I have a 500 kubota that sits alot and will start up fine and when i pull it out of shed and shut it off it wont restart.turns over fine but doesnt fire sometimes and sometimes it will act like it going to start momentarilly then just turns over.if I let it set overnight it will ussually start. checked the fuel filter by removing and layiny on a clean cloth and blowing it out and saw no dirt from it. Im afraid to even take it anywhere thinking it might not start.I take very good care of this unit and did all the 50 hour main. at 47 hours. I use this primarially for deer hunting and running around Arkansas countryside it has 61 hours on it. ive owned it for a year and nine months. any help would be appreciated. im currently in Ill. and my machine is in Ark. so I will have to wait to try any repairs you might suggest.thanks in advance.

Check the fuel tank vent line if it has one spiders like to make webs in them and it will block the vent .if you have the vent on the capp then try taking the fuel cap off and try starting it to see if the cap is clogged or faulty

It's not getting enough fuel seems to be the issue. Could be anything from the tank to (and including the carb).

First thing I would do is get the old gas out of the tank and carb. The ethanol evaporates and leaves a residue that screws up the carb. Try to drop the bowl from the carb if you can and soak it in carb cleaner or use a spray bomb of cleaner. Then put some real gas without ethanol in it for a few tanks. Most boat launches have it available.

If you don't live close to a marina to get ethanol free gas you might find a gas station on this site that carries ethanol free gas. http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp Keep the tank topped off and add some fuel stabilizer to the fuel if you're going to let it sit for a long time.

I'm with muleman and doggman on this. I've pulled the bowls on some carbs before and seen where the fuel had formed a gel from it being so old. It (the fuel) also has a distinct smell when its like that, you won't forget it once you smell it. If your bota has alot of "sittin" time you can't stress enough how much of a difference some fuel stabilizer can make. Save some headaches too. Also, I have seen before that the fuel in the tank will seem to be good, but whats in the carb is not. But like it was stated earlier, best option is to drain it all and start fresh.

If it is a warm engine re-start problem..it could be getting too much choke..I have a JD F525 with a Kawasaki gas engine..that acts similiar...also for a gas engine that will sit for a lengthy time, it is a good idea to turn the gas supply off while the engine is still running and allow the engine to die when it runs out of fuel. Just remember to turn back on and allow to sit a few minuteswhen you restart months down the road. Works well on my Kubota GenSet.

Thanks to all that have responded so far.one of the issues I guess I didnt mention is the rtv 500 is fuel injected so I think that leaves the carb issue out.the fuel is fresh maybe a month old. when it starts it runs fine and you would never know there was a starting issue.the reason I wanted as many suggestions as I could get was so I would be able to try them when I go back to Arkansas in a couple of weeks.thanks to everyone so far but I would love to here anymore suggrstions.

Teel51, do you live in Arkansas? If so, what part of the state? I in the west central part of Arkansas.

The fuel injectoin systems are alot more tolerant when it comes to ethanol. It does eat up carbs though my rhino is fuel injected and most times i do run ethanol gas in it and it sits somtimes for a month or two but it always fires right up.fuel injection sytems dont reall store fuel in a bowl like a carb . After you check the vent lines run some injector xleaner through it and let it run at a medium idol for as long as you can maybe like an hour or more just prop something on the pedal to raise the rpms just above idol or have your kids drive it xonstantly for a hour or so this should clean the lines out really good.

I got the exact same issue!!! I have had mine 2 full years now and just clicked over to 39 hours. It's done same thing about pulling out of my shop cut it off and it will start but run about 3 seconds and sputter out! Most time though if it starts it runs good for hours but then if I stop and cut it off then try to restart same thing happens! I have noticed that when it does do this I do not hear the fuel pump come on when I turn the ignition key. I can try again 30 mins or hour later and it fires right up and runs good! So I am thinking its got be some type of relay or wiring to the fuel pump! I've called my dealer and they said that's first time they heard of that and that they would have to call Kubota tech line and call me back! Well it's been a week now and NO call yet! So is there a relay I could get to easily and replace or do u think it something else! Just do weird how I can go back after a whole and it starts right up and runs good!

Ok I by no means a mechanic so please advise me! I just got done riding my rtv in yard stopping it lots and restarting! Things were going good and I got ridding aggressively and the fans kicked on! I stopped cut off then cut ignition on and sure enough the fuel pump didn't come on! I turned the starter and machine fired up but died in 3 seconds! Just for the heck of it I sprayed a cool type contact cleaner all over the 4 relays by the fuses where the fan blows and one kind of steamed up! I turned ignition on and the fuel pump came on fired up and ran good! Is this a sign that the relays going bad?

If you have access to one of those point and read infrared thermometers that might help you diagnose the problem.

I once had a start solenoid on an old Ford that malfunctioned and would only send voltage to the coil when the starter was engaged. When the engine started and the key was released from the start posisition to the run position the engine would die. It defied logic...

Ok guys I took it back to dealer! The service guy at dealership talked to the Kubota whiz rep and told him to replace the fuel pump! He said they have had several this has happen to! Thankfully they replaced it under warranty since just 39 hours on it! I got my first service done while it was there! $252! Think I ready to go to a ranger or rhino! I am heading to my hinting club tomorrow to see if it's fixed! Wish me luck!

