RTV Starter ?

Click * Click * Click ~~~~ START~~~~~~~~~~~~ or

CLICK * CLICK * CLICK ~~~~ PECK STARTERVERY LIGHTLY, THEN IT WILL START !!!!!

THERE IS NO REASON FOR THIS, SOUNDS LIKE A SILINOID !!!!! Talked it over with some dealers, and they said they have been hearing much about this ~~~~

How's yours doing ?

Re: RTV Starter ?

Been cold here in the last week. Have had to use the glo plug to the count of 5 and then goes just fine. Havent ever really studied the starter circuit. Are you sure you have a good connection at the key down to the solinoid?

Good Luck........Dennis

Re: RTV Starter ?

Hi Two Guns, You are right it does sound like it. Once, we had such a situation on a tractor and it was abad 'noid. On a diesel welder the ground from the battery was bad and this happened. On one truck, you could tap on the 'noid and it would crank.I will look at my RTVtomorrow and see what I can about it. I will say this. On the otherold '94 Ford ... the starter had a loose wire and it was tight enough to appear tight but you could wiggle it ...that was it... drove me crazy I had that nut on the top snug feeling but could'nt see it well and didn't want to twist it off so I had quit tightening. Undone the battery so I didn't have to worry about any shortingout and carefully snugged it up ... no more problems with that puppy...Happy hunting tomorrow and if I find anything out I will post it, Bordercollie

Re: RTV Starter ?

Was about five miles back in the swamps, it was already black dark..... Not a good time for this to happen, for when the sun goes down in these swamps, the food chain goes in reverve, the whole world turns around. And you will never see it coming !!!!!

Finally, after doing the " click " , " click" , " click" thing for about two or three minutes, going into a small panic and aggrivated. I unloaded the two deer, gunny sacks, and other woody things, lifted the bed and " pecked" the starter lightly with my pocket knife ~~~~~~~~ BOOM, it started !!!!

After returning to the barn, I checked and cleaned the battery terminals, they were perfectly good. I do need to check the connections. But I will say this, once you " pocket knife peck" the starter, it's good for about five hunting trips, and it will start that damn clicking again.....

Talked it over with a few dealer mechanics, they stated that this has been a problem before with many units. Sooooooooooo~

When I get time, going to remove and bring it to a man locally, he goes threw and reworks the starter. Cost he stated will be about 35.00 - 40.00 .............. being the cost of it being fixed, think it's better than being eat by some unkown bear or swamp panther back in the swamps one night, knowing they can smell the blood hanging in the back of the RTV from miles away !!!

Get a chance, checkin' thestarter terminalconnections and make sure all of them is properly clean and making good, tight contact ~~~

Re: RTV Starter ?

starters are very easy to rebuild it sounds like you got some gunk in your's. most times it's just the brushs that are bad and mud in them.if shipping wasn't so high i would say just send it to me and you buy the parts and i could rebuild it for you for free.

Re: RTV Starter ?

Hello Two Guns. What a coincidence.....I just came back into the house to check the site and see what I can find about the starter.....and here you are with the same problem. The last 3-4 weeks I have been experiencing the same thing. Had to click, and click many times until it would turn over. Today I just clicked 20 times......nothing. So thanks to your great advice I am going to lift the box (God help me on that one) and see if I can peck the starter. Hopefully she will then go. The machine is under warranty until Dec. 10 so I am brining her back in on Monday. I will let you know what they do to remedy the situation.

Tommy,

Your a very kind person !!!!!

From talking to several mechanics at some of the Kubota dealerships, they said something to thearea that it was the material that some were made of , but not all, just a certain lot, that done this..... It was some kind of " film", not really corrosion, that was accumilating on some of the internal parts..... Naturally, mine is OUT of warranty, BUT, have a close friend that owns a alternator / starter shop that he said he have fixed MANY of these starters for the KUBOTA RTVS.... he says it's a piece of cake !!!! So now, it just a matter of finding time from my hunting to take it off ...... If I " PECK" it, it does fine for a little while, and when it " clicks" again, I just peck, and good to go for a few more days ~~~~ Strange but true ~~~~

But anyway, thanks for the offerTommy ~~~~ Your day is coming, your RTV will be showing up before you know it ~~~~

P.S.

By the way, I would like to keep my name as " Two Guns " ,,,,,, for some reason, I have the feeling somebody was thinking about calling mea " PECKER " ~~~~~~~~

Re: RTV Starter ?

You are are exacty right .... Talking about spooky ~~~~Folks don't have a clue what goes on in the black swamps at night !!!! Some things are better left unsaid !!!! Remember, this is Louisiana, anything can and will happen !!!! Rather keep the skin on my back ~~~~

Re: RTV Starter ?

I am glad you have a source for the repair nearby.Too bad Tommy doesn't have a mobile shop. {any ideas on that Rusty Anvil?} Definitely stay cautious in the swamps.. Over in the Ashley county AR swamps there is even a ghost... It is a headless railroad guy that carries one of the old red lanterns... swamp gas the smarties say.....still creepy. anyway don't watch that old La. movie called "Frogs" until you get it fixed. Good luck and I hope he fixes itASAP. Bordercollie

Daughter of a Voodoo witch I believe !!!! Should of seen it coming !!!!!

And them stories about mean, evil, witchcraft women in the old wooden shotgun houses in the swamps..... they are TRUE !!!!And watch out for 'dem crows on the porches, they squall when one try a slippin' around and warn the ones on the inside !!!!! They will throw a heck of a curse on a feller, learn to stay away !!!!!

Re: RTV Starter ?

talk about ghost !! whem you walk through the swamps down here you can be sweating bucjshot because of the humidity but then you'll come across an area that is"no lie" about 10/15 degrees cooler.and the areas can be as large as a house you can walk for 40/50 feet and still be in the cold section.the funny part is if you take a camera and snap pictures you will see a bunch of them dots in the picture but if you take a picture in the warm "normal temp" areas you won't get any dots in the picture. it's nice to setup a tent in the cool areas in summer time becase it's like almost havin a/c . not to mention the dogs start acting funny in them areas too.

Re: RTV Starter ?

My starter would not do anything except click...click...click. I noticed it was -12 degrees celcius. I don't know what that metric shit means even though I have lived here 41 years. I do know it was very cold and well below freezing. So I drove the KUBOTA down to Toronto, Ontario today to have the thing looked at by the dealer (it's under warranty). By the time I got to the dealer this morning it was +4 degrees celcius (well above freezing). I turned the key to let him hear the clicking and low and behold she started. Now I am really thinking. So, I have been going through water.....deep water...as in water running across the floorboards and having to lift your feet to avoid getting wet. I am starting to think the starter or silinoid got water into it, it froze and that temporarily seized things. When it thawed out she started. Any views on this????

Re: RTV Starter ?

when my starter went out on my hpx she would click!click! alot and somedays she would spin the engine so fast you would swear she was a new starter til one day i didn't even get a click sound.from what you guys are saying it could be the starter and if you went in any kinda water or mud it will gunk them up.
