Tailgate Rattle

I love the simplicity of the tailgate latch system on the RTV's - It would be nice to have one latch to work rather than two - but the simplicity of the present system is nice in that it won't break or fail over time. BUT, on my new machine there is a slight rattle when it is closed. The slot for the latch pin is just slightly larger than the pin so when the gate is closed the entire gate moves about an eighth of an inch back and forth. While not a terrible annoyance there is an easy fix! I placed a 3/8 inch piece of heat-shrink tubing over the pin and heated it. I left 1/8 inch of the round end of the pin clear of the heat-shrink so it won't interfere with the retraction process. The gate is now silent when closed.

Good thinking. :tiphat:
I think I might have a similar rattle but I'll have to take the wife for a ride to be sure. My hearing sucks.

My X1140 has all kinds of rattles in the bed from various sources. I LOVE the machine and the versatility but due to the way they have to make it work it just has some rattles. Fortunately mine was lined by the dealer and due to their process it at least latches tight. That said I love ingenuity like this and will remember it for if or when the tailgate rattle starts. Great Job finding a solution!

Mine rattles, and it's pretty loud. A lot of times I just leave it down.

I'll have to try your fix when it warms up. Thanks

We are all hilarious…Industrial- Off Road -Utility vehicle owners who worry ourselves about a little rattle back there on the tailgate…:ROFLMAO:

Yes - a bit fanatical - this is what happens during retirement when I'm looking for things to do during the winter between snow storms! Once spring arrives things will change and I won't have time to let such things bother me!

I tried a trick I read some have done, using rubber fuel line on it, but my bedliner is sprayed on too thick. So I just did a couple wraps of electrical tape and that did the trick. Never even thought of shrink tube.
