I've been lurking and reading for awhile. I traded a Kubota tractor in for a RTV 500 and a ZG 222 zero turn mower. Loved the tractor but all the house stuff was done and I wanted some fun. I use the RTV for plowing (no snow this year) and around the neighborhood. The dog and I have the majority of the hours just cruising out to the mailbox and back.
I've learned a lot here and you guys make me laugh. I'd love to have you all as neighbors. I may have questions so I thought I'd say hello first.

Welcome to the Forum !!!!

Smile, we ain't that bad. We just help you spend you WHOLE life savings on one toy !!!!

Glad your here !!!!

Hi Harpoonalt, Welcome aboard! post some pictures so we can help you spend accessory money. :) We love to spend others money. :) :) :) . bordercollie

Thanks for the welcomes. I included pictures of the most frequent rider too! Other than the plow, not much added. Come spring I want to add some more lights, a rear view mirror, and racks for the back. You guys gave me a lot of good ideas. I just need some real snow to give the plow a real test.:17875::17875:

Hi harpoonalt! Welcome to our RTV & Tractor internet forum. :tiphat:

Good pics. Nice setup you have there. I love my ZTR, not a Kubota but it sure gets the mowing job done.

I miss the tractor occasionally but the ZTR makes the lawn mowing fun and the cut quality is much better. The RTV was for plowing and yard work My wife loves it too. She wouldn't drive the tractor but she'll drive all over with this. The dog, "Bella" gets mistaken a lot for a wheaton but she's a goldendoodle. She loves the RTV and would ride all day if I'd let her!
The 500's a little low on power but goes pretty much anywhere. And thank's to you fine gentlemen, I have a list of upgrades to do when it warms up around here.

yea we ain't that bad in here .and we do try to make everyone laugh from time to time.i too like the last pic best.i'm an animal lover to the max.7 dogs 4 cats and way to may goldfish and koi.

Soooo, what plow did you go with, I have been considering adding one to my 500 and do you need to chain up when plowing? JH

I went with the factory Kubota plow and installed it myself. Pretty straight forward. Hardest part was fishing the wiring under the floormat.
As far as how it works, well last year we had mountains of snow here in Vermont. This year, hardly any. I'm looking out at bare ground now and a sunny 40 degrees. The little snow we got was hardly a test for the plow but I think it's going to work well. The electric lift is a bit slow, but that would only be an issue if you're plowing a lot and constantly up and down. I plowed about 4 inches (the most we've got) and when I got done, realized I'd done it all in 2 wheel drive. Didn't spin a tire. My driveway is pretty flat, so take that into consideration. The only other thing is I intend to use a piece of stall mat as the cutting edge for next year. I have a recycled asphalt driveway and think the rubber edge may be kinder to it.
If we ever get any real snow, I'll be sure and take pictures and let you know.

Peanut, You got your very own petting zoo there :)

Welcome to the forum. Great pics!

Re. the stall mat for the cutting edge, I tried that a couple years back on a 6' 3PH blade on my tractor. It didn't work very good... The blade didn't weigh enough to keep it down so it lifted too easy. At least with steel, you have a cutting edge to keep the blade down. I can see if I can find the thread where I discussed it. Heck, I may still have that strip of stall mat laying around. You want it?

Welcome aboard, Mate. I too have a ZD21 ... a 2002 model. Three acres to mow weekly here, April through September. The ZD21 makes short work of it. The mower impressed me sufficiently with its industrial-grade strength and build quality to convince me that I needed ... not "wanted," but NEEDED ... an RTV900 to ride the grandkids around on. Now and then I put the RTV to work, but no more than necessary. Glad to have you here.

I have the ZG model. Gas instead of diesel. It was a bit of money but the hydraulic lift is nice and it rides pretty good. The best part is the cut. It stripes the lawn really nice and everyone notices that right away. I'm very happy with it.
Snowed last night, only about 3 or 4 inches, so still no real test of the plow. Still plow in 2 wheel drive mostly since it just doesn't spin. Can't wait for a big dumping to really test out the plow. Anyway, I like pictures, so here's a couple of the plow setup.

Nice setup you have with the plow. Looks like it would get the job done for sure.

I have a Scag (gas) ZTR. It does a great job mowing and semi stripes. I wish I could make it do the dramatic stripes like I see on some yards.

Thanks all! Some ZTRs stripe good stock. You can always add a striping kit which is really just a roller on the back of the deck. It's fun when you get the stripes to look like you went right thru a tree.

looking at the pictures of the plow it seems to have a nice flatepiece running across the top so why not drill 2 or 4 holes in it and put some 3/4 " bolts about 6" long through it and then go to a sports store or maybe even wallmart and buy a set of them iron lifting weights and slide a few on the bolts to help weight it down? just an idea. if you use allthread rod you can secue the weights on it with a nut on top so they won't do any rattling.

Hi Harpoonalt and welcome to the forum. Nice pictures for sure, neat pup too! I didn't see anything about where your at? Your pictures look a lot like my place and I'm in North Carolina.
