OH MY GOODNESS!

I was somewhat displeased with my RTV1100 due to it's lack of power and being too slow to trail ride. I considered getting rid of it and getting a Polaris Ranger. Boy, am I ever glad I didn't. Basically for two reasons. All three guys I know who have Rangers continue to have nagging problems and all ended up buying a couple thousand dollar extended warranty fearing ownership after being out of warranty. The piss poor welding on my door frame cracked, as I knew it would so I ended up fixing that myself (thus a big strike against Kubota for customer support). The second thing I didn't want to lose was climate control and no bugs.

It's been a few months since I added a turbo to my RTV1100 and, wow, what a difference! It will leave dual black marks taking off on pavement in L or M gear. It doesn't run any faster on top end, but it gets there much quicker and towing and/or hauling doesn't bring the speed down much. It's a joy to drive now and seems to drive more like a gas powered machine than a diesel but has the torque of a diesel. I only have the fuel boost about half way and it doesn't blow out any black smoke except a tiny bit when you goose it from a start. I'm well pleased with the turbo RTV1100.

You didn't tell us you added a turbo to your RTV... did you?

Did you get the info on the new RTV 1800? It has a 32 HP engine with optional turbo. I thought you would have sold me your 1100 so you can get one of the new ones. I'll still buy it if you don't mind being without a RTV until the new ones hit general availability.

BTW, hope you don't mind, but I moved this thread to the RTV section of the forum.

Turbo!!!!!????? Kewl.

About how much does a turbo run for a RTV1100? (if you don't mind)

Oh yeah, I installed it a few months ago after I spoke to a Kubota rep at a dealership and he assured me that the mild boost (5-7 psi) turbo wouldn't hurt the engine at all. I took my time on the install and, IMHO, it looks factory.

I didn't know about the bigger RTV. Haven't heard anything about it. An RTV is too heavy for fast trail riding, but it needed more umph to make it reasonable and capable. I can post pics of the turbo later if you want. I think it cost about $1500 for the complete kit.

Oh, interestingly enough, the RTV1100 is already plumbed from the factory (just plugged off at the block) for oil flow to and from a turbo. I do not know the application this engine is in where it is turbocharged, but I would think it comes from the factory with a turbo in some application. Either that, or Kubota was thinking ahead. The turbo I installed is the same part number as a Kubota turbo in another application.

Dargo,
Do you have the part number of the fitting for the oil return line from the turbo to the crankcase?
I see the plug, it is between the oil sending unit and the crankcase coolant line.
Was the plug hard to remove.
Do it this way you would not have to remove and drill the oil pan as suggested in the installation instructions from SFS.

Nice job Brent! I'm glad the door thing is fixed it's a shame Kubota couldn't do more for you there.

BTW, I don't recall a turbo application for the RTV1100 engine. It's probably a scaled down version of a bigger engine that has a turbo. I think you have to get into the 30+ or 40+ hp range for turbo engines.

Hey Dargo, I'm interested to know if you're still happy with the Turbo install or did problems show up later on? And pictures would be awesome if you can spare the time. Thanks!

Dargo has some major medical issues with his daughter going on right now. I don't know how often he checks this board right now either. It may be a while till he responds.

something that you might wanna consider when adding the turbo is a better air intake with less restrictions. on deisel trucks it's a recomended thing to change the air intake to get more out of the turbo.maybe look into the k&n filters. also has anyone ever tried installing a bigger fuel pump ? with deisel engines the more fuel you pump the more pep you get . it might be something to look into. a turbo with a new air filter system and a bit more fuel these rtv's just might be some down right killer machines.with all three installed you might get another 10hp out of that engine maybe a bit more.
