THE " Funnel "

TWO GUNS

Senior Member
This is a picture of what isleft in theMr. Funnel, out of 2.94 gallons of diesel, using the Mr. Funnel to top off the RTV this evening .....

Pulled the diesel out of the " farm fuel tank " at the local truck stop here out of town. This WAS a empty, dry, one pint water bottle. The color must be the die used to mark " untaxed fuel " ~~~~~ Looks to be a about 40% full of water. We even tried to run it back threw the Mr. Funnel, and the thing would NOT let this go threw it ....

I would say it's water, can't be anything else, what ever it is , the funnel will not allow this to go threw it. It might be something else, but it don't belong in the fuel, that is for sure. Feels like water and not " greasy " like diesel ~~~

NOPE, have not done the taste test, will let some other member do this >>>>

Tommy,

Got you aanswer >>>

NOPE, it tried, burned a little, but finally went out ....

I put diesel on anotherrag, and it burned ...

Then, I put "that water / stuff " on one and diesel on another, fired the corners of the rags at the same time, when thefire hit "the spot" where a substance was on it, the diesel slowly picked up and burned all up, the"other", it tried but went out fizzled on out ><>>>

Being somewhat educated in diesels by having run p/u's for 20 years I do know that the fuel can get alegy in it if it sit for a long time. I would only buy fuel where a lot of it was sold so I know that the the u/g tanks were fresh. You should have taken it back to the t/s and asked about it.

Does this device work for gasoline and pre-mix that you use in 2 cycles?.....I tend to leave my gas cans out in the woods with the splitter when working on a tree rather than dragging it back and forth. The cans get covered with condensation and crud from sawing and splitting. Would be great to have one and just make it part of the "kit"...........Dennis

buying fuelat a place that sells alot of it is in some way good and in most ways bad. they i watched a show that gave good points in this thing and they proved that a place that sells lots of gas/deisel is 50%more likely to have contaminates in it because the trash settlesto the bottom of the tank but as soon as the delivery truck comes and fills the tank it stirs up all the trash on the bottom and it ends up in your tank. they said it's best to find a store that sells a medium supply of it meaning it ain't a car magnet and there really ain't alot of people buying fuel there. another thing they said is to never ever stop and fill up your car/truck when you see the big rig refilling up the tanks at the store you might think your getting good gas but your getting alot of the trash from the bottom of the tank. they also say try to fill up your car in the morning time because fuel is more compacted and it swells with the rising heat of the day. they done test and it proved that you will get a bit more fuel by doing this and not filling up in the afternoon time.as for as the algea i think it's not gonna grow in a totally dark tank algea needs light thats why they insist that if you have a fresh water tank to hold your water you need to paint it black so algea won't grow in it. now some places store their fuel in them frosty white containers and they will let light in and the fuel will go bad alot faster than it will in an underground black tank.[quote user="Deerlope"]

I agree Tommy. All that sludge in the bottom of our bulk tank was stirred up for a while every time it was refilled. What I collected when cleaning the tank was all blackish-- then after it had time to settle was nice and red.(The remains of stuff on the bottom of the empty tank was stirred up when I lifted it with the skid steer.) I noticed that my favorite store Amazon has the Mr Funnel FC3 for 19.99. Just to mention a price for comparing. How long does it take for the fuel to go down one of these? Like if fueling a 60 gallon tractor? We use a hand crank pump but it takes about 350 revolutions to fill an empty tank. Thanks Bordercollie

The model # denotes the flow rate, the F15C flows 15 gpm and the F8C flows 8 gpm. I bought a 55 gal barrel of off road diesel at the JD dealer to save a few cents by not having to pay the tax at the pump, 5 fuel filter later, I bought a Mr Fuel and I've changed filters twice since I got the funnel because I put some in, thinking it was clean, without using the filter. I read somewhere if you use Power Service that you need to add it after it goes through the funnel as the funnel can separate out the additive if used in the storage tank. Money well spent, get the biggest you can use.

Thanks for the info on the Mr. Funnel Fuel Filter. I ordered one today from Amazon. Should get it in 5 -9 days.

Thanks again for the info.

I learned a number of years ago that don't use fuel additives with #1 diesel - for some reason pure #1 does not like to be mixed with any type of additive. If you read some of the additive labels it says that you not not mix with #1. For you guys in the south, you probably don't need to worry!!!!!!!!! jerry

Thanks for the flow info milkman. I just may have to get one next month after I get over my large yearly filters and fluids order from Messicks.(I also got that ignition switch.). Amazon is one of my favorite stores, because it is so easy to order stuff and have it shipped to anyone.. I may order a few of these for Christmas presents too. One question though, must you hold it by hand to keep it from bouncing out as you pour or crank the fuel thru it or does it snug down and stay in place? Bordercollie

I use the one I got to fuel my BX2200 and the ZD21, the opening is big and the funnel sets in them nicely, I don't have to hold mine, don't know if the RTV fill is on the top of the tank or slanted to the side, if slanted, you might have to hold it or use a bungee strap.

Thanks, The RTV filler is sort of slanted but the worse part (which makes getting to the cap not so easy if ya have big hands or a bad cap)) is that it is sort of recessed. Now the big tractors are on top .. I imagine I would need to adapt my fill nozzle or it would come out. It is a 90 Degree pipe on heavy hose and the gas is a straight pipe on the same hose . I hope they will make an in line filter one day for bulk users. Thanks again, back to work after a late lunch... Bordercollie

How about doing the filtering from the bulk tank into a 5-gallon can which then gets dumped into the RTV?
