RTV 900 Starts, then dies

What would cause an RTV to start up then die? If I am quick to hit the gas pedal I can prevent it from dieing ...but I did not used to have to do that. I would turn the key and it would start.

Any ideas what might cause this issue?

Note, it only does this the first time the RTV is started for the day. After that it starts up normally, no foot on the gas pedal needed.

Doc, I experience this behavior with a tractor. The tractor issue I believe is associated with a fuel line leak allowing air into the fuel line.

In my case there is not an issue unless the tractor sits dormant for a few days. It will start then immediately shutdown, then I have to let the primer pump run for a minute, then it will start and run fine.

Of course, I could be totally wrong. Heck, I don't know if the RTV has such a pump.

Hi Doc, I agree with Pepr.
To me, it sounds like it is loosing it's prime. On tractors and the skid steer I have experienced this same thing. After attempting to crank, ,if it is real quiet outside, you may can hear a mosquito type noise at the culprit's weak, leaking or sucking spot..
If it were me, I would replace the fuel lines and clamps along with the fuel filter. That is the cheapest place to start anyway. You can take a piece of the fuel line to an auto parts store to size it, and just buy it in one piece at an estimated length and cut the length to fit . get some good quality clamps. bordercollie

You are losing fuel somewhere, check fuel line connections, check to see if you are losing fuel at the seals on the injector pump, they have taken the sulfur out of diesel fuel in Canada so we do not have no more lubrication in the fuel. The seals dry out now on the injector pumps, have had three injector pumps rebuilt in 4 years.

Good idea Mark. Are the RTV fuel filters anything special that you have to get from Kubota? Mine is an 06.

Actually, the the el cheapo ones at any parts store are equal to the ones that I get from my K dealer.........Good luck........God bless.........Dennis

Thanks Dennis. :thumb:

Well, I kinda tested the theory by pumping before starting and sure nuff it started right up and stayed running. I'll get to the lines and filter soon.

Thanks again all!!!!!
