Good Luck those in the "Path" of the storm

speaking of little friends the night the storm made landfall i told the wife that while the wind was coming from a safe direction we should try to get some sleep well the chicanos didn't wanna be by themselves so we had 6 chicanos in the bed with us then we seen two noses and heard some whining from the living room so we had to let the lab and pitbull in too. so there we laid with 6 chicanos in the bed and a lab and pitbull sleeping on the floor on my side the bed then the power goes out . let me tell you one thing them little chicanos put out some heat it got warm really fast.my chicanos don't like the wind because of huricane gustav it really messed with them bad and ever sinse then they are scared of wind. i made a video of gustav when it came through i put it on youtube if you wanna see it here's a link to it i cut the sound out because the wind was so strong but this is what 115 mph winds look like and what they do it tore my brothers yard and house to pieces in a matter of minutes.at the end of the video i show a picture of my front yard we had to cut out way into the house with the chainsaws.

you can see black things fly across the screen thats shingles off of the houses around his house. i'm glad isaac wasn't as bad as gustav in the wind catagory because as slow moving as this storm is i don't think there would have been anything left standing after. right now we are still dealing with rain and flooding .down here we are flooding far two reasons one is the rain the the second is the south wind is pushing water up the marsh and into the homes.the water is to the top of the levee in the back and the pumps have been steady running now for a few days but they are reaching a point to where they are just curculating the water out the bayou and into the swamp only for it to just come right back over the levee and into the bayou. we haven't been able to get outside to start cleaning up because of the wind and rain. not that we would melt or anything but even with small 50 mph gust you don't wanna be out under or near a tree after the storms because of branches that have snapped and sre lodged in the trees are still falling.i wish this storm would have went to texas because they really did need the rain we lost power for about 12 hours but they got it back on when the eye was over us it took almost 6 or 7 hours for the eye to pass over so that helped them out alot on getting out and fixing stuff. there are people down here who are acually calling in and complaining that they have no cable tv service i mean come on there are people flooding and without a house to go home to and these people are worried about cable tv????? i have satelite tv service for that one reason i live down in huricane alley and i know that poles come down and you lose tv but with the satelite tv you never have to worry about them poles coming down and knocking out the cable. i guess with every storm you'll have people who complain about the stupidest things. for me i'm just glad the house is here and everyones safe. my wife wanted to evacuate if the storm got stronger but i have so many little friends that i told here you know we can't take them with us if we go .i told her i would just bring her to her moms house and come back home and ride out the storm with my possie besides to me they are family and i sure ain't gonna leave them behind to be on their own in a storm. if the rain slacks off a bit later today i might take the rhino to the swamp and see whats up back there.

Glad to hear you all are A ok. And you even have power. :thumb: BC sure sounds like you got off easy. Good for you. I feel for those south of you also. We know they were hit pretty hard. Like the predicted it's the flooding that is the main concern and problem at this point.

Yea we made out pretty good.its wierd that we have power because there is a dubdivision next to us thats still withiut power.

yea lots of people try to uncode my typing on another website they say i type in coonass witch is true i kinda type the word like i say it. i also forget to put in them little dots called periods and my wife says she gets out of breath trying to read something i typed . it's still raining down here and i'm hoping it gets done with real soon. me and the wife took our lab and pitbull ride in the swamp yesterday evening and man the water was high.my snorkels came in handy a few times as the water came well over the dash of the rhino.we was on one trail that we ussually walk down that is dry but it had about 2' of water on it and we went down into a hole that shouldn't have been there.the whole rhino front end just dropped down into it .i threw it in reverse and backed out and went around it but we are gonna go back when the water resides and see whats there. i put on the outlaws yesterday and they got us through it all with ease. there is still alot of people around my house without power it's kinda sporatic the way the power is some have it and some don't. you take for granite what you have when the power goes out you come to love that little thing called a wall outlet and when you can't just walk up to something and plug it into the majical wall outlet you miss it and see just how lucky you are .some people in the world just can't do that even walking up to the faucet and getting nice clean drinking and cooking water is something many just don't have .that nice hot bath at the end of a day is another thing i reallized we have and many don't. i took a bath the day the power came on and while sitting in the tube i thought about the countries where people walk down to the river and bath and get water"muddy water".

i think back to the days when my grandpaw would tell me how they didn't have a/c and tv and i really couldn't imagine it being that way . i tell my kids how when we was younger and growing up how the tv was black and white and we had only a few channels like about 12 channels at the most or the times when we would go to the mall as kids and everyone would be at the payphones talking to friends now days the kids have smart phones and have the whole world at their finger tips they can talk to someone across the world by useing the internet and it's basicly free where as when we was a kid that conversation with the same person would have just about cost us a whole paycheck. i told my son we didn't have a/c for the first 7/8 years of my life and that all we had was a huge attic fan in the center of the hallway and that we would turn it on and open the windows to get that nice breeze but back then you could acually sleep with your windows open at night without haveing to worry about someone coming in and robbing or killing you.

i still remember going to the rifle range every summer we would shoot .22's all day long it was sponsored by the sheriffs department they taught us how to shoot and gun safety and fed us hotdogs and cokes at the end of the day .i can't see that happening in these days .

