Listening to my computer guru last night (Leo Laporte - TWIT), he talked about Java being one of the best entry points for "problems" and recommended removing it if you don't need it and unless you are gaming you probably don't.
His podcasts are easy to find, so you could reference yesterdays program if necessary.
Personally, I bought a Chromebook last year and do most all my web surfing with it. Best $250 I've spent on computers. I do use Win 8.1 for the tasks that require installed programs.
The chromebook is fast, starts in seconds and surfs rapidly with no issues like we are discussing because it can't open .exe files or any others for that matter. It has apps to do most computer functions but it hard (impossible???) to infect. Bob
Thank you Avanti guy. I am "chunking "it. Just now, I couldn't browse pictures from the post I was making here.. done it a hundred times before... until now. it just isn't responding to my browse click, but for a blink.. Thanks again, collie
with the east coast storms tonight routing may be an issue. All I can say if if you know how to set up a static ip on your pc do so.Statip will allow you to add your prefered dns servers.I havnt had any issues here at all but thats not to say it can happen.I do have a static ip set for my pc and my own dns servers added. Some dns servers play nice and some dont.
I agree on disabling Java. That's what I do. Sorry I did not think of that yesterday.
I also saw a job I run on the half hour. One line in that script 'might' cause contention for users, so I disabled that line just to be sure I am not impacting connections. That might help a few of you if that was your issue.
Java has its pros and cons.A lot of things still require java.I know a lot of things i deal with especially gameing needs java. Some of the info and charts on my site for weather requires java. The good thing is you can always just disable it when you surf sites that you are unsure of.Then re enable it for the sites you know and trust. Can be a pita sometimes but you have to do what you have to do. Jave is old school but is still in use by many things and dont think it will ever die or go away. The other option is to use 2 different browsers that allow you to change settings.I use chrome for gameing as its nice and fast. Firefox for security and superbird as a fall back. I dont like internet exploder but a lot really like it and yes it is secure but i personallly just dont like the layout of it.Having a good firewall always helps but can be a bear to configure properly.
Damn here i go getting all longwinded again.THis is 2ce this weel im on a roll . lol
Every thing is working fine now. Read all of the new posts. Then went and read some older threads to make sure all is well. Then came back to this thread in order to say every thing is working. Don't know what you did Doc, but it must have done the trick. Thanks.
