New RTV for me??

Muleman, Shifting is not perfect but much, much better. They still have the decal on the dash about how to turn the wheel. There is a slight hesitation on backing up but forward is not at all sluggish. I did cut off a galloping cow yesterday. She jumped the fence but still I got ahead of her . 0 to 27 in about half the time. I also miss the jake brake sound when slowing down- oh welll :) bordercollie

Get that high rise on that " 11 " , and she will sound like the other.

Unless they
have taken the engine brake away. They didn't, did they ?

I haven't heard it yet- I'm afraid maybe so, but I will keep listening for it. bordercollie

Congratulations on your new 900! It's a terrific looking machine and I'm confident it will give you many years of solid service.

Are the mudflaps you added Kubota equipment, or are they aftermarket items? I may want to add a set to my 900.

I'll be interested to see whether Peanut produces an expanded-metal screen for some of the vulnerable spots on the bottoms of our machines. He could probably fabricate a good fuel tank protector, also.

At Peanut's suggestion, I removed the spark arrester from my machine, then cut off the arrester and re-installed the tailpipe. The resulting power gain is so great that I'm replacing the speedo with a Mach-meter.

Enjoy your new 900. Many, many thanks for your informative posts and pix.

Heatwave,Thank you. I am pleased with it's performance. The mud flaps are $29 from Kubota. I got them on Two Guns direction are they are simple but great. The dealer gave them to me with my new machine. They were easy to install: The kit included a 2 thin rubber flaps, bolts, and 2 metal mounting straps about an inch+ wide. The piece of metal extends just past the fender well of the floorboard with the flap being mounted to the end of the fender with a washer and bolt. I will try to post a picture of that tonight. It is so dry here as you know being also from MS that I have only tried them out on an occasional cow pile. :) bordercollie

Bordercollie, the more you drive your 2011 the more you're going to like the new transmission set up. You shouldn't have to take your foot out of it for more pulling power when you get in a high load situation - like the older version. The engine/trans braking action is still there but it's tamer.

I agree that the shifting still isn't perfect but it's a lot better. I just forget to step on the brake sometimes when shifting gears. But with straight cut gears it's always going to happen. And I'm not wild about the bigger back rest since it moves you an inch or two closer towards the dash - not a big deal but I now will hit the key once in a while with my knee when I'm twisted around looking while backing up. I never had a complaint about the old seats.

As I get older I find I don't enjoy (or have the time) fixing things as much as I used to do - so enjoy the low maintenance, too.

As we all know, Kubota doesn't discount much at all. But they will give financing deals and do trade in deals. You took the finance deal and I took the trade in deal. My dealer gave me $7K for my 2005 with much lower hours than yours. I did the deal in December so I got 2010 pricing even though I didn't get the unit until April or May. For me that was a no brainer because I think I paid around $10.5K for the 2005. And he delivered it for free plus they'll pick it up for free if I need service. They're over a hundred miles away so that's a big bonus.

Oh yeah - the fuel cap doesn't leak - LOL!
Enjoy!

I am considering getting a new 2011 RTV. Currently, they offer 0 -60 financing and the prices seem competitive. I was offered the WS with dump for a little less than 12 , The "S" model with liner, alloy wheels and speedometer for less than 13 and a GP model for much less- thanks to Two Guns help. I am still concerned about the ujoints on the new models but have over 4000 hrs on my 05 and small things are starting to happen . The front boots are aging and one has cracked. Dealer said around $200 to fix that one side with just the boot. The complete shaft for one side (parts only) is around 500. I can get a boot but have never taken the front end apart before and knowing my luck it will all be stuck tight like the rear was when I replaced those joints and bearings. So anyway I had a JD dealer friend also tell me the Kubota was the best for work as did Two Guns and I value both opinions . I guess reluctantly my future workhorse will stay orange. Also 7% tax has to be paid on it even though it is strictly for farm use. What is the word on the new XT RTV that ya'll been hearing regarding price? Thanks , bordercollie

I have a VERY nice, LOADED 2009 RTV1100 for sale WITH a tandem axle trailer. It only has 246 hours on it and has every option you can get on one. See my other posts.

Why buy new when you can have this one, get the trailer too, and get everything for thousands off the cost of a "new" one?

