When winching

I got in trouble and slid my ridding mower over the bluff and into the woods so i figured it would be a good time to try out the new winch but even the RTV was pointing down hill pretty good which pulled the RTV down hill when i got to pulling. That got me thinking i will take along some good sized automotive\truck chocks i have next time, what do you guys do when working by yourself?

I have lots of hills, but also lots of trees. If chocking the tires doesn't work, I chain the rear of the RTV to a tree so it can't roll forward.

So, did you get your mower out?

Yep, i was mad at myself for doing something so stupid, i wished i would of grabbed the camera. I just pulled the cable out and hooked it up, i now wished i tryed to do the block and takle but it pulled it right out, i was surprised how easy it came out. 3500lb winch. :dancing:

Happy everthing worked out good for you and the downhill mower. Life is full of surprises yea.

Way things are sounding. Might would not hurt to keep a extra parachute handy while you are
on the mower. Never know ....

The other day,
Close friend was thinking about purchasing a " trike" motorcycle being he is retired now, thinking about taking some short trips with his wife. He drove his motorcycle to check out the
"trike" that was for sale. He test fired it, drove the trike about 60-80 miles, checking everything out. When he returned, he told the man he would be getting in touch with him Monday when the bank opens up. He climbed on his motorcycle and headed home, at the first stop......

......... he forgot to put his feet down. The bike feel over. I have never laughed so much in my entire life. All he could say was, " this is not the damn trike, and quite laughing dammit"...
Will never let him live that one down. Life is full of surprises..... for everyone !!!

I wasn't in too bad of shape when i first got it hung and then i would spin on a root so i looked around and thought if i could go over there it would get a bite and come out and before long in deep, gravity can be a bad thing.

Harbor Freight carries good, solid chocks ... watch for sales and get 'em for around $7. Chocks might not help much if you're pointing downhill to begin with ... I guess it depends on how solid the surface is beneath you.

Harbor Freight carries many things that are good for the price.

I have purchased many things that I purchased years ago, and the
products are still working great.
Have several AC winches that we use to pick up our hogs & deer for
butchering.
Tarps & straps. Rope & Goodyear air hoses. The list never stops.

There is one product they sell we love. It's called the Wireless Driveway Alert
This items beeps (you set volume high or low ) when anybody, something, or
like maybe a swamp monster, walks or move in the direction of the eye ( transmitter ).
The receiver can pick up the transmision well over 400 plus feet easy. They come in different
channels. We have 'em set at all areas of the place, with different channels. We can tell when
somebody walks up to the shops or up to the gates, while we are inside, warning us of something
come into the perimeter. It's waterproof. It is a big tattle-tale unit for sure.
They are on sale now for 11.99, that is a deal ....

we just got our very own tractor supply store about 4 miles from my house .i went in there the other day and i was in love.they got just about anything and everything you could imagine.the harbor frieght store is in new orleans and thats 60 miles away.i wish they would build one of them down here too.i love to shop the wife tells me i'm in touch with women??? don't know what she means but when i'm in the store ladys come up to me and talk about how to get a better deal on this or that and i do the same .i do all the shopping i can't get the wife to even leave the house.i take all the phone calls and make all the phone calls she says she don't like talkin on the phone?? on that winching thing i would carry lots of rope.when i go ride i used to carry 200+ foot of rope but now i slimed it down to 5 heavy duty lifting slings i got off the offshore rigs.they are 20'each and can handle about 9k lbs of load pressure the only reason i get them for free is after they are of a certain age the coast guard makes the rigs and boats replace them so when i go to the boats i ask them and they give me all i want.i got a shackle a few months ago that weighs about 50lbs this thing is huge i have no idea what i could use it for but i took it home anyways.

Reminds me of when I lost my Simplicity riding mower into the woods. Was driving it back to the house from our river lot about 3/4 mile away and hit a slick spot on the hill and couldn't make it up it. Had the wife drive the atv to tow me up the hill but the ATV started sliding to, then the Simplicity .... tow hook came off and I could not stop the simplicity from sliding. I got off before she went over. I didn't have a electronic winch, all I had was a couple of those hand winches. Slow but sure I got it up out of there. I had to wait till the following weekend to get at it and things had dried up by then, so I was able to get it home okay. No fun at all though.

Sounds like a deal. My driveway announcer quit working a while back. I've been meaning to replace it. I'd never looked for those at Habor Frieght. Thanks for the tip.

Is this the one you mean? It shows 17.99 online.

What about the coons, possums, deer, armadillos, coyotes, neighborhood cats, and other usual suspects who wander around the yard at night? Seems like they'd keep that thing buzzing all the time.

Yes Sir, that is it !!!

Just got a sale paper the other day, they had them on sale $11.99

They are a super item. Funny thing about it, if it goes bad, they replace it.
I myself, has not had one go bad yet. Only thing I've had to do is change
a battery or two. Been using them for years.

The transmitter is set about 36-42 inches high. So most little critters don't even activate it.
Deer, People, Autos, higher things will. Way I set mine, if something was setting it off like a smaller animal, would just raise the transmitter up a little......

Buzzing all the time has been no problem to us. Now, if you set it next to a shop door. And somebody just stands at that door and keeps talking and moving in the door. Then it will buzz
and keep buzzing until the one at the shop door walks away. We put one right at the entrance of
a shop door once, then moved it out some what about ten foot away, where it will still serve the purpose, but just will not keep going off when a motor-mouth stands at the door !!!!

....... two guns

I thought of putting one of those in our lane but the deer use it more than the rare visitor we get. And the bear would just have more play thing to destroy. I use my dogs and buried radio fence as they tend to keep folks in their vehicle anyhow.

k-9's or as i call them "my little friends" are the best alarm you can have. my drive way ends about 300' from my house and you have to walk the rest of the way through my jungle i have planted . i have 6 chihuahuas and a black lab that stay inside and when someone drives up they get up and stare at the door. thats my waring someone is out there then if they hear something in the yard they go crazy and i open the front door and let them out . but when i get up to let them out they are howling and the big lab is 90lbs he started barkin you can hear them barkin inside from way up front .if i was an intruder and heard a pack of dogs yelpin like that i think i would turn around.
