X900 Rear View Depth Perception

Over the years I have driven campers, dump trucks, and school buses so backing with mirrors is generally not a problem. However for some reason when backing the X900 with mirrors it is difficult to determine how close I am to whatever I'm backing toward. I can't decide it it is because of the short bed, the height of my mirrors, or the size of my mirrors but my depth perception seems to be impaired. (No... I haven't been using alcohol or other impairing substances)

I use a center mounted mirror and two post mounted mirrors on my machine but have to get out and monitor the distance when I get close to what I'm backing toward.

I have considered mounting a rearview camera but don't really see a good place to mount one. Most of the time I use my machine it is not a problem but I don't want to damage my RTV backing into a trailer or other equipment in the shed where I store it.

Has anyone else addressed this problem or found a good place to mount a backup camera?

I've noticed the same. I have not solved the issue but always thought it was due to the shorter bed and the fact that my truck has a backup camera which lets me get closer than I ever could before back up cameras.
I never considered it enough of an issue that I'd buy a backup camera for it.

This is how I did my 04 RTV900 with a cheap camera from Amazon. Still working after 5 years. Makes life a lot easier for this old guy.

We had discussions about drilling the roll cage but clamps would work also.

Oh Yeah! …now that you’ve drilled your roll-cage your transmission will overheat, blow the bottom out with so much FORCE it’ll roll-over the machine and you’ll die. Add me to your will please.

So that's what caused that issue with mine. I'll do you a favor and leave you out of the will. You won't be stuck with my unpaid bills then. ;)

Thanks, Doc and avantiguy.

Avantiguy, I like where you mounted your camera I believe I could mount one in the same general area on my machine. In fact I bought a similar backup camera that was still in the box at a yard sale a while back. If I can remember where I safely stored it so that I wouldn't forget where it is, I could get by with only a little labor. Good idea for using a piece of square tubing as a bracket!
