrong instantly.Ive been doing this for 30 plus years and have been lucky so far.(knock on wood).Back in the day I never wore a hard hat or a face shield or chaps.Till this day I still dont do chaps but to wear face and head protection while cutting.Ive seen easy jobs go from good to bad in a heart beat and seen many people in need of being sewed back up from kick backs its unreal.Dont ever do a Mark and work alone.I prefer not to but generally do as there is no one around here to give me a hand with anything so im kind of used to working alone. It may bite me in the ass eventually but ya have to do what you have to do to survive.Just be as safe as you can and always expect the unexpected in anything you do.Shit happens FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Mark, what kind of tree is 100 feet up there and only six inch diameter. We have Ukes out here, but I didn't think you have them back there????

Kobe we have a lot of red maples like that in our area. When the woods darkens up from foilage they just grow straight up to get light.Ive seen a lot of 2 and 3 inch diameter trees here get 50 to 60 feet tall.

Same here. Mature trees make a canopy and any new trees shoot straight up in an attempt to reach the sunlight. Happens with all trees in the middle of the woods. Trees near the perimeter don't have that fight so the get a better canopy on them.
