The Other White Meat

Here is the Buck buster plot taken about a month ago. Much higher now. I have another plot about the same size by my grandsons stand but has had standing water over it for a couple of days. Hopefully it will do ok.

Jamie, I wanted to let you know that your stand pics were making me look bad. Here is my east Texas redneck stand built 100% otut of scrap. It was still under "development" then but does look a little better now that I closed it in a little more and gave it a paint job.

Here is the oat patch looking the other way from the buck buster patch. It was also taken over a month ago. The wildlife refuge starts about 50 yards past the clearing.

Nothing wrong with that stand.I would hunt in it anyday....When I got older, One of the most important things I figured out about a stand was the " chair " .... Butt sitting has to be atit'sbest .... Butt starts getting knum, deer walks out, barrel will start shaking . Got to be in comfort, man shoots better when his ass is not hurting from a bad hunting chair. Heck, I still have nightmares about me hunting years ago, sitting on a old, 5 gallon metal Treflan bucket.

Your Buck Buster plot looks really good >>>>

Need to get you a wooden post, but in the middle of the plot.Nail acan, about the size of a coffee can , or , get a plastic container fromWal-mart, screw the lid on the post, cut the bottom of the plastic jar out, fill it full of peanut butter. Watch the deer go crazy over it. OR, justsmear some on the post, once they get a taste, they will show up every day for that snack !!!

Got the Cuddeback in late yesterday so we set it up after dark. Looks like I need to re-aim it a little higher. At least we got pictures. Most were of what looks like the same black hog checking out the corn avery couple of hours.

Great picture Uncle Doug,

All of our camerasare usally set at 42 inches high, and pointed pretty much straight out. That will pick up everything that you want to eat !!!! Seriously, that covershogs, deer, bobcats, etc ...,,, just about everything .

The cameras eye picks up more than you would imagine.

( Now that is a nice " pit " size hog. Talking about good eating !!! )

Just helped our police chief set some out on hishome property. He was shocked, there are monster bucks there he never even knew about. He is excited for sure now, knowing what is out there !!!!

Usually, every few days when we change out the memory cards, weALWAYSput a little rice bran / rice or kernel corn out all the way up to the camera, justso we can count the eyelashes on 'em >>>>>

You will have a blast out of them cameras >>>>

We set out at this stand this evening. This is the one at the back of my place. About time everything gets real quiet, 45 minutes or so before sunset, I hear two 4-wheelers heading down the pipeline just across the fence on the Wildlife Refuge side of the fence. This has been off limits for the past 3 years since the refuge started up. Sometimes I see pipeline workers but these were not.

As I was sitting there fuming I remembered I had the digital camera in the RTV. I climb down, get the camera and walk over to my fence line (which is all grown up) just in time to see these 2 yahoo's heading back my way. I get a shot of one with his kerr dog but miss the other. I waited a few minutes and remember this digitial will also get short 1 minutes videos. As luck will have it here they come again. Not real clear but you can see both and the dog. I did not see any guns on the 4 wheelers but I did not want to be seen so I just stayed in the bushes.

Debaiting on weather on not to call the Game Warden. Last year after calling all my stuff got trashed. He said without pictures its my word against theirs. May call anyway.

Hell yes !!!!

Call the Game Warden !!!!Don'tstop now, break'em from that crap.

They better thank theirlucky stars they are there and not here. That is one thing I take seriously !!!! Take care of it now before it gets to deep in your hunting season. And they will never know where the cameras are. I've even got signs on the place warning them of Camera / Video Surveillance . Trust me, it works. I've even went to pouchers housesup in thenight, and bang on the doors, get them out and have a come to Jesus talking. I don't play.

I'm not telling you to do what I do, but in your case, yes, get the law enforcement involved. Spank their ass !!!!

Yep,

There is not much out inthe woods that don't like that peanut butter. I even take a couple ofbites when feeding it out there. When buying the peanut butter, don't have to buy the best, or the most expensive on the shelf.Deeris not picky about their snacks. And, have you tried the Frito Corn Chip thing yet. It will get them everytime. Don't take much, just sprinkle a few corn chips where you want to blast your deer, you know the rest of the story. Hogs love them Fritos' also.Remember, most of these animals arecreatures of habit. I feed frito's for five days in arowon a stand, on the six day, doing the same thing. Before I could put the bag up ( wild boar must of been waiting in the bushes ), me and a 425 lb boar was having a show down, thankGod for the .45, yep, it got hairythere for a few minutes. He thought I was in his Frito' Corn Chip patch. When I turned around, there he was a coming, just that quick.

