Spark Arrestor and new member

New member to this forum and new (to me) RTV900 owner. (2008)

After reading TWO GUNS post on arrestors, I thought I'd introduce myself and share my findings on my arrestor.
I recently bought my rig used with 143 hours on it. My manual shows an external arrestor on end of tail pipe, so I wasn't even sure mine had one 'til I read TWO GUNS post in this forum.
My rtv now has 163 hrs.. Screen was probably 7/8ths blocked with carbon. 2nd picture shows only open part. Cleaned up and re-installed in just a few minutes.
I'm sure this will have positive affect on performance but hopefully also on temp.
A while ago I took the wife for a 4 mile trip to show her what her money bought for us, and noticed temp gauge rising to midpoint after a few minutes at max throttle. After slowing speed down temp came down. Time will tell, I guess.
Before I de-nut this feature I'll probably wait and check it after 30 or 40 more hours. Manual says to clean every 100 hrs.

Thanks to all who make these forums work and help us new owners out.

Welcome aboard RealTree, good to see your "keeping it clean". I hope you enjoy your time here as much as I have and get many useful hours out of your RTV.

Hi Jeff, welcome to net tractor talk. I'm glad you found us and joined up.

Congrats on your RTV. I know the feeling as I just bought an 06 RTV900 in Dec. Can't wait for warmer weather so I can use it more. Mine already had the sparc arrestor removed.

These are awesome little powerhouses.
Enjoy and post often. :thumb: :tiphat:

Thanks for the comments, The RTV is definitely a little workhorse. I describe it more as a mini truck than a UTV.
For you guys like Mark who have removed the arrestor, have you noticed any difference in performance or noise. Pros or cons.
Doc, I'm also waiting for spring also, got a list started of things to do with the little beast and also looking forward to taking the doors off too!

JEFF

My modified spark arrestor has been on for 110 hours, more power and a little more noise. I will pull it out when the outside temperature goes up and inspect. no muffler cracks as it is supported like the original.

Welcome to the best forum around Realtree. Like Moosejaw says, the new style spark arrestor needs support so be sure not to alter the length. The stub fits in the muffler through a "baffle" in the interior . This keeps it balanced so the tailpipe isn't putting a lot of weight on the muffler's face where it bolts on. It will crack there otherwise. I altered the screen somewhat on my second muffler to allow more flow but did not alter the length. Good Luck and let us know about the temperature if it is still a problem. bordercollie.

Thanks for the info about not just cutting it off. I can see how easy that would be to do.

I found the pictures of Moosejaw's fabbed arrestor.
Very nice job!

My 04 rtv came from the dealer w/o any spark arrestor. Then one day the dealer called & said one was required so, they came to house & installed one - it consisted of a 2 inch piece of folded screen that they shoved up the tail pipe & a cap (w/ a little set screw) over the end of the tailpipe to hold it in. They also made some modification to the hood latch. After reading Two Guns post I checked mine. The cap was gone, probably due to all the vibration. The little piece of screen was still there but, all of sudden it to fell out & into the trash can.
