NEVER LEAVE KUBOTA

TWO GUNS

..... Doing some hunting in Mississippi. We have some hills and hollers that seems that if you fall off of them, it will be supper time before you hit bottom.
Some are really spooky and dangerous. But don't get me wrong, it is some beautiful land and woods. Lot of this land in almost untouched.

Been using the RTV, but for some reason, I decided to bring the Honda Rubicon.
As you know, you leave your RTV in gear and running, you don't have to worry about it going anywhere. Just jump out and go, return and take off.

With the Rubicon, IT IS NOT THAT WAY . And like to have cost me this machine.

Went and checked all the game cameras. Changing out batteries and memory cards. And also, was going to "Trim" some low lying limbs that would hit you in the RTV or Rubicon going threw. And going in and out during the night, that ain't good ...... . Brought a limb sheer and was doing really good. ...... UNTIL , there was a limb, just before you top a VERY long steep hill.
And the trail going up is just big enough for a vehicle to climb. It was a very long hill..... On both sides, is a drop off and very deep. Nothing would survive at all.
When I stepped off to cut the limb, I grabbed the sheer and took a few steps to the left and reached up to cut. Could not reach exactly where I wanted to cut, and I tried, and I stretch out again and again, and finally, finally got it where I wanted and " I CUT THE DAMN LIMB", HECK, I was out of breath. It Took long enough.
With myself facing AWAY from the machine. LEAVING THE RUBICON RUNNING AND don't really know if it was in gear or not ....... (It's not a KUBOTA RTV, OK ) .
I heard something, but just stood there wondering what that was I heard, some "russelling" sound. Leaves rumbling and sound like something moving. Could not figure where it was coming from. And don't know why I didn't hear the engine just fade away.....
Then, to my horror, I turned around and the damn Rubicon was gone. Now let me say, I just stood there thinking, " hell, there was a full size four-wheeler sitting there a minute ago". THEN IT HIT ME.
I looked down the steep hill, and at the bottom of the hill, WAY DOWN THERE in the middle of the trail, sat my Honda Rubicon, just idleing.
It rolled by itself, down that hill like it had somebody on it guiding it. ( And it did, ........... GOD !!!! ) I will never be that lucky again. I went down the hill, shut down the machine. And bowed my head and prayed !!!!!
Never will I be so lucky again !!!

Came home, told Mrs. Two Guns.
She said, " Well, Lesson learned, IT'S NOT A RTV !!!!! NEVER LEAVE THE KUBOTA "..... and I have to agree >>>>>

Coulda been a LONG walk home cept for HIM.......Glad you see that HE is with you...Perhaps that is why over and over again HE is.........God bless.......Dennis

Wow. You must be living right for sure.
but ...even on my RTV on my hills if I were getting out of it and it were headed downhill I would have to set the emergency break else I'm afraid it would move on down the hill much like the rubicon. Heading up hill, yeah, I'm sure I could leave it set in gear no emergency brake.

you really lucked out on that one buddy. but I sure wish you could have atleast snapped a pic or two of your face .that would have been a funny pic for sure.

i cannot imagine getting out of my 1100 and not setting the brake. It would roll off on a slight incline. Is there something wrong with mine?

Razeface,
Really Don't think there is anything wrong with yours. But does yours have a coast valve ? Or has any adjustment been done on your RTV. What year model of RTV do you have ? That might make a big difference.

I am trying to be careful what I say. Let me make a note on this. I am NOT professional / certified Kubota mechanic. Just giving my opinion.

Noticed on some RTV, they hold better than others, and, also the "engine braking" is more than others. Mine engine braking is quick and will shut you down in a heartbeat. ( the kiss the windshield effect ).
Most older models do. With that being said, I think much of my " holding back" has much to do with my transmission set-up.
Take a look at this thread . There is some great information on this ......

On the back of my property (About 20 degrees or so) mine will almost stop and then continue at about two miles per hour in low range. Yes, I can still move fast enough to catch it, but found it works a lot better to just set the hand brake. The only reason I left it off that time was because the old man is having a hard time climbing over it. Location is not one of Kuboto's better ideas. Glad you saved the Rubicon Two Guns. BTW, your machine was named after one of California's great four wheel drive off road adventures. I did the Rubicon in the late sixties.~~~~~KOBE

Didn't know that..... That is interesting. Jeep also named a "Package" after
Rubicon ... ( mine is a Renagade )
That Honda Rubicon is one strong, tuff vehicle.

Two Guns,

Great to hear the outcome was okay.

Reminded me of these two incidents;

My RTV 1100 would move in L gear when parked in my driveway. I thought like others it was locked only to find it moved several feet each time.

You'll need to find the parking brake on that Honda.:D

Always remember,
Gravity is your ENEMY !!!! ALWAYS !!!!

I personally know of an unoccupied RTV that rolled away and totaled itself EVEN with the engine off, in L AND the parking brake engaged, Never leave em on a even a small slope without brake AND chocks. Prarking brake was found to On but be out of adjustment. Gravity actually hates us and me for sure.

I put a big ole dent in my tailgate leaving mine unattended, engine off. I didn't even have enough sense to put the parking brake on that time. It was only a couple of weeks after we got our first RTV home. It made us sick! I learned that lesson though.

I found out, if you turn engine off. All pressure goes away in tranny, and it will roll.
But leave it running, and in gear, ours will not roll ......

.......... I always leave engine running and in gear. Might not be the right thing. But it will not roll, or should I say, this RTV does not .