I took mine to kubota dealer in Harrison, Arkansas and they replaced fuel pump and it starts now but I haven't had a chance to use it.must say that the dealership was fantastic and the kubota rep was everybit as good as they fixed it under they goodwill policy.great people.this unit had 62 hours and was 21 months old.I was told there are crankcase sensors that can be the problem if they become out of ajustment.

might wanna try the rhino over the ranger sure the ranger will haul more but they tend to be a bit costly on the repairs when they break i have a few buddies that have polaris utv's and they are nice but they do break alot of stuff. i bought an 08 rhino new and got the extended warranty the only problem i did have with it was i broke two engine mounts turned out they was defective from the factory and i had the warranty so it didn't cost anything. one other thing was it happened while under the regular two year warranty and sinse then i have yet to use the extra 5 year warranty on it so i might have pissed away 700.00 bucks for nuthing because it's a tough little machine. it will get you anyplace you wanna go and i mean anyplace. it's real narrow and will weave it's way through the woods like a needle it's light and the 4x4 system on it is great .you have the option of 2 wheel drive 3 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive i rarely use the full 4wheel drive with the front differential locked because it tends to wanna go straight when you lock up all 4 wheels i just changed the bearings on all four wheels for a total cost of 110.00 and thats cheap yamaha wanted 98.00 per tire for the kit. i did install a epi mudders clutch kit for extra power in turning the outlaws in the deep mud and i snorkeled it so deep water wouldn't be an issue right now she can run flat on all 4 wheels through 4 and 1/2 feet of water and if i put air into the front tires it will float the front end and give me an extra 2 to 3 feet of height on the water i can cross. it can haul 400lbs in the bed but that about all i would do .it's a medium working utv and not something meant for really heavy hauling but it does what it's designed for flawlessly and thats to get two guys with 400lbs of thier gear from point a to point be and back. i do miss my old hpx gator when i need a heavy hauler that thing was a beast but i like the rhino better because of the smooth ride and the offraod capabilities.

Thanks for advice! I got couple questions for you! I read on some forums guys say that the ranger rides a little smoother than the rhino, sounds u been around both so have u noticed much difference? My wife has bad back do I really need the smoothest riding! I really not a big trail rider especially compared to u with the snorkel and stuff, lol, my main usage will be hunting but I will be using bed alot hauling lots seed and fertilizer couple times a year. That being said do u think the rhino be ok hauling seed and fertilizer, I heard that lots tail gates break on rhinos. Last question for you, does the rhino seem louder than the ranger? Thank you do much for your opinion! I will have to agree the rhino does look a higher grade of quality than the ranger from what I have seen on the dealer lots!!

the ranger is said to have a smoother ride but after riding both i would say they are the same as for as the tail gates both ranger and rhino do fall short and will break if you sit on the tailgate if i have to haul anything in the bed with the gate down i put a piece of plywood in the bed to even out the weight and help the tailgate and mine is still intack. i will be honest i always wanted to get a ranger but never wanted something that i had to fix or worry about it breaking down. with my back problems i prefer the rhino because of the bucket seats it's more of a relaxed sitting position and the seat sorta contours to the body the ranger has a bench seat that has no upper back support and it makes you sit straight up. the ranger can haul a good load but it will squat alot i'll try to dig up some pics we took of the ranger compared to my johndeere hpx .we loaded 1000 +lbs of car batteries in both of them and drove around the hpx trucked on like the bed was empty but the ranger had some issues with the steering because the front tires was lifted a bit and turning because a problem. the other problems with polaris is their engines they are just not reliable they are a hit and miss sorta thing. i would take a ride to both dealers and look at the frames and how they are made the rhino is a bit more stronger and ranger has a thinner frame material i have welded up a few cracks on the frames of razors and rangers but have yet to fix a frame on a rhino. yamaha has been around along time and they put out a good product if your buying new get a 700 if your buying used stay away from the 660 it had issues if you can find a used 450 in good condition go with that it has a lower gear ration and will pull just as good as the 700. i think they stopped making the 450's too right after the 700's replaced the 660's.as for hauling seed and stuff i don't know how much a sack weighs so i can't say how much you will be able to haul but the rhino will haul 400lbs easy and more if needed the bed isn't the biggest thing but i rather something that i can get around in tight areas with rather that a wide utv that i run into every tree of post with trying to get around. the top speed on my 700 is 42mph the 450 has a top speed of 38mph in low gear it will go around 18 mph. i have pulled some heavy loads with my 700 and have never had any belt issues i changed the stock belt when i installed the clutch kit and still have the original stock belt. one of the good things about belt drive is as the belt wears down you loose top speed but gain low end power because the belt rides deeper into the clutch unless you hook onto something and stop the gas your not gonna hurt the belt at all infact you'll snap an axle before you snap a belt. another plus of the rhino is if you get a rhino hey i can make you anything you want for it because i have one lmao.i'll see if i can find the pics of the battery hauling test we done.
