Tire Time Again

That is what I needed to hear! I was already concerned about their weight and effect on the machine. I will consider the surefoots out of the picture. Thank you Tommy for all the research. I am deeply considering Two Guns comments on the 26" 589's. I think I will go that route. Should I tear them up , I will just go for the oem grips but hopefully before then, I will have a small tractor to take some of the spraying hours off of the RTV. I may just have to wimp it out and spray in the a/c with the 7210 tractor so I can pull more water mix.. I acutally prefer the open air and a shorter to the ground smaller tractor but.... if it wasn't for the size of the water tank restricting me , I would always ,always use the RTV with a set of good grips.. How much air do you keep in your rear 589's? Thank ya'll again. Bordercollie

Bordercollie, the 589's are in the shop now, I will go measure the air tomorrow and let you know >>

I just saw where you posted how ya'll's air pressure was running. Sorry For the mix up. It has been a long week. I am going to see my folks this weekend as my Dad is not doing well. I had to bring that old "ugly" jd 332 mower home to replace the fan belt for them.. I had to remove the radiator to get at that coupling . Then I noticed how bad the radiator was and so on and on. Got that done.. We are finished with the concrete work too so I will be ordering tires either tomorrow or first of the week as rain is forcast and I need mud tires since the RTV will be playing an important part of the farm again... Thanks , Bordercollie

Bordercollie, please don't apologize. You've had your hands full !!!! We will keep your Dad in our prayers.

As always, if there is anything we can do, just holler, we are always here !!!!

........ Mr. & Mrs. Two Guns

i ran 17lbs all the way around on my 589's and like twoguns says stay with the 26" they have the same treaddept but they are just a 1/2 inch shorter on the tire hieght and the rtv will turn them real easy.

i don't think you will tear them up because i would constantly haul 1000lbs laods in my hpx and they never had any tread tear off .

I agree with youTommy, for we haul the bed full, and also pulls a trailer loaded with fourbarrels of corn all the time .....

That's much weight, don't care where you are from ....and I alsoknow the trailer is carrying all the weight, but havepulled the trailer as much as six barrels of corn, when needed , each barrel ( 55 gal drum )weight is right at 350 lbs each if I'm not mistaken. Now, add trailer , back of Kubota full of suppliment and items for the deer, tools, timers, etc ..etc ....Me and my healthy butt, that is a load. Now, I don't go " zippin" threw the woods and swamps like a Indy car or anything . But our RTV is strong, and the 589's carry us threw it well.

Now in the winter months, as most here already know, we do deer management. And have been known to fill the bed of the machine with deer and wild hogs, ( thanks to our bonafide deer & hog loader )and the Kubota never knows anything is back there, don't care how muddy it is, it just putts on threw >>>>

DO NOT GO WITH 27" 589 TIRES, you will regret it. I had them on my rtv and sold them and got the sure foots. The 27" tires are too big, not because the rtv can't handle them but because it messes with the gear ratio and you loose lots of torque. When I had the 27 589 tires on you had to way over inflate them to hold any kind of load, and with a load I could not back up a hill. I put the stock 25" tires back on and had no problem backing up the same hill with a load. As for how the sure foots ride I can not tell you yet. I have yet to put them on the rtv. Been doing a lot of work around the yard and the sure foots like the 589 chew up the ground. I can tell you these tires are tough though very stiff side walls. Stay with the stock tire size if you can, Just my 2 cents.

I have no problem with the loads. I do put a little more air in them though. The only reason Idone the 27" was to get the machine off the ground a lilttle more for running in the swamps. And yes, one looses a little torque, butnot enough ( in my case ) to worry about.I can tell a differance in " H " gear, which is a road running gear anyway. But in theother " L " & " M" , really cannot tell any lost. But I putt - putt in the swamps so much, really does not matter in my case. But like I said, if I had to do it again,I'd go with the 26 inchers, just for more clearance from the tire to the front fender situation, but yet, it has not caused me any troubles.I would go with the 25 inchers if the ground clearance wasn't in the picture.

TheSurefoots, is a great tire, but they ride so ruff for me.We have aman down here that uses his RTV's for hunting and construction ( 4 total ) , and at one time, he installed the surefoots ontwo of his machines, and within a week, removed them for reason ofthem shakin', beating, him and the machine to death. That is the reason HE said heswitched to something else, which was the 589's. And after running in his RTV with the 589's, is when I madeour purchase of the 27 inchers for our unit. That's been 2 1/2 years ago, and we still work ours very hard and run the heck out of them. But I will say again, the Surefoots are a great tire, but they are just not for me ....

the one thing i forgot to mention is armorall you need to use lots of itthat stuff keeps all the hoses and plastic new looking and plyable . i would and i still do it on my rhino after i wash it i spray the whole unit down with armorall and i really soak the cv boots and tires down really good there are two good advantages of doing this the first one is it keeps the rubber in a new fresh bendable form and it won't dry out and crack on you the second is if you spray the whole unit down meaning eveything engine under the hood i mean every part it will be so easy when you go to wash the mud off that you will be askin why didn't i use this before. plus the oil they have in the armorall it hepls out on the springs and other stuff too.one other thing is don't go no smaller than a 26" tire because they only start the deep lugs at 26"and all the tires below 26"have a 3/4"tread or 1" tread

oh i forgot one other thing if you want amore secure way of not getting a flat you should look into them tire balls alot or should i say all them cross country bike runners use them plus they use them in the utv's that race too they are pretty neat things and will save you on flats for a while.

