Bed sides

Have been using my 900 to cut wood and more that anything else i would like to get some protection for the rear windshield and a little larger load of wood if i stay off the steep hills, i have thought about making the side and ft of the bed a little taller.I got some tubing that fits into the bed post real good but i see that the front will need a curve so not to hit the rear windshield, i have some straight pieces of hog panel i could brace up and make work or make it out of wood, what have you done, make it a three piece or one, how tall, i cannot really see out my back window\metal guard so i am making some mirrors but i don't need it too tall, and i have been figuring out a way to build\mount a box on the front bumper to carry my saws-ax-tools-gas and oil plus give me a tall bench to use to sharpen\work on the saw. I have had a blast fixing this RTV to suit me so far,radio-rhino line-cab fan ect.

I made these from hardwood and keep it back about 3 in from the front and 1 foot high.

The back upright goes in to the post hole 6" and the very front does as well but is only 1.5" tall to hold the bottom rail. The back keeps everything square. Front tall upright bolts to that bottom rail and the next two rails are short by 3 in so the front is set back enough to clear air breather pipe and window.

I also had Greedy boards made from 1"square tubing and aluminum sides but they don't fit now due to the breather setup.

Great job Kanook. That means it will fit an 11 when you upgrade. Blizzard plow painted orange looks good too. Love the shed, how big is it? And high is that garage door?

Nosy eh!

Spud....

The Blizzard plow was well used when I got it. With the help of a lot of heat from the oxy/acet torch the blade was persuaded to assume nearly all its original shape then off to the local sand blast shop for complete cleaning and an application of epoxy primer and then a coat of Kubota orange. Same story for the heated cab off a well used RTV that was being parted out. Sand blasting and primer along with rocker panel paint and new door and window gaskets. Shed is 20x28 (should have gone bigger....duh!) and door is 10 wide by 8 high. Sheathing and sprayed on insulation have been added since photo was taken.

I just put these bed sides on my 08/RTV 1100. I have not hauled wood with the new sides on, but think it will work well. I had my brother-in-law weld the posts to keep them away from my rear screen. I have been very happy with the 1100, it has done everything I have asked of it and more. Thank you to everyone on this forum for all the good info. XTROOPER.

Bed Sides

Pics came out crummy. Very overcast and rainy in NE PA. Waited for my daughter to come home from Penn State to take the pics and download. Will try again when and IF we get a sunny day. XTROOPER

SpudHauler,
that looks awesome! what size tube metal fits in the sides. I also noticed the side view mirrors on the doors, where did you get them?

The aluminum rack I had made was 1"x1" square tubing. Fits perfect.

These are 1"x1" hardwood we milled up.

Mirrors are Kubota. Best yet. Convex, so you see more both up/down and left/right. I believe they are just an inside mirror that they stuck an outside mount to. Replaced the little screws in the back with through bolts because they look like they might break or pull through.

Dam cab is so wide other mirrors, Grote, not as good.

Where's Deerlope? He has a nice setup for bed rails...

Hi Brian, Yes I do have a nice set up but I also do not have a curved windsheild either. I can easily haul a 1/2 face cord of wood cut 16" if I just throw it on and I have been doing so all week.

Hi: Just new to this forum and thought I would chime in here.
This is what I built for mine. I haul a lot of wood as well and wanted to be able to take bigger loads. Works great and looks good too. (If I do say so myself).

I sure does look good MrBill. Heck, it looks like came with the RTV, or should at least be an option. How long did it take you to make it and how much did the materials run (ballpark)?
Welcome to Net Tractor Talk. I'm glad you found us. :tiphat: :thumb: :D

Welcome here.

mr bill, is that your spark arrestor still on your machine. What year is yours .

nice set up you got there mister !!!!

Your tracks, is that just to keep from messing up the turf ?

....... two guns ....

Been meaning to ask about those tracks..How does it steer and does the RTV have to be always in 4 WD???......or do the front tracks free wheel easily???

Mr Bill, how tall are your sides? I was planing on doing the same, but with a shorter swing tailgate.

Thanks for all the compliments.
Doc:I worked a few hours in the evenings on it and it took me about a week.I bought 10ft 3/4" Sq, 10ft 1" sq, and a sheet of expanded metal and I can't recall how much it all was but I am pretty sure it was less than 100 bucks.
Two Guns: I am assuming that I still have the spark arrestor on as I know I haven't taken it off. Why? Should I have? It's a 2005 and I bought the tracks as I found the first winter that I had it I couldn't use it for the majority of it. The bottom plates would ride up on the top of the snow and it would sit and spin. I have been through snow that was as deep as the tracks without much trouble. They don't seem to like steep hill and snow together. But for the most part they are great.
Kanook: It steers fine with the tracks. Would probably be an issue without power steering. I have it is 4 wheel all the time but it will run fine in 2 wheel. The front tracks will freewheel just fine. They do decrease the top speed by about 40%. I'm never going anywhere where I need the speed though.
e-wa: I don't recall how tall they are. 18-24" I think. It was a fun project to build with my new at the time welder. lol
