XG850 thinks it's in reverse at 40mph

My xg850 will be running fine, then the ecu cuts the engine power and R is displayed in the gearshift display. After it slows down a bit the power comes back and away I go until it does it again. If I wiggle the gearshift it will display the correct gear.

Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution?

Yuck. Sorry to hear that. A problem for the dealer to fix for sure.

Agree with Doc - that is a trip to the dealer. I would imagine it has something to do with a speed sensor which hopefully your warranty covers. Good luck.

Figured it out. There are 3 switches on top of the tranny. The center one that they call the safety switch just needed to be done up 1/4 turn.

Was it loose or did it need a 1/4 turn of adjustment?

It was loose. They have an o-ring seal and are made to screw in tight.