Does anyone know if the 27 x 9 x 12 ona factory rim will fit the RtV 1100...Want to buy the Bighorn...started another thread on this subject, it appears the the 27" tires fit, but most everyone uses aftermarket wheels which probably have a different offset.

Does this tire/wheel combo require a lift kit?

Does the lift kit cause the vehicle to be top heavy?

Help I am ready to pull the trigger

I would lay my money it would fit >>> for we have another RTV 900 in the back with the 27" TIRES ON 589's onOEM STEEL RIMS, and they fit and look just like theothers with the aluminum rims >>>

NO LIFT KIT EITHER UNITS ON THE PLACE WITH 27" TIRES >>>>

Sizes I have on mine are:

ITP 589 M/S >>> AT 27-9-12 **** FRONT

ITP 589 M/S >>> AT 27-11-12 **** REAR

Let me make this suggestion, this goes to ANYBODY , if you don't HAVE to run the 27" tires, don't, for the only reason on mine was I thought I needed them in the swamps. NOW THAT I'VE SEEN BOTH GO >>>

The RTV will go just as farwith the 26 inchers as it will the 27" >>>>

What do you do then if you are looking for ground clearance in the front..? That is the main reason for me going with the 27" tires.

Also I have done the pump mod for the trans and air intake system with the injectors redone also, so the performance should handle the 27's. Would you stick with the 26" for the performance reasons or just because they will go as far as the 27" without robbing power or torque.

I am not in the swamps but in the northwest with snow and farmland applications so I need the clearance.

Thanks for the advise, just want to make sure they will fit

Our reasonwould be: just because they will go as far as the 27" without robbing power or torque.

We also, are begging for clearance. Also, the so called " lift kits" , really don't lift enough for the trouble, and was even offered a set at no cost at one time, would not install for it wasn't enough to deal with.

We don't have any rubbing, but it's really close >>> and Also, we have much farming application with ours also. So I know were you are coming from when it comes to needing more clearance. It's your shot, I'm just saying when I go to get another set, it will be 26" 589's.There is another machine that has 26" ITP's on his unit, and he could go anywhere I went with the 27" 589's last winter when it was rough.

Somebody told me once, or I read it on a forum, that the Heavy Duty front struts pick some up on the front of the RTV's, but I don't know that for a fact. Someone like Messick's maybe could answer that truefully for you.

Camo unit with OEM steel wheels & 27" ITP 589's >>>

Maybe this will show you how much clearancetheboth units has >>>>

But like you, I would want to use the steel OEM rims, for the only reason I got thealuminum rims, needed a extra set to swap out right then, and didn't want to order and wait for a set to get delivered >>>>

In my case, and I can say this on both units , power is no problem with the 27" tires, just is not no need to install them if the 26" will go just as far, and also, we are looking at the fender clearance ... Something else, when the wheels are turned sharp, the tires are really to close to the back / inside of the fender, to damn close >>>

The 900 & 1100 series RTV's has the same front ends, but you can double-check with Tommy on this forum, he builds BOOT SAVERS for both 900 & 1100's, and he has states that they are the same. He should know >>>>

Hope this helped with some of your answers >>>>

I was also told that about the spring and struts...with the RVT 1100 they come from the factory with the heavy duty spring and strut. In that case, look on the spring for the "blue dot" this is supposed to be the heavy duty application that all 1100's come with. I will go with the 27" and post my findings later with pics.

As far as added clearance goes, I was told the lift kits add 1 1/2" to the front, but the shackle lift in the back wont because of the solid axle. The end result is that the tire is cambered out at the top a bit, but with all the off road use it wont wear the tires any faster than normal. Any opinions on LIFT KITS.....now that the clearance issue has been discussed and settled. Look forward to reading about it on Monday.

Happy trails to all...

Thanks for the info on the " Blue Dot " struts. Learn something every day when it comes to equipment !!!!

can someone post a picture of the front strut.the reason i'm asking is on my hpx the shocks fitted into a sleave i guess like a strutt and they was heald in place by 2 bolts to lift the front all i did was back off the bolts a bit and slide the shock/strut out about 1" and retightend the bolts you can even put a spacer in there to make up the gap but it's really not needed. when i put the 27's on my hpx they rubbedi then put"made "a lift kit of 2"'s and put it in but after testing it ut i took the kit out and dropped the front 1" and retightened the bolts and she never moved and the tires got the clearance they needed.
