About to jump in

Hi to all new here and i need some quick help, i have looked at the RTVes for a few years now but have given up getting one for one reason or another. I found out about a RTV 900 that a Polaris dealer got on a trade that a fella had that passed on and the widow traded on a smaller four wheeler. I went today, just to see and it is a 2006 with 424 hrs and they had put on the delux Kubota cab with heater and wiper, hyd tilt bed,the tires are close to gone and i got to talk to the son and he said that is cause mom drove it on the county roads alot to go see everyone and it looks like that is the case. I drove it and what little i know all seems good, i just need to know if $8500.00 no tax is a good deal or not. Thanks and any help would be great.

Seems like it is priced a bit high to me. The running on the road part would only be a big deal if she forgot to take it out of 4wd when she did it. I would for sure be checking the u-joints and yokes out as the road running creates more stress at higher speeds.

Sounds like it is barely broke in, and it has the upgraded cab w/ heater. I wonder how negotiable the 8500 is? Sure would be tempting.

I got them down from 9,000.00 to 8500.00 so that is as far as they will go, i got a price of 17,500 on a brand new out of the box 1100 and 12,200 0n a 900 with 0\0 money for 48 months but damm them payments. This 2006 needs a fuel gauge repair and the bed needs some attention and the tires are thin but i have found take offs with rims for 70.00 and i make my living as a brown tk mechanic so i can jump in on the repairs, is there much difference on this machine and a new one mechanically.

Welcome to the forum.

As for pricing, the best way I've found to determine fair market value is to do a search on e-bay of completed items for RTV. This will show you what they've been selling for in the real world.

$8500 doesn't seem unreasonable considering the cab and heater but like Muleman said, check the drive-train components closely.

Sounds like the jokes you would hear about cars, only run on Sunday's by a little old lady, at the drag strip.:shit:

I think the price is good. Tire wear is normal for pavement crusing and I'll bet she never used 4wd.

Delux cabs are expensive, so get a pic and let us see.

I don't think you specified the geographical location but in my neck of the woods, a 900 equipped with a heated cab and those hours would be a bargain ...

Yea, be careful of "little old ladies" and their driving only on Sundays deal. I put mine thru the wringer (3500 hrs) but I do change fluids. Just so you know- I paid $10,300 2005 dollars for my "05 brand new with hydro dump and a years warranty. It had no cab though. It's just too hot here and the humidity too high to have a cab . Plus, I need to jump on and off real quick to catch calves while they are still half asleep when we tag them. In the winter I now improvise with a windshield of that heat shrink plastic. Cost about $ .40 every few weeks. If you put that $8500 down I bet your payments wouldn't hurt so much. Remember also that there was talk of the 2011 being much improved. . Good Luck. Bordercollie

The only thing I recall of the older RTV 900s was it being difficult to shift gears. Some complained of having to turn the machine off in order to relieve pressure on the tranny to do this. Give it a check.

That's a good deal for the hours and the cab. The tires are a none issue as far as I'm concerned. But double check the front CVT joints. If the tires are worn out with those hours, then it is possible she never took it out of four wheel drive. Hence the excessive wear. The type of tire plays into the situation as far as tire life as well. For example the ATV tire will wear out on the road far sooner than the heavy duty tire option would. But double check those CVT joints. That's likely the biggest weak point on these things and they are not exactly cheap.

The price sounds fair to me, the hours are pretty low for the year and the cab adds a lot to the value in my opinion, well that is if you want a cab. Personally I jump on and off my RTV so many times doing chores I don't want to fumble around with doors and in the summer I do like the wind blowing on me to give me some of that 20 mph AC :yum:

I got up this morning thinking i should bit the bullet and just get a new one, then i checked the post here and the thought crept back in on payments and i can retire in 68 days with no bills so to be sure i called around several dealers checking prices and when i called one in Indianapolis and was honest with him he told me outright to get the used one i found, solid deal, i live in southern Indiana. I know i sounded funny the old lady thing but a talked to son a good while and we cussed and discussed several things and i feel good about the condition of the RTV so i called the dealer and told him to lock the doors on it and i would be up on Friday to pick her up. Again thanks and i will try to get a pic.

Good for you whatscooking. I do agree about the payment thing- just thinking out loud about the 4 grand difference.- but I imagine that 12 grand price didn't have a cab either so by the time it was added on to a new one it would be a bigger difference in cost. Anyway, I am sure it will be wonderful for you and agree it does feel good to sleep at night with no payments. Enjoy!! ---and Pleasant dreams!, Bordercollie

Whatscookin........YOU DID RIGHT BUD............Nothing wrong with used and valuable.......Paid for is the most fantastic thing of all. Instead of those payments you can turn around and put a bit here and there in on other stuff you just HAVE to have........Being so called retired myself is surely NOT what you may think it is........Yes, a fixed income allows you to do cash work when you want..........It also allows you to get around to doing what you want when YOU want to......Which means you will be working your tail off more than you ever did whe you had a so called job...........

I thank God that due to HIS Grace, I have NO bills, am totally behind on my "to do" list; but doing it when I want, have great health, and am part of a generation that appreciates what we have..........God bless us all please.........Dennis

I grew up on a 900 acre farm and saw and learned many things and then in 1984 as i recall we lost our farm,i should say dad lost i was too young to sign my name, and that left a scar which has made me look at everything a little different than most people. I like to buy:winterrules: things that are built to last and and hold their value and can do many things so i have had an itch to get one of these Kubota RTVes for a long time and tonight i brought her home and the wife and went out and chased some deer at 1:00 am. I,am taking my last vacation this comming week and will try her out cutting wood.
