I keep hunt but saw this truck it is primer with ugly green but we think that we can paint plus restore so it be good truck again. I did look at tires it look to be stout for that truck.

Good thing he accept my trade for ward tractor with air compressor plus 150 dollars for his to fill gas then bring to our garage.

Here what owner say
1981 ford ranger f-100
body is in good shape does have some rust
302 v-8 from a 69 mustang lower miles
newer tires and rear brakes
great work truck
has cracked windshield and could use a carb rebuild or at least a cleaning
new plugs and distributer cap and wires

Is mustang's 302 v8 good? How much it get mpg? It have auto transmission.

I have question about how to clean rust off chrome bumper and ugly paint on body or just cover with primer then paint again?

What right way to fix body if have rust on it? What equipment that we need to fix? Grinder with brush or??

Here pictures. I can't add another pictures due different files.

It has allot of potential Dan.

302's in a short-bed truck w/automatic (w/out EFI) get about 15-17 highway. IMHO the 302 is probably the best small block Ford has developed. Reliable and when well maintained can go 175-200,000 miles before a complete overhaul.

There is absolutely NO WAY to ever cure rust through other than replacing full body panels or aftermarket patch panels. Cutting out the existing rotted areas, 'stepping' the metal edges and spot-plug MIG welding with Argon/Co2 gas will not distort the new metal when matched to the old panels. A gentle 36-40 grit grinding disc, a very thin coat of body filler AND then prime and paint.

Good body work is expensive unless you have all the required tools. All the required tools to do good body work is expensive....A real catch 22. If this truck is one that you've always wanted....then sub out the work you can't do, read a good book like some of the Peterson Publications on 'How To' and do a little at a time. If it isn't the truck of your dreams, then maybe just keep it tuned up and mechanically in good shape - drive it until you want to sell, trade or upgrade to the truck you really want.

And then there's painting....which is another trade all together.

I been want f100 but most they was already restore plus they are so expense like over 5,000 to 7,000 dollars.

And this seem to one I like but much work is paint then fix it.

Does the truck run? Is it drivable?

Seems to good to be true for the 69 302 with low miles. That motor is close to 40 years old. To have low miles it would have had to sit a lot. Sitting is not good for motors. But, from how you've described it, it sounds like a fair deal.

I am not sure but I have e-mail owner and answer me about 8 times then after that stop. i think he have job night shift that why he not answer phone or e-mail but he answer this morning at 7 A.m. to 1:40 p.m. That sound he work at ford because my Dad is ready for work at 3 p.m. but leave home at 2 p.m. I hope he didn't sold to another people. I hope he will still bring truck and pick ward tractor, air compressor, and 150 dollars for refill gas on that truck plus he must deliver to our house.

I do believe it is drivable. I have question will it safe for engine if I remove oil pan to clean sludge that stay for long time?

wow that mean truck actual never drove much maybe have less than 100,000 miles.

Where best website for new parts plus cheap.

My neighbor recently picked up a similar truck but his was a little newer.

His could be driven but on further inspection, he found things that definitely needed repair.

He's got it for sale now and I posted for him in this thread.

With the exception of the filters, the other items he changed were requirements to get/keep it running. Things like holes in the gas tank and leaks in the brake lines aren't something you want to drive with.

I guess I'm saying to do a thorough inspection on it.

For parts, he got most from Advance Auto parts. Everything is NOS but was reasonable priced.

Mark777 hit the nail square, Get full patch panels, cut, mig, glass and prime. This is of course after making sure mechanicals are safe like brake lines etc, I think Mark is the one I talked to ages ago about centari painting when centari was popular?

Well found place who will do that job for small price is at another high school.

They say I must pay for stuff they need to do on that truck's body so I think it will cost 400 dollars.

Thank

Aren't you still in High School? Are you in Auto Shop? Take it there, then you can do it.

Our school don't service that but it same city mean public school so I need talk with my teacher how to do that since he work at that school before.

Fun thing I already talk with teacher about put v6 in it. He scream you are most crazy deaf boy then he say why not look for other truck with v6 but I told his that truck from 1994 to present not look nice plus frame is rotten plus v6 4.2l are worse engine. He say try it.

If you want a V6 buy a Ranger, not an F-100 or F-150. Actually if you want a six, find an F-100/F-150 with a 300-6 and a 4 speed.

Well what I learn that f100 came with v8 but no v6 but they have 6 incline but it use more gas than mustang v8 in there.

I think I will use this truck for short distance or haul very heavy thing that ranger couldn't do that without soup to engine get more horsepower.

For ranger it actual small for us due our height plus no heavy duty leaf spring if put heavy thing on bed it will low to down like here picture.

that horn actual weight 400 pounds.

Finally got his e-mail. The reason why he not answer his cell phone it was work phone not his personal cell phone.

He say he need talk with his wife for that.

here what he say on e-mail

SORRY ITS MY WORK PHONE I
I STILL HAVE TO TOUCH BASE WITH MY WIFE
ILL WMAIL YOU LATER TO LET U KNOW FOR SURE

Sure Larry...I remember the conversations well (And it has been a long time too). Dupont's' Centari was the trade leader for many years.