You can call me at 815 - 973 - 8128

You are right Doggman and you did well with your deal. I will enjoy the low maintenance too.Plus that acceleration is impressive. On the '05 I could hop off to catch a calf just born and I knew the Hoss will come to a stop- not a jerky one but a definite stop- . Now I will have to slow down more or it will roll for a while. Thanks, bordercolle

That stopping should be a quick and easy adjustment of the valve. Might want to talk to your dealer about it. Like you, I have grown to like mine on the hills around here. It is great for picking rocks and gathering wood.

Muleman, If it doesn't settle down for me I will have that done. Thanks.
The '05 is real good at minding me and my foot on the pedal. It would do bout anything I asked. I would have liked to kept it another year but the hour meter keeps ticking on . I would buy this '05 if I didn't have one but like has already been said , little things add up as much as I use it. I know the rear ujoints and bearings are ok because I redone them 200 hrs ago. I have just taken off the front cv joints, cleaned up the innards so I could check them out and there was no slack- I will pack them with new high temp cv grease and replace both outer boots when they come in and that area will be done for a good while. Older machine owners check those boots for age cracks- The assembled side shafts will be $500 each side for just the part so don't let it go un noticed and get trash/water in there. The age cracks on mine are in the valley of the boot. I saw a crack veining on the other side and will replace it too so the new owner won't get it like that. Now it is the drive shaft that I am not completely satisfied with. I did finally replace the joints on my used spare shaft with some aftermarkets- again like the rears, I had to alter the yokes. I put it on and it is much less rattle now but the splined parts of the shafts are worn . So it gonna rattle some.
On the '11, I will keep ya'll informed. There's a lot I gotta do- put my plugs for the sprayers and my control panel on with the led switches , and mounting the tool box. Thanks, Bordercollie

It's just sitting there. Shouldn't you turn the key off? If not, it may be racking up somewhere around 24 hours each day. Things move a bit slower in the South so I'm not sure if it'll do a full 24 clicks but it should be close. ;)

Half the hours on my meter are from the switch being bumped on. Killed the battery one time. Mine really does not have many hours at all on it.

Zoom, now that is funny!! I always take my keys out of the ignition because I have a small pocketknife on my key ring and if I don't have it with me I always need it.Especially cutting open a hay bale or sack of minerals. biggest thing though- I don't want the pups to start it and drive it around.( Remember that the '05 will start in H ) :)
Muleman, I'm a shortie so don't have the key bumping problem nor hardly a head bumping one, When I go from one side to another- Slight bend and I just step across the floor to the other side.:)
Thank you sincerely Peanut , I have about 4034 actual hours but I would have liked to wait until I had 5000 hrs on it to buy another. I could avoid payments that much longer if I had but this machine I got was on a spring invoice and the last "S" at that price - I asked him about the next order but there would be a price increase so I went for it.
I need to get on your waiting list for a set of those stick stoppers too I will pm you net week and get the details. :)
Thanks Everyone, bordercollie

i will get started on a set just for you .i have been thinkin of a new design same coverage just something different.i'll post a picture when they are done and you can choose from them or the regular old setup.glad you got new machine it sounds like you of all people needed a new one .you seem to work it on a daily basis.

Gave the '11 a workout today

Today I wiped 20 acres with the 9'weed wiper -pulling it with the new Honey. It pulled great . The weed wiper isn't heavy but I need to get close to the post without hitting them. The steering was just like the '05- smooth. After that, I moved mineral troughs and back rubbers. Now the '05 will pull the mineral trough just fine in L and if it was about empty in M hardly never in H. Well , the '11 showed me. I hooked to the mineral trough (on skids) and pull it in high from a dead stop. On down the field,I stopped and shifted to M like I should towing stuff. I decided to try a shortcut across a dry creek with a 45 degree down and up. I had to put it in L 4wd to climb pulling the trough. Without the trough my 05 would have climbed in M and possible with a good run in H slowing as the top was neared but still getting there. With the trough no way no how. In the '11- I climbed dry levees with the wiper in H .The '05 would have done it in M with a good start.
It's so hot that I am leaving the pups at home and they aren't complaining a bit. But I enjoyed wiping today with the new machine. The '05 is jacked up in, waiting on her new boots to come in. I repainted the rear screen but am doubtful if I should repaint the several rusty areas that were under the bed liner . A good bit of the paint is left and is that tough grey enamel-which I could never match. The liner will go back in after folks see the bed condition. Thinking maybe just some primer there?
I am off to Arkansas tomorrow to do some work on the house and yard mowing with the old JD332 God blessed me with (for a song) several years ago. Will continue the 05/11 reports when I return Sat evening. Thanks . bordercollie
