ALWAYS KEEP A SPARE KEY SOMEWHERE ON THE RTV !!!!

I do .............. now !!!

During hunting yesterday I parked my RTV really closer than I usally do. Just about maybe 30 yards behind me. I was hunting a nice beautiful food plot / open area. And just behind me was some of the most beautiful woods in the world. About a hour into the hunt, I had six deer in my food plot. Two small bucks and four does. Then I happened to look behind me and happen to see
a coon, in my RTV, playing with my round orange KUBOTA key chain. They were still in the ignition. First, I thought it was funny. But he was flopping and flapping the round orange "KUBOTA" key thingy. He was having a blast. And then it happened. Don't know if he pulled them or what. Couldn't really tell, but they hit the floorboard. Then he jumped down and got to playing with it down there. NOT having a spare set, I went into a panic. Knowing if he took off with the keys. I was in for a long journey back to the truck.
THAT IS WHEN I BLEW MY COVER . I hollered and threw the door open and when flying down the ladder, running myself toward the RTV. The coon just stood there until I got maybe eight foot and decided it was time to scoot.
I snatched up my key (felt like a small boy thinking," Dat's Mine ").
Put them in my pocket and went back to the stand.
Nope, deer was gone. But did hear Mrs. Two Guns shoot a few minutes later. She killed a nice buck.
Don't know what we would have done if I wouldn't looked back at the RTV.
That could have turned into a nightmare !!!!

I keep a spare key in the glove box of the truck for the RTV. But now, there is also another key hidden under the hood of the RTV.

I would have loved to have had a video of that Two Guns !! I bet it would have went "viral" or what ever the young'uns call it. I keep a spare in my toolbox as well.. you can never tell when you might have it fall out of your pocket... like when... umm .... rolling under a fence... 'coarse I have never done that.... no with my cell phone neither ;). I'm glad he didn't take off in it and knock a support leg off of your shooting stand... remember the scene from Hogan's Heroes ? haha. I'm glad you and Mrs. Two Guns had a good day in the end. :tiphat: collie

Now that's funny considering how quiet and still you must have been while the deer were in front of you!!!!! Just proud you didn't shoot the coon. Damage would have occurred to the Bota.:14_6_12:

Just shows that us ol' guys still have our "moves"..........I use the metal detector more often to find lost keys than I ever do to find "goodies"........God bless......Dennis

That's pretty funny Jamie.

I got my RTV when my son was 2. It didn't take me long to realize I needed to strap all the keys down. I have a light cable that goes to the key and winch FOB that connects under the dash. Keys can't go more than about 8".

now that was funnylmao. where I work they have a really bad coon problem at night the coons walk up the walkway to each boat and go through the garbage bags and even enter and rummage through the kitchen if the door is left open. now I didn't see this happen but a few guys was talking the other day of a guy who through out a bunch of food in the dumpster and aslo poured in 4 or 5 gallons of waterbased paint. they told me they had white coons running all over the yard for weeks til it rained.lol

they have traps around the yard to catch them but I normally get there 30 minutes before everyone else and I go around and turn them all loose. after having one for a pet I just can't sit back and watch them get trapped and killed.

well I see both side to this and one side is they should take the trash bags and put them in the dumpster and close the lid problem solved right. the part I don't like is leaving food and stuff laying around and expecting the wild animals to pass it by??then setting a trap for them and blaming the coon for doing what a coon would normally do.i don't like watching them take the coon out of the cage and beating it with a stick til it's dead and then throwing it in the slip for the gators to eat.i leave the lid to my trash can open all the time and it never fails I always get opossums in it. I put on my welding gloves reach in and take the feller to a relocation point not that it works cause he shows right back up again.we leave food out on the boat decks and get mad when a coon shows up to eat it yet we go out of our way to haul corn and plant grass for the deer to come eat???? and no I am not anti hunting there is nothing wrong with hunting for food.

Good story Jamie. Good eye. Especially since it was behind you. Would have been easy to miss.

Speaking of extra keys, I only have one. I need to have some keys made. Do you have to go to kubota to make the keys or can any key maker make them?

Doc, those keys aren't cut so anyone with an RTV key can "borrow " your machine, Same goes for a lot of equipment like Caterpillars even. I use the old Cat dozer key my dear Daddy gave me years ago to crank the new Cat skid steer everyday.. You can just order yours or drop by and get one...(unless things have changed) collie
