sluggish transmissin rtv900

I'm new and i must confess i just joined because i just picked up a rtv900 with a trans issue. when you first start it and put it in gear and try to go it just free revs. if you hold the throttle down it will finally take off and go but has very little pulling power. it still just about throws you through the windshield when you stop so I'm thinking the swash plates are ok. also the pump makes a lot of noise when it finally takes off and the fluid on the dipstick is really foamy. the filters and fluid have very few hours on them. where should i start before i pull it out and replace the pump. thanks for the help in advance

Welcome to the forum!

What type of fluid was used? The RTV is very picky and if you used anything but their UDT product, it could cause problems.

Agree with Zoomie.....Flush what ever is in the transmission and put some Kubota branded UDT in along with fresh filters and take from there.

....and welcome to the forum.

All of the above advice is right on...........I really don't care what the dealer had to say but; yes, it costs a bit of money but drain the stuff, replace the filters and put in Kubota Super UDT2............God bless.......Dennis

Agree with my brothers. also, "never trust nobody" doing the work on your stuff..check behind 'em if you can... A Honda dealership put the rear brakes on one of the bro in laws car- incorrectly... happens too often folks. Make sure the filters on right too.. My neighbor farmer had some fool that put transmission fluid in his tractor engine...
My transmission has always hesitated a tiny bit on takeoff but then swwwish she is gone. But what year model do you have??

Anybody have some real advice? I've been using this dealer for the past 10 years. I know all the techs by name and they know me. They aren't a bunch of retards like y'all are implying.

They said they'd have to open it up. The PO didn't want to pay them to do it and I don't live there anymore. It started acting up before the fluid change BTW.

if the oil is correct and the filters are correct. i would check all linkages between the throttle and the hydrostat. I would check the pressure with some gauges before i pulled the pump. then i would suspect the unloader valve"if it has one" and any bypass that could be malfunctioning and causing cavitation. also check the lift on the bed and make sure it isn't stuck in float.

Real advice? So, you didn't like our advice of changing the oil and filter?

OK, here's some real advice.
A) Take it to your wonderful shop and have them tear it apart at your expense.
- or -
B) How about you take a look at this thread. www.nettractortalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15930
Exact same situation of what you have. Oil and filters to the rescue.

If it ends up being option B, well, I guess we did give you real advice.

What year RTV are you dealing with? I have one Kubota dealer who does not see the value in Super UDT and will not carry it. Each dealer has his own quirks.
...and the throwing you on your nose when letting off throttle is normal. You learn to ease off the throttle. On hills it's a feature. Other times it can get very annoying. I hated it at first. Got used to it though, no prob.

Ok,so I gotta butt in here on this "advice thread". I say take that RTV back to the dealership and say,"fix this darn thang".

I know I'm no mechanic by a long shot. But, ya know, last week I went down to the local parts store and asked them for an adjustable metric cresent wrench and that counter guy didn't even look up but tells me they are on back order. Well, I know that you can pick one up at the K-Mart any day of the week. So, I was going to ask him for a muffler belt bearing but I figured, what the heck did he know. So, I just went home and made better use of my time watching re-runs of the View on the TV. Hows that for some sage advice :bsflag2:

Here is your real advise.

You bought it as is knowing it had tranny issues.

Tranny in a rtv is the most expensive part of the rtv.

It would cost the dealer more to fix it than its worth so you bought it.

Since your time is free....take it all apart clean everything.....replace parts as needed.....hope the parts don't cost a fortune....put back together and hope it works.

Then you have a good rtv.

Simple fix.

You mean they did NOT have an adjustable metric wrench instock and it was on back order????Thats something any local hardware would have! If you need 1 Ill send you 2 or 3 from my stock they were only $79.95 each and ill pay shipping.

When you purchased the machine from them did they come up front and tell you it had tranny issues? Any reputable dealer would have told you.If Not Id be dropping at back by their shop and stop payment. But if they were up front and told you it had issues then thats on you im sorry to say.

Really don't know how to respond to a deal like this NOW.........Is the OP for real?....Have we tried to help???....YES for sure with all kinds of advice.............Does the OP want someone to drop what they are doing and miraculously show up at his place with a magic fix?..........Perhaps if the OP fills out his info about himself a bit, someone might actually do that as someone perhaps, is close by.............

I truly don't see any of us being rude. Yes, perhaps a couple of folks are a bit heavy on the sarcasm; but not offensive. I guess, there comes a time when we do our best and perhaps it just isn't good enough for some.........God bless........Dennis

This is all I'll say and I'm done. We are each just trying to help you figure this thing out...
Kubota Super UDT2 Universal Trans-Hydraulic Fluid Information. ... It has excellent anti-foaming properties that guard against cavitation of pumps and loss of ... " that is a Kubota quote off of a search I did.....
"anti- foaming" ..... and yours is "really foamy" hum...before I would buy an expensive pump etc ..I would check this first, it being the cheapest.. by just asking them . .. My final thoughts on it. Have a good evening.

I would still bite the bullet and do a full fluid change on tranny oil and all filters.Everyone makes mistakes and may have tried to get away with some cheap hydro fluid.Id personally start there.Ive never seen my fluid get foamy at all even when it was broke down.BUt if you do it i strongly recomment use only Kubota super udt 2 hydro oil and kubota filters. This machine is kind of finiky on fluids and i would only use what is recomended for it.Sometimes trying to save a buck leads to expensive repairs later down the line.I do all work myself to be sure its done right and even then i have made stupid mistakes like changing oil and refilling it only to find i forgot to change the filter OOPS i looked at it as being a good oil flush.Good luck on it and keep us informed on what you figure out on it.

Regards

Mark

If you decide to go the route of changing filters/fluids, Messicks is (another) good dealer. They have excellent tech support, good prices and quick service too.
