Help with winch mount

Are you trying to mount in the pocket? (behind the grill guard)?

If it doesn't utilize the standard Warn/Ramsey bolt pattern, you may have issues.

I might be able to help if you're going out of the pocket. If you're going in the pocket, you may have some drilling to do.

I need to get out of the pocket since I can not pull the free wheel lever do to size limitations. I was going to call these folks tomorrow. </p>

Give them a call but give me a little time...
I've got several winch mounting plates like what's in that link. They want $50, I'll darn near give you mine.
If you can, give me the bolt pattern. Let me see what I've got.

Also, tell me how/where exactly you plan on mounting.

Did the winch come with a fairlead?

Yea, I'm having some problems with PM's and such. I'd pursue it with Admin but a new version of the forum software is on the horizon so I'm going to assume it'll be rectified with the upgrade so I'll just wait.

bczoom that would not go so I will post here.</P>
<DIV>It is sure nice the way you help folks on the RTV Forum. Two Guns is also very helpful and we have corresponded by "E" Mail.</DIV>
<DIV>My wife's brother also lives in Pennsylvania (Wellsboro). I live in Gig Harbor, WA and have a summer home in the Helena Montana area, I am retired and spend most of the summer in the mountains there. If you ever get out that way I have great trout stream on my place. Stop in and do a little fishing.</DIV>

<DIV>I have only put about an hour on my machine running up and down the street in front of my house but come about May I will trailer it over to Canyon Creek and really get to use it.</DIV>

<DIV>I posted some hot links on the site for the winch and mounting plate that I bought. The mounting plate is to long to even mount on the holes in the grill guard. I would liketo get it mounted like the photos that Two Guns posted on the site of his Ramsey Winch. My wife of 47 years had a fit when I wanted to pay what Ramsey winches were going for so I found the one at Harbor Freight and she did not object to that. It seem to be well built (the opinion of a retired Mechanical Engineer) and should work well for what I will use it for around the 21 acres I have in Montana.Let me know if you get this!</DIV>

<DIV>Thanks</DIV>

Glad to hear you like the folks on the forum. I think I speak for Two Guns as well (since you mentioned him) when I say that it's ALL the members of the forum that make this place what it is. I've been here since the forum started and I honestly feel I get a lot more from the forum than what I put into it.

I'm heading west this summer but don't think I'll be in WA so I'll have to hold your fishing offer as a raincheck for another year.

I have several winch mounts. I'll see if I can find something to fit what you have or get a clear brain to figure out options for you. It's midnight here so I'm brain dead. Tomorrow it's going to be about -30 with the wind chill so I don't know if I'll be up for handling and playing with steel. I'll get back as soon as I can.

what size reciever hitch do you have in the front? you can get one of them pin in ones where you won't have to keep the winch on all the time or you can pin it in the rear reciever if needed.

It is one and one quarter inches but I would be reluctant to use it as a winch point since it is not rated for the 3,000lb pull. If you were to pul at a little angel it might tear something up.
BC, -30, stay away from that steel, you'll be like the kid on the playground with his tongue stuck to the flag pole!
Oh crap... Why did you say "kid" in that statement? I did that last week although it was on a roll-up door, not a flagpole. The real bugger occurred when the guy inside the door started rolling it up. Ever try yelling with your tongue stuck out?

my hpx is the same way and i have pulled almost directly sideways on it . but didn't you say on another web sight you wouldn't be useing the winch for rtv recovery?? if so you won't be putting the 3k load on it . plus i and pretty sure if the hpx one holds up that the rtv one will.i would be more concerned about the winch mount bending but as for as the reciever on the rtv bending i don't know about that.

Leon,

On that mount that you bought from HF, is your plan to mount it to the top of the plate where the grill guard mounts?

Could you put it there (as pictured) and drill holes for the bolts that mount the grill guard to go through this as well? A couple things about this plan:
1. You'll probably need longer bolts.
2. A couple washers may be needed to shim the plate up a little so you can get the winch mounting bolts through the plate. (so the head of the bolt is between the grill guard plate and the winch plate.

I will check that out today. I know that the mount I bought will not fit between the bars on the grill guard where the holes are drilled and threaded. I went to the Kubota dealer yesterday and checked out a mount that they have that fits a Warren winch (with a $600 price tag) It was an in pocket mount. They told me the only winch Kubota will let them put on the RTV. They could not believe that I only paid $89 for that winch and they sugested that I go to a local welding shop and see if they could make a mount. I am still working on a solution one of which is going to the mount set up that Two Guns has and drilling some extra mounting holes. I can get the Ramsey 3,000 Lb like Two Guns has for $332 at Essex Manufaturing. That may be the answer.

you want a mount that can pin into the reciever?if so get me a bolt pattern and i'll hook you up . i went to the bota place today and look at at the front reciever hitch on them botas and let me tell you you ain't gonna damage them things or just get me a bolt pattern and send me a picture of kinda what your looking for. oh and send me the price of the cheapest guy and i'll see about beating him. cajunhommie@aol.com i hope it's ok i post like this if not please let me know bczoom.i don't wanna cross anyone i'm just here to help out.

for 600.00 i can desgn you a whole new front bumper with the winch mount .lol but thats comin in a few weeks just wait. it seems botas are gonna be the main things on my list to make things for.

Helping members out is fine Tommy.

Leon,

Sounds to me like you're being fed a lot of mis-information by your dealer.
