Portable winch

someone here please educate me on "portable" winches. I do not want to attach one permanently to my front bumper area because I have a corn feeder I use that fits into my front receiver on my 1100. I have never messed with winches much at all - is there one made that I can carry in my bed and if I get in a bind pull it out, take my feeder off, and attach it easily to the receiver hitch or bumper?

someone here please educate me on "portable" winches.

They have the type that goes on :
Some goes over the hitch ball
Some has reciever hitch, which is great !!!!
Some has the two hook type which one has a cable and pulls ....

There are many out there. You will have no problem .

Now, my question is :
What are you doing with corn feeder on front of RTV.
Feeding deer so close you just open up door and hit him in the head with
hammer ?

you are right - I lure them into the cab and then haul butt.

Actually I hunt in south texas - we have senderos cut through the brush that can be a mile long - we run our buggys down the sendero and feed corn out of a tailgate feeder and then park the buggy - I have a rack/frame built over my cab and then I place a lightweight tripod seat on top of the cab to hunt out of. The brush is so thick that is the only way to hunt south texas - very few openings or trees - just mesquite brush for miles. But huge deer - I shot this 201 inch deer couple of years ago - all low fence

Nice set up you have there. :thumb:

Nice deer. Do you manage does during the summer? I just started taking some does out last week.

no our season is Oct-Jan - we protein feed and only kill bucks age 6 or older - we take some doe and culls but mostly manage for trophies -

I know this is not a hunting forum but thought you guys would like to see some more deer off of our ranch in Texas -

Are the fawns still nursing the does in your area this time of the year ?:argue:

Yes, they are still nursing. I spoke to a wildlife biologist who told me I might loose a few fawns but most would survive. Last season my camera surveys showed a 20-1 doe to buck ratio. The deer were devastating my bean crop so I got a permit take deer until sept 20. So I am managing my does while protecting my investment .

got a permit take deer until sept 20.

Will your state let you pick them up ?

I know years ago, here in Louisiana. We could get permits, but the state said
after the kill. You have to let them just lay there and rot. It was such a waste.

Now, when we thin out the does. We give to the needy, childeren homes, elderly homes, churches , etc ....
It's a win / win situation.
But it's later on in the year in the end of October when we start .

And I agree with you. They will total out a good crop !!!:agree:

I think it used to be like that in tennessee . Now the
Permit states that animals can be given to any worthy recipient. I have been able to give most of them away.

Hi tlk~~I just noticed your request for portable winch info. I made one up a few months ago and tried to post photo's without success, so bczoom was kind enough to post them for me. He posted them on 10/16/13 so you can take a look. It was a really easy project using and old winch mount and a few other parts laying around. The winch was also low cost and is still working great. Winch work's front or back in the 2" recievers with 175 amp plugs (see photo) and a #4 welding cable set I keep in the tool box. Total cost for everything except the #4 wire was about $200 as I recall~~~~KOBE

those are some nice deer pics .as for the portable winchs I have one myself and that thing pulls pretty goodthe only down side is it's not waterproof but they will get you out of a bind by moving logs out of your way .