You can go cheaper on any snacks for the woods. Best peanut butter was giving to me by a elderly lady who I give deer meat to. She didn't eat peanut butter, and she had some commodity cans of it, that was the strongest smelling, best tasting, and the oilyest peanut butter I've ever seen. Wish I could get some more somewhere, I would buy every can. Deer would come from all over when that stuff was steaked out, heck, I could even smell the strong stuff if the wind was right, and my stand was a fair piece from the jar on the tree !!!!!

Yea, it was the cheapest peanut butter they had. Donna asked if I needed creamy or chunky. I told her what ever was cheapest. Of course I had it all over my fingers by the time I got it on there. I was licking it off my fingers while Donna was saying to save some for the deer.

I did move my camera once again futher back along their pig trail. Just for this week as I am working late every night and will not be around to check on things. I did loop a chain around the tree and secure it with a lock. It is out of site of the main 4 wheeler trail and food plot but right on the narrow pig trail. It will prevent a snatch and run anyway, they would need a chainsaw or bolt cutter. Might not get any photos of any deer there but at least my camera will still be there when I check on it on Saturday.

The #1 neighood punk is no more as of this past year as he liked his drugs a little too much. Cain't say anyone misses him other than none of my stuff has been messed with this year. I have seen no sign of other 4 wheels either. While tilling the food plot awhile back a very young kid on a 4 wheeler showed up. I kind of put a scare in him I guess when I told him we would be hunting back there and would hate for someone to get shot.

Jamie, How did you include your name on one of the photos? It must be a different version.

Two Guns You keep getting me in trouble - I mentioned to some of my buddies that this guy down south had made a neat deer stand and has a great way of attracting deer with "chips and peanut butter". They thought I said beer and chips and they all showed up today for beer and chips! So now i'm out of beer and chips and they had a good time looking at the deer stand and even went to the web site for steel. They were going to go to the welfare office and see if they could get some peanut butter (that was the beer talking). I did feed them some phesant that I shot yesterday and that kind of soberred them up. All they said was to tell you to keep sending info on deer hunting. Thanks Jerry

Have you told your hunting buddies about the Rice Bran, and how well it draws 'em in. There is ricebran in a feeder just to theright of them deer you see. Our fawn population is really high this year !!!!

And yes, that is the newest Hilton in the background.

.... two guns

Haven't told them about rice bran, but they have ordered some cameras. One of the guys shot a big buck that they feel will make the record book in SD. They were in a blind (sleeping I think) when they happened to get off an arrow - they trailed the deer for about a half mile before they found it. I will get a picture and post if it does make the book. Jerry

See the " Y " sticks in front of thatyoung buck, that is peanut butter smeared on them. He is coming to get him a nice snack.... ( click on picture to enlarge )

Rice bran is like powder, when the deer eat it off the ground, looks like they been sniffing white powder, it will be all over there nose .

Post it anyway. Lovethem deer pictures ....

I have just as much fun taking pictures of smaller bucks and fawns, as I do the monsters that is in the swamps .

Wish I could find the picture of the coon jumping ona does head, the deer got to close to the coon, and the fight was on. The doe couldn't throw the coon off, cut that'ole doe up good to . She was flipping and flopping . Ithought I would die laughing . You will be surprised what goes on in the woods after dark. It is a wholedifferent world >>>>

When I lived in Montana, I often trekked in the mountains by myself or with others and lived in a sleeping bag on the ground. We planned our trips so that we could fish for our meals and carried what they call trail mix today. We also carried mostly 357 mags for protection that we had to hide from the fed park rangers that we encountered. I really enjoyed the after hour activities that we could hear and sometmes see. I also enjoyed having a newbie with us - they were usually to scared to sleep - but they always thanked us for allowing them to come along. I hope that somday my grand kids can get to do that!!!!! Jerry

Jerry,

Sounds like you have some great memories >>> Like I tell mychildren,

Only thing that last forever, is a rock !!!!

Make the best of life, consider then has good times, for good times don't last forever.

Looks like this spot for the trail camera will work out ok for the week. The hogs showed up just after dark coming right up the trail and hung around for about an hour. I forgot to bring any corn with me when I moved the camera. I ended up with about 10 pics over an hours time with anywhere from 1 to 4 hogs rooting around. I tossed out about 5lbs of corn tonight so they should hand around a little longer tonight.
