I am posting a picture of the 60 gallon spray rig I use along with my helpers. I really don't let them ride when I am spraying because I don't want them to get "drifted". I average about 5 mph and do a swath of 28-30'. It really doesn't seem to take long and with the headphones on,tuned to songs of my early yrs , I roll right along and only stop to refill or when the wind gets too high. I love that power steering on the RTV .It makes such a difference in handling..I am also going to post a picture of the strainer I added to the sprayer . I got it for less than $20 No more stopped up spray tips in the field !! The RTV is great for this job. The spray rig seems to just float along behing the it. The strainer has a fine screen and has saved me a ton of grief already . It is abought 4 " long and a snap to add to the line. Bordercollie</p>

By the way, a while back in a post I mentioned the old smokehouse on this place that was made into a well house.... well that is it in the background. I wish I could have seen it in the old days. bordercollie: hard to believe you are spraying in march! we are just now getting rid of the snow. was down in florida to see new granddaughter last week and saw fellas around Ocala rolling up hay bales. that does not start till mid june up here. wife is wanting me to build her a greenhouse so she can get early start on planting. You have green grass coming while we are hunting for more hay and baleage to feed. most gardening does not start till may up here. nice sprayer setup behind the bota. I know what you are saying about the spray tips clogging up. the labels always say "avoid skin contact" but how can you get them cleaned out without handling them. used to carry a bucket of water to wash hands with on the tractor. hit a big rut and it would slop on me and the tractor so I just got by with a rag. I have two jacks but only one will ride along with me. the old shepherd still goes sometimes.</p>
 
Thanks , They are good pups and hard to believe almost 9.!! I point to a cow or whatever and the one standing will go to that animal. the other tries but doesn't quite get it right and usually herds the wrong way.But, she does try..... The spray rig will make a difference this summmer when weeds aren't there to compete for moisture with the grass. Grazon is $90 a 2 1/2 gallon jug. I can put out 3 pts of it in 10 gallons of water per acre and control most weeds for most of the summer. The RTV is great for this use and so fuel efficient. It costs a lot more to clip pastures..plus the grass gets the benefit of soil nutrients to itself. Bordercollie</p>

Tommy and Muleman, Thanks . I now carry a bag of those medical gloves (latex ones}. For such occurances and dirty ,greasy jobs.They "dry rot " real quick so I don't carry many at a time. Yea, Animals are nice to have around ... They still like you even if you mess up and when they put that head on your lap... well how could ya not feel better ?..... I broke up the garden today and used the RTV to "do all" it. Now if it could just do rows.On gardening, years ago, I made a "warm frame" using an old storm door horizontally at a diagonal for the top. and plastic sheeting for the sides . It was easy to keep warm being so short and at night , a light bulb kept it warm . Best plants I ever grew...... On spraying, that Grazon will kill cotton plants and tomatoes by just drift , depending on weather conditions, up to 2 miles are possible. I have to finish spraying by early April or else Anyway ,I am glad to have winter done with too. Thanks again, Bordercollie</p>
 
Very impressive spray set up, Bordercollie! And fascinating to hear you describe your use of the RTV--which looks lovingly cared for, by the way. And what a lovely old smokehouse! It oozes character.</p>


Hard to imagine gardening at this point in our neck of the woods. I think it is June before we can be safe from frost.... Mind you, by then we have nearly 24 hours of daylight. But for now we have lots and lots of snow. Yesterday we got 4-5 inches with high winds, so parts of the road were solidly filled with drifting. So I spent most of the day on my RTV, using the snowblower to clear the road and getting used to the quirks and ways of both machines. Love the Kubota! And snowblower is proving its worth, to be sure. Will post pics later.</p>

man onfoot the more you talk about the snow the colder i get here i am talkin to you about snow and i walk outside and see my flowers bloomin and it's 70 degrees man it's nice and computers are nice too. if it wasn't for computers i wouldn't meet all these fine people from around the globe. i remember back in the day we would worry about dialing long distance and now here we are talkin to a guy in the yukon and a few more on other websites in greenland and iceland man this is a wonderfull world ain't it. </p>

back to the smokehouse i notice the guy in town has a bbq smoke house thing goin but i notice he has diferent kinds of wood outside do you have to use hicory or can you use any type of wood?</p>
 
you know what they say a pet will add5 years to your life thats why i went out and got 5 of them hell i don't plan on dying any time soon.</p>
 
Good morning, would you please tell me more about the implements you use on your rtv to plow your garden. Have a 1100, but had to rent small tractor to work a friends garden. I could not figure out how to plow with 1100. Thank you.</p>
 
Tommy We use a lot of sasafras to smoke with. You can use just about any wood. I cut thin wafers about 3-8 inch thickx4 inch dia. with the chain saw and save the sawdust and slices in a feed sack. when I want to smoke I get hot coals from the wood boiler and put these in the flue liner buried in the ground. wet the slices and sawdust with water so they smolder and cover the coals and seal off the door. need to replenish coals and chips every 3-4 hours. I find using wood that is still green helps a lot to keep it smoldering. Bill</p>
 
The only thing I could use the RTV for was "do all" ing it. It is an old garden site so I took the skid steer in there and used the dirt bucket bucket to open it up. and added some composted manure. Then I backdragged with the bucket teeth , It looked rough, so I dragged my homemade "do all "over it with the RTV and it looks as smooth as a politican talking..I wish it would plow without a lot of add ons. I would think that the hydraulics could be harvested with some kind of hookup so it could be done though. I know they make implements for those little lawnmower tractor rigs and they don't even have hydraulics. My space is too small to bring in the big tractor....On the smokehouse, Before the house(1842) was restored ,it sat in a different place ,had a lot of ventilation and a dirt floor. Now as a well house , it is all sealed up from the elements.Part of the massive "hog killin" tree is still in the side yard. A tornado and Katrina has about finished it. There is still an old hoist hardly peeking out of the bark on one of the limbs. I like the flavor of hickory or pecan when I smoke meat in the smoker we have. Good Luck Friends, Bordercollie</p>

i have a small blueberry farm. i just purchased it last week.looking for ideas on attaching a single spray nozzle to the side of it where i can spray close to my berry plants.</p>
