RTV1100 ruff running

I did a complete PM on the RTV1100. The outlet line from the fuel filter seemed a little short when I put it back together. It did not want to start so I moved the fuel filter some and re-adjusted the clamps thinking it was sucking air. After it started it sounded OK. When you are driving it will start missing and lose power. It may die or start running smooth in a few seconds. I replaced the fuel filter hose with a longer piece and installed new clamps. This helped out but in that it is doing it less often. I have cleaned the air filter, spark arrester, and the fuel cap vent. I got the fuel about a month ago and use it in other equipment with no problems. Does anyone know of anything else I can look at for a fix.
Thanks for any help Aarkie

If it started right after the PM ...... I would say it's air in the line somehow. Your hose you replaced, did you blow threw it or make sure there were clear inside. Spiders and other bugs love hoses.
Fuel filter, I know you replaced it, correct !!!!
My guess, it's air in line.

Another note: Sitting still, with machine out of gear and parking brake on. Start engine, let machine warm up the best you can. And mash the pedal to the floor and hold it there. It will not hurt it, it's a diesel.
Hold it down for about 20 seconds. See how it acts. If it continues still acts up. Change ALL the fuel out.

Fuel is not as good as it used to be. And on another note. If your tank does NOT stay completely full. Condensation builds up bad this time of the year where we have cool nights and hotter days. Water will cause it to act just like you stated !!!! Change fuel .....

This is not a guaranteed fix, but it's my opinon, and it's a start !!!!

If the buggy runs then the air induced from servicing should purge itself out. If you replaced any line sections, keep in mind that the line has to match the fitting size it's going on to. (No matter how tight you clamp it, if its mismatched it can suck air.)
Diesels at idle require a lot less fuel and will appear OK until a load it put onto them.(Driving rig)
To confirm if it is air in the fuel, pull the return line off at the tank, put it in a container and keep the hose below the fuel level and watch for air bubbles. The only other thing that comes to mind would be a rag or paper towel sucked into air intake would cause similar symptoms. (Starving for air)
Hope this helps.

Not being a wise ass but did you get a diesel filter and is it installed with the arrow going toward the engine. A filter in backwards or a gas filter will cause this also.

Two Guns, I got new line from the parts store and cut it to my length. I didn't blow it out but didn't see any signs of anything in it. I've filed it up and ran about a tank full since it started acting up. I have a fuel tank and use a water filter on the outlet. I'll take a sample and make sure no water is in the filter.
Dennis, I cleaned the spark arrestor during the PM.
Realtreertv, I used 5/16 ID hose which should be the correct size. I'll look for the return air line so I can check for air. I cleaned the air filter but will check it again, I still need to do the high rise intake.
It will be a couple of days before I can work on it since I have hay on the ground and need to start bailing tomorrow and work on some fence before the next rain. That is when I will get to work on it. Thanks for the info.

IF you have run a tank of fuel threw this machine since it started acting up, I would say any air that was there should have been pushed out

This has got me ....

You bail hay, I will be thinking >>>>>

I replaced the original fuel filter with a better filter kit from Kubota, much like the ones they use on small tractors, and in doing so had a problem.

RTV1100 2009 would run and then stop with a bit of a shudder. With some coxing would start and go some more then repeat.

Problem: new fuel line was kinking over and blocking the fuel flow. Mine was just between the tank outlet and the filter.

Fix: put a 90 degree fitting in the area to remove the bend needed to get the fuel line to line up.

When I had initially installed the kit the line looked okay, but it was bending enough after being installed to pinch itself off.

Get underneath and check for fuel line kinks.

Hope this helps.

Spudhauler, I know what you mean by a kink in the hose. I cut it shorter than I was planning to because it would cause a kink. If it does it would be like you said looked good at the time. The 90 does sound good since it is in a bad spot. I may look at the filter kit at a later date.

Also make sure that the new fuel hose isn't collapsing under use and check the cap to make sure the vent is open on the cap. Good Luck, bordercollie

I wanted to let everyone know that I found the problem with my RTV. Thanks for all of the help. Several answers were close to what was wrong but did not quite pinpoint the problem but helped in solving it. When I started looking for the problem I pulled the hose at the engine and tried to drain the diesel from the tank. It had a small stream, smaller then a pencil lead. Thinking the new filter was bad I pulled the filter inlet line and still a small stream. I got the air hose and blew backwards in the line and got a good flow. I drained the tank and then siphoned the rest of the fuel from the below the outlet. My hand would not fit into the fill so I got the wife to reach in and cleaned the rest of the tank. I left the upper hose disconnected and filled the tank and verified the filter filled with diesel. Reconnected the upper hose and started it up. It died once from the air in the line but restarted easy. I ran it hard for a couple of miles to test it with no problems. It seemed a little stronger than it was before it started acting up. There is not a screen in the tank, just a barbed fitting sticking out. The next time you change the filter you may want to think about draining the tank, blowing the line out, and cleaning the tank.

So your saying there was something, ( trash ) stopping the fuel to go into the line from the tank, correct ? So the answer is trash in tank not letting fuel even get to the filter ?

That's right Two Guns their was some kind of trash from the tank had the flow down to almost nothing. It could have been a slow buildup over time. I did not get anything big out of the tank just a lot of small sand size stuff. I thank its a 2008 that I got used a couple of years ago. My fuel is filtered from the storage tank but something could have fell in when I was filling it up sometime or just a slow buildup over time. Hindsight some of the hills I could climb in second when I got it I had been needing to go to low to get up even before the PM. I just glad it is running good again no matter where the trash came from. Thanks for the help everyone.

And I can speak for all of us here, we are happy you got 'er up and going.

Suggestion:

There is a item on the market call " MR. FUNNEL "..... use it !!!!

http://www.mrfunnel.com/Mr._Funnel/Home.html

EVERY drop of fuel that goes into my RTV, and EVERYTHING else but my cars. Goes threw the Mr. Funnel. JEEP ,Work Trucks, tractors, mowers, generators, welding machines, the list goes on. Mr. Funnel is there.

You would be surprised what that contraption picks up and stops from
going into your systems. Saves me much trouble and down time.
