I was just going to see if anyone thought it would be practical for some aftermarket company to design an a/c kit for the rtv 900 I don't think anyone makes one. I just wonder what is stopping them is the machine under powered or is there no possible place to mount the compressor and drive pulley? This is probably a crazy question to ask but if it was possible they could probably sell lots of them.
i was gonna post the same thing they sell them all in one unite for old vintage cars and also jeeps.there is also a compay that makes kits to mount on top of small coolers and it will cool down the inside of a pickup truck really nice and run for hours but you can make them for just about nuthing here's a video of one.you can make this kit out of something as small as a igloo 12 quart cooler and sit it on the seat next to you .
I talked to a place called hammond ac and they are checking into it. I can't see anywhere on the side of the engine to put an a/c compressor. I did find one way to help with the a/c and that is to remove the front windshield. I do believe there is a place to harness the power of the little diesel for a small btu compressor but I dont know how. I know the 1100 is the best way to go but my truck cost less than that and it came with a/c, four wheel drive and also place to take the family and dog to town at 55mph.
Another option might be a tractor unit where it is contained in the roof or overhead inside the cab. Haven't seen any but I'm sure any tractor with a cab down south must have AC.
is there anyway to run a small hydraulic motor undr the hood with a belt to turn the compressor?of you use the right pullies to gear it down it should raise the rpm's up on the spinng of the compressor and do the job.get the smallest motor so it wouldn't put a drain on any hydro fluids for the rest of the unit.
I have been researching and there are some options that could possibly work at different price levels. The simplest one is to build a design like the artic air unit and use the chill water coil but you still have to put ice in a small cooler. I do refrigeration and air conditioning for a living and I do have my own ice machine in my shop so the ice wouldn't be a problem. This unit pumps chill water from the ice box to a chilled water coil inside the cab for cooling. This is the same method used in large commercial buildings with chillers and they dehumidify quite well. Another method I have been researching is the small 12v condensing unit from masterflux made by tecumseh compressor. It is a unit they use in some electric cars. I think the compressor draws around 29 amps and then you would have your condensor and evaporater fan pulling around 4 amps each. I think the manual says the 900 has a 60 amp alternator so the amps should be fine. The prices are slowly coming down on these new technology inverter compressors. I stopped at my dealer and looked at the 1100 to see how they worked and the compressor is mounted out away from the engine. It would still take alot of fabrication to do this and you still would have to mount separate condesor fan that runs all the time. By the way I wish I hadn't of looked at the 1100 now. I just can't put that kind of money in a machine although it is unbelievably nice.
the alternator might put out 60 amps but that 60 amps isn't whay you can use the rtv use a good bit of them amps just to keep the engine running so your gonna have to check and see just how many amps the rtv itself needs to run off of before you atrt pulling more amps out of the alternator.