I hear ya. "WE" (The citizens of this country as a whole) have sure messed up a good thing you & me had growing up, didn't they.

yea just looking back at all the freedoms we had as a kid and seeing what the kids have today is shocking. they took all the sports out of elementary school and no more recesses for them . they have lockers at school but they aren't alowed to use them they have to carry every single book home with them and the teachers use the lockers as storage units. i felt sorry for my kids when i picked up their back packs them things was heavy and for 1st through6 grade kids to have to haul that around on their backs was very hard . i don't see why with all the computer stuff they got why not just cut school out and the kids do school online at home.save the country some money hell when you call a company do you talk to a person??no you get this computer gal on the phone so why not just have the computers talk to the kids ?they should get used to talking to computers because they will soon find out that unless you go into the company to talk to someone you will end up talking to a computer on the phone. when my wife goes for her dr's apointment they used to have a receptionist now they have a computer and you swipe your id or drivers license and it signs you in. all this stuff is fine and dandy but it all comes crashing down when the power goes out. i went to a drs apointment one time and they hadn't put my info in the puter yet instead of going to the file room and getting my file they just asked me what meds i was on and stuff like that. they apologized and told me that they would update the files for my next visit i went in for the next visit and it took two nurses to operate the laptop computer trying to figure out what was what.

i don't type to good and i write even worst but i myself have been getting to used to just pressing a key for a letter i went to write something one day recently and i had to sit there for a second or two to think of how to write the letters in cursif i ended up just writing in print. i realize how far along we have come everytime we have a storm and the power goes out. they say this country is relying on gas but they are wrong we can get along just fine without gas it's electricity that we rely on way to much. look at the mail system they have gas for the mail trucks but sinse there is no power they don't deliver the mail .the little post office we have has a generator but the main office doesn't so all the mail is stopped because there is no power for the machines that sort the mail. todays comforts are very nice and i like them but it just seems that life was so much simpler back in the day. i watch the show about the amish people here in the u.s and i say to myself man if all the power and gas supply was to stop and the country was to come to a complete hault these people wouldn't even notice it. it would have a no affect on them what so ever.

That's the truth about the computers Peanut . Most of ya'll are familiar with the female computer voice that try to be personable. Well one evening my bil was trying to get through that computer generated voice to get help on some part. It ask him to say the number and he said "nine" in his southern drawl. The lady computer voice said "sorry, I didn't get that" He said it again.. She said the same thing. Then after another attempt, he calls me in there to say "nine" with my voice. I sure am bad with the accent and the same thing again. Then he gets the phone back and says " NINE you @#?*&!". The computer voice says again "sorry, I still didn't get that". We are going to be in bad shape with these computers doing more and more and not being rational or logical. bordercollie

You should have said nuevo. And if you want irrational or illogical just talk to my wife!:yum:

Peanut, my 2 youngest boys are both home-schooled --on the computer. They are making good grades, and yea, they are missing out on some things they would get in public school. Like dope, learning how to cuss, smoke, drink, etc. My oldest talked us into letting him go 1 semester. We pulled him out when he learned he could just get in a car with his friends & ride down town to the bowling alley. The last day there, he still walked across blood on the sidewalk from a knife fight about a week earlier they had not cleaned off yet.
It's not hard at all, they are using the public school stuff, just @ home on the computer. Their teachers call regular, & at least once a month they call & talk to a parent to let us know how they are doing & answer any questions. Any questions, teacher is only an e-mail or phone call away.

yea down here my son told my it's the city boys against the country boys then in the city of houma they break down the city gang into two gangs that fight each other the west side and east side. it's funny to see them kids on the street or walking around the store acting all bad and stuff then you watch cops/trauma in the er and a few of them other reallity shows and when they haul them gang members into the hospital after being shot they ain't so bad anymore and they cry like babies.

i feel your pain bordercollie i seen that comercial for that dragon program that types as you speak i wonder how that would work with coonass talk or country talk?

Those of you that home-school are true heroes. I know that word gets overused these days, but here it fits.

Peanut, You may type in coonass but I can understand you better than I can understand my kids and grandkids when they text mesage on the phone.
The first tv my parents got was black and white, and there was no problem about what to watch. There was only one channel. Channel 4 out of Kansas City. NBC I think.
At least I could watch the Lone Ranger. It was alot better than sitting in the kitchen and listening to it on the old wooden radio.

When we got electric service dad got a tv shortly after and mom got a transistor radio. We got 3 stations but you had to run all the way around the house to turn the antenna pole till mom hollered it was right. running out barefoot in the snow was no fun at all.
