No worries from me about the bear. We tagged one in the den at the bottom of my powerline a few years back and they have been up here since before I bought this farm. They don't bother too much but honey has a strong odor for them to smell. I have seen them get lit up by the fencer and watched the steers run them off as well. I would get with the DEC guys and set a trap for the bear if he became a nuisance or destroyed my hives.

Down here, some friends of mine had a problem with a bear being a nuisance and it destroyed his hive. The State paid for his hive (to the tune of somewhere around $500) but had no interest in doing anything with the bear. Ass holes. BTW, they only pay for your hive once. If the bear does it again, it's not their problem.
Good pic xtrooper!!!!!! Do they run from you when they see you? I thought I saw one in our woods but didn't. I wondered if I saw one if he would run with all the noise the RTV makes. Deer would not run from my ATV, they would just stand and gawk at me. I have not run into any deer with the RTV this year, it is noisier so maybe they are long gone by the time I get there.I hauled 800 pounds of quick crete to one of my mudholes in my trail today. I thought it would absorb more water than it did, but I drove over it yesterday and overall the mud hole is more firm even if there is still a couple inches of water standing over the set up quick crete.

Not trying to take over your project idea.
DIP AS MUCH WATER OUT AS YOU CAN OF HOLE. Hole needs no water
in it to start.
But if you would get you
some sacks of portland cement. Mix with dirt in buckets, 50-60% dirt
other in portland. Fill hole up as much as you can. THEN, sprinkle water
on it to set up cement. Stay off of the hole for a few days .
Your hole should be patched up pretty good forever.
That is what we do down here. Works great !!!

I have had the same experience as Two Guns. I think maybe because the RTV's diesel sounds a lot like a tractor here ? They just look and shake their tails.
That's what I attribute it to. Around here, the deer could care less about tractors since they see and hear them all the time and they're harmless. I figure they consider the RTV the same.
I also don't think deer can see humans that well in or on a machine. Can't quite make us out. I can drive near them with no problem but as soon as I get out of the RTV (or off the tractor), they then see HUMAN and run off.

I have only seen bear while out walking and from the house. Now wait, not that I think about it about 2 years ago I did take a "fun drive" with my wife in the RTV across a hayfield. A few feet into the hayfield we saw a buck under and Oak tree. Suddenly the buck took off and a bear climbed down from the Oak. He was way up at the top of the tree eating the acorns. He climbed down and low crawled into the high grass, very cool.

Note: I contacted the Warden to let him know another bear was in the neighborhood, he said they are making some headway in the investigation. Fingers crossed.
While I have you guys on here, the bears have been rolling on his back on several of my small (5 feet) pine trees. They have trashed the trees. I just sprayed some liquid fence on the trees. I know that is made for deer and rabbits. After I sprayed all the trees I looked at my wife and told her "hey, if it repels deer and rabbits, maybe it attracts bear!!!!!!!!?????????. I really hope not!

Just last month there was one found close to the middle of town across the river in WV. How the heck he got there no one knows. The authorities ended up killing it and my oh my did the residents complain.

Good job Game Wardens indeed! We have a black bear sow that has her den on our property, about 850 feet from our front door. We never put trash where it would attract her and she never bothers the donkeys, llamas and alpacas, heck even the dogs and her ignore each other. She takes more than her share of our blue berries but that's just fine by us. She never comes close to the house or barn and I'd be some upset if some punk trespassed and ended her. She's a much better neighbor than many others we've had!

Pulled some scrub trees out of the flower beds and hauled them off with the RTV. Then took a ride to check out bait hives. One seems to have a fair amount of bees going in and out of it. Loaded up the weedeater and mowed around the power poles as the neighbor is supposed to be cutting my hay later today. Cleaned up a bunch of wood splitter scraps and loaded them in the bota to take to the kettle.Too dang hot to boil frames right now but need a bunch of them real soon to add to our hives.

Wow, what a bear Muleman!
For the past few weekends in between farm related work, I have performed the 400 hour service on the RTV. Whoooo, that Kubota oil and filters are expensive and it sure take a lot of oil for such a small machine.
Today, the youngest boy and I changed the front axle housing fluid and the hydraulic lift fluid. Not satisfied with draining the hydraulic lift reservoir on flat ground, I first put the front end on ramps to get more oil drained. Still not satisfied, I got the ole tall stick jack out and carefully raise the frontend about 4 feet off the floor. All went well, but I don't recommend this approach. One slip of the jack could hurt something or somebody. Lifting the frontend further sure drained more oil.
Now, one last task to accomplish is draining and flushing the coolant system and recharging with Baldwins coolant treatment (thanks TwoGuns), coolant and some distilled water. Received the Baldwins today via the brown van. This task will probably occur on July 4th.
