yea you got that right I had a warn winch for over 6 years I took it apart every year during the winter when we don't ride much. take all the gears out and clean them and repack it with grease it lasted along time til my buddy with another rhino tried to pull me out.i hooked the winch cable to him and I got back in my rhino to work the winch plus give it a little peddle to help. I looked up and they had about 8 feet of slaxk in the cable and my buddy floored his rhino before I could stop him he stripped out one of the main gears in it so I retired it to my box of winch parts I ended up getting a travelers winch from tractor supply for 179.00 it's a 4500 lbs winch and for the price I figured I would give it a try .so far it done yanked me out of some big holes .the last hole I got stuck in I was in the middle of a pondi ran all the cable out and even a 20 foot strap but I was 4 feet short from reaching the tree so my son parked hix grizzly in between me and the tree .I hooked on to the back of his grizzly and then hooked the strap to the front and around a treethe tree was a good 5 maybe 6 inchs in diameter and I dragged him to me and also pulled the tree down too.ended up finding a bigger tree and I got out but the winch never even sounded like it was workin hard.if anyone is looking for a winch I recommend the traveler winch at tractor supply .also if any of you have a winch that doesn't work and you want me to look at it just ship it to me and i'll tell you what parts to buy and i'll repair it for free.
