The Other White Meat

Yep, you got it going your way Uncle Doug,

MIght start thinking in terms of traps if they are only showing up at night. Hogs will really ruin a place. Mess up a good deer hunting area~~~

Set some snares, or flash-bangs to try to get rid of them !!!!

Been looking at traps, thinking about building one. Got lots of the 4"x4" panel wire left over from the goat raising days. Need to come up with a gate of some sort. Most around here have been traping them for years. I remember trapping them up in the front yard 20 years ago. Not going to get rid of them with 1000+ acres of Wildlife Refuge next door. I googled up several pen type traps where you can catch more than one at once. Don't know what I would do with more than 1 or 2. Most processing plants around here will no longer take them.

Yes sir , build that trap, and build it big enough for many. You have several options when you get them, therearemany folks that will get them off your hands. Option is yours of course, but you can always transport them, cut the boars, do the catch, move, and release thing. Look into some of the needy people in your area, elderly folks, if you have some sort of Childrens home like we do, Churches, or homeless shelters of some sort. Cooler weather showing up, the hogs can be transported somewhere, if some folks want to deal with this matter >>>>

In my case, in the summer months, feed them to the gators !!!! Best disposal machine mother nature has. Might be why I have someof the biggest gators some folks has ever seen ..... Been waiting for some of my gators to have a big pair of " tusk" growing from them other than the other zillion of toothies they have .... ( smiling )

In the cooler months, we give many hogs away to folks who can use them.

Jamie, do y'all ever have problems with the lens on your camera's fogging up? on several of ours the photos early in the night look clear but very late or early am it's like a heavy fog. You can make out something that tripped the camera but can hardly make it out. There has not been much fog around here. I leave for work every day about 4:15 am and no fog. I think it's related more to the change in temperature or humidity.

I moved the camera futher back under the tree line to see if that helps.

It happens to theALL CAMERA'S, from the cheaper models to the most expensive,Mr. Fog willshow up in them !!!!

No foggy pictures this time around but I did get a picture of this guy. We also trapped a female hog last night. Larry my son-in-law said it was about 125 lbs.

Me & the grandson Tyler were gone bay fishing this morning in upper Galveston Bay with a fishing guide.

That is exactly why I carry the .45 in a shoulder holster with me at all times !!!! Hunting, scouting, working the woods, changing camera's, everything.

Killed many of mean wild boar hogs thew the years with that weapon. Many of them, within a few feet at full charge !!! Secret is, don't panic, stand your ground, aim true, and squeeze !!!!

Well we figured out have to get these guys to show up before dark. Just dump your fish heads out 3-4 hours earlier. These are our first daylight photos of the hogs.

Put everyone to work today building the new hog trap including the granddaughter. The RTV is a real workhorse. Hauling heavy loads of supplies, a barrel of water and 300lbs of redimix cement for the posts. Hauling all this through several deep and long mud holes where the 4 wheeler had some problems. Got all the posts set in concrete before the expected rains tonight.

I've been told for years from some seasoned 'ole hunters from the swamps. If a man has a boar that out-smarting folks, or has just got wish to the traps,do thefish thing, the hogs can't resist it .....

Earlier this week we sat out there by the trap to see if any were still coming out early. This guy showed up about 5:20 pm and never knew what hit him. Just a guess but we think he was about 150 pounds.

Moved the game camera out to the lease last week. We went out to check on the feeder and look around a little. there were only 2 pictures. Had a doe stop by yesterday at the feeder or what was left of it after the coons knocked in over.

This guy stopped by last night cold trailing the doe. Either that or he was looking for some more peanut butter.

Starting to put a small dent in the hog population around here. Went to check the new pen trap this morning and found these 3. Sonin-law came over to help clean and had a couple of friends wanting some pork to mix with their deer meat. I ended up with enough pocket change out of the deal to maybe buy a real feeder.

Two Guns, How long can your Cudde Back camera's go on a set of batteries. The first set of Duricell went about 3-4 weeks, Next set only about a week. Maybe I just got a run down set the second time around.

Have you tried to use rechargeable batteries in your camera's?

Have you fitted any of yours with a external battery & solar cell?

TheExpert Cuddebacks will go threw twice the batteries as the Capture models ...

The more pictures, the less the battery life will be, we can expect that to happen.

On average, with the Capture model, we get about a 2 -3 weeks of good running pictures. When the deer is really moving., we will get on average of two weeks..... That is fair to say >>>>>

NOW, let me say this, just like you, you will run into some times where either the batteries were not #1 shape to begin with, or the little " gremlins" of the woods eats the battery life up. I just don't know.

I have not tried the rechargeable battery in the cameras. But I was told, that rechargeable batterys loose about 8 - 10%of their power, per day, just sitting there .... Don't know if this is a fact or not ...

Never fitted solar cells, bet it would work good >>>> worth a try !!!!
